I find it actually so interesting that in your Asylum AU, Ford’s case is probably more well known outside of GF than it is in it (because of the Society of the Blind Eye going crazy wiping people’s memories of the details).

Like, Ford’s case would have been national news. This was mid-national satanic panic, and a super genius recluse who’d been living in the woods studying “anomalies” for six years off a basically limitless grant from an accredited university (even if it was a bad one) goes on to lure his twin brother into the woods and CANNIBALIZE HIM WHILE ALIVE in the name of the ‘one true gos’ Satan, who he represents as the eye of providence—a symbol already tied into a billion conspiracy theories—just wearing a top hat. He has a WHOLE REAL SHRINE with actual thousand year old artifacts and a pure gold statue and thousand of sticky notes. And, you know, all the other stuff in his awful murder hut. And a literally cursed 36 sided die from DDnD. And his previous assistant quit after ‘something bad happened’ that he can’t quite remember that drove him semi-insane. (The fact Ford is Jewish also can’t help.)

He’d triple the force of satanic panic nationally. He’d have laws named after him.

And THEN it turns out that his poor tortured and cannibalized twin brother was a notorious con artist with MULTIPLE fake identities BAN FROM MOST STATES! And the public would know for sure it was Stan committing those crimes and not Ford, because all the fake IDs, the multiple TV ads, and his mug shot from the ‘Have You Seen This Man’ newspaper article we saw from the show ALL SHOW HE HAS 5 FINGERS. Twist of the century!

And that’s not even considering if Bill tells the police they can find more evidence on his creepy underground bunker. Without warning then about the literal death trap built into it by Fiddleford. He could probably get Ford’s supposed body count up a few by leading the cops straight into that thing.

And yet it’s one of the only cases in modern US history to actually successfully use the ‘insanity’ defense. A literal landmark case for multiple reasons.

Between Ford and Stan, this story would have a miniseries made of it. Multiple. The Pines outside of Gravity Falls would literally never know peace. (At least the first generation). But nobody in Gravity Falls would bother Ford.

That’s just such a juicy and interesting contrast.
