“I can’t believe we’re actually doing this.”

You stifle laughter as Haruto almost knocks Junkyu’s lamp over as he puts his shoes on, trying to stay quiet. Junkyu rolls over on his bed and you both freeze, suddenly quiet as mice. He snuffles and murmurs something in his sleep before going still and his breathing evening out. Haruto finishes lacing up his shoes and you keep an eye on Junkyu who just rolls around and keeps mumbling something about Mashiho in his sleep.

“Let’s go!” Haruto whisper-yells at you, and you creep out of the room behind him. The dorm is strangely quiet around you, the lights turned off and nothing but the quiet rumbling of the fans everyone had on cutting through the silence. It’s almost a little eerie since you’re so used to it being full of people and sound all day. You try to avoid the creaky spots on the floor by tiptoeing right behind Haruto, wondering exactly how mad Hyunsuk would be to know you guys were planning to leave the dorm so late. Haruto stops suddenly, and you have to wrap your arms around his waist to catch yourself before you collapse to the floor from the sudden stop.

“What is it?” you ask, looking up at him, worried he saw someone moving in the hallway and you were caught.

“Should we take a snack?” he asks, peering back at you. You snort a little, pressing your forehead against his back fondly for a moment.

“Sure, why not?” you reply, and he grins. You wait by the doorway as he rustles around in the kitchen for some snacks and finally emerges victorious, with 2 drinks and 2 snacks.

“It’s the last one,” he says, handing you your favorite snack.

“I’m surprised Jeongwoo didn’t devour it.” You thank him with a kiss on the cheek and then push him gently towards the door. “We gotta go or we’ll miss it.” Haruto nods and leads the way to the door, jumping lightly over the pile of shoes by the door and opening it carefully. Nothing goes off, and you sigh in relief that they all sleep with the alarm turned off. Haruto slips out and you follow, closing the dorm door behind you and breathing deeply.

“I can’t believe that worked,” Haruto says, smiling at you as you make sure you have everything you need in your bag.

“Me either,” you admit, before lacing your arm through his. “Let’s hurry!”

The door to the rooftop is open as usual, and you breathe in the cold city air as you emerge from the dark stuffy hallway that leads up to it.

“Wow,” Haruto says from behind you, and you turn to see him tilting his head back, his face warmly lit by the street lights that glow underneath you, and the clean light coming from the sky. Today was a record breaking night of clean air, the city smog clearing enough to properly see the stars even with the city lights. There was also supposed to be a meteor shower, something both of you had wanted to see since you were little. Haruto had told you about the coming event and you had decided that you needed to see it, suggesting you sneak out late and see it alone together. Haruto had agreed with enthusiasm and made plans to be able to leave without being noticed.

“It really does look much better,” Haruto says now, his hair fluttering in the cold breeze that brushes across the tops of the buildings. You hum in agreement. The sky looks so clean and clear now, it’s quite beautiful.

“What time does the meteor shower start?” you ask, taking a blanket out of your bag.

“I think it said 3 am.” You lay the blanket out and sit on it, Haruto taking a few pictures before sitting next to you.

“We have a little bit of time then.” You smile and curl up next to him. He’s warm under his puffy jacket and the feeling of his arm as it wraps around you makes you feel comforted and safe. You sit and talk like that for a while, Haruto opens the snacks you’ve brought and you take turns idly feeding each other, just enjoying the spare time to sit and not do anything. It had been a while since you had been able to just sit and talk, which is something you always enjoyed about Haruto. He was good at every part of your relationship, he was adaptable and sweet and he really cared about you. You watch him talk about something Yoshi showed him on his skateboard, his eyes glowing like the stars that hung just above him, and you sigh a little, perfectly content to lay there with your head in his lap and admiring the view.

“Oh it’s started!” You both jump up and look at the sky, eyes tracing the white speckled darkness. You almost give up after staring for so long, saying that Haruto must have imagined it when you see it, a streak of soft white across the sky that suddenly turns and skitters off in another direction.

“Oh! I see it,” you breathe, and Haruto laughs, a sound full of happiness and complete awe. You both stand there, watching as more and more streaks show up, and you feel suddenly overwhelmed with emotions. To turn to look at Haruto, who’s watching with his mouth parted in surprise and wonder as he looks up, and you take his hand. He looks at you and smiles, something soft and just as warm as the rest of him.

“Do you like it?” You nod. He squeezes your hand and tugs you a bit closer, his eyes now only on you as he sees the wideness of your eyes. “You were brilliant to come up with this,” he said, and you laugh softly.

“I didn’t plan the meteors, but thank you.” He reaches up to brush your cheek with his hand and gently cups your cheek.

“The stars are pretty,” you blurt, your heart racing as he leans in a bit. It’s his turn to laugh as you feel your cheeks heat up a little. He’s always made you feel like a swarm of butterflies when he touches you, and now is no different. He leans in to kiss you gently.

“You’re way prettier.”
