🏢 History of Nowa Huta 🏢
Nowa Huta is the easternmost district of Kraków, Poland. With more than 200,000 inhabitants, it is one of the most populated areas of the city. It is a quarter that was strongly maked by the pro-soviet communism goverment, enforced by Lenin from 1949 to 1956. It was a dark period of „social realism”. The architects were expected to express social ideas, by arousing a feeling of persistence and power with their work. The buildinga are minimalistic and monumental. The plan of the Nowa Huta city was based on axial composition and we can compare it to the hand wiht the fingers open wide. The palm is a Central Squere and the fingers are the steets and the avenues which run radially out of the center.

🌹 Place - Rose Alley/Aleja Róż 🌹
Nowa Huta's Rose Avenue is famous for it's statue of Vladimir Lenin. It was a bronze monument that was pulled down in 1989 by the citizen as a protest. We have chosen this place because the statue marked important and symbolic transition that is inspiring for the project of mirrors.

🔻 object 🔺
Our project is based on contrast. The outside of the pavillion is made of glass-like material that reflects dark and communist architecture of Nowa Huta which is in our opinion very negative and depressive. With that in mind we created very colorfull inside – „the other side of the mirror". This possitive space is designed to be a place of meetings.
