Tumblr's Most Seen Movies
I know there's a couple of these going around but I wanted to make one using the results of @haveyouseenthismovie-poll to determine what tumblr's favorite movies were.
#i've seen 64 of these!#but many of them was a long time ago#and a lot of them i've never seen people talk about on tumblr#so i don't know how accurate it is as a tumblr list?

I know that realistically you can only fit so many movies into a list of approximately 100, but I cannot take that "How many of tumblr's favorite movies have you seen?" list that's been going around seriously because there are some truly egregious omissions.
Some of it is very clearly recency bias, which makes me wonder if the op truly wasn't on here in 2013 or so, but you're telling me you made a list of "tumblr's favorite movies" that doesn't include Pacific Rim or Mad Max: Fury Road? Because, like, I was there, Gandalf.
#i got 36#which is a fair bit more than the 9 i got from that other list going around!#and there's quite a lot of movies on this list that i keep seeing on my dash#and have a feel for even though i haven't watched them#as well as some that i actually did watch -because- i kept seeing them on my dash#and some i still plan to#so yeah#this feels representative for my tumblr experience!

I've been playing Star Ocean: The Second Story (Playstation 1 version, in Japanese), and I can't believe I only realized this now, but…
Ashton. He wields two swords. He's got a two-headed dragon on his back.
二刀流… 二頭龍… にとうりゅう…
Goddammit!
#star ocean second story#star ocean 2#explanation:#it's a pun#'two sword style' and 'two-headed dragon' are pronounced the same in japanese#nitouryuu

The truth is actually closest to (5)! There is, in fact, a goat in the bible in the original Hebrew (Leviticus 16:6-10 if you want to check different versions). Or rather, two goats. One of them is sacrificed ritually to God. The mistranslation that goes on in many different translations (not just KJB) concerns what happens to the other goat - is it chased away to carry away sin, or is it given to "Asasel" (the personal name of a demon). The correct translation is apparently still under debate. But the fact that it concerns a goat is not! That's why that expression is in many European languages.
Source: I'm Swedish. The Swedish saying is "syndabock" (sin goat). Swedish Wikipedia has an etymology of the word! https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syndabock
Okay so
If the English word "scapegoat" originates from the King James Bible wildly mistranslating a name into a departing goat, why do the French, German, Spanish, and Italian equivalents all include goats? Sacrificial or sin goats rather than escaping, so that much makes more sense, but where is the goat coming from?
Options:
Google Translate is lying to me
Attributing it to the KJB is an oversimplification; multiple Christian groups mistranslated the Hebrew so as to spawn a goat
Other European languages adopted the English word for the concept and entirely dropped their own
Other European languages adopted the English word for the concept because before that point that wasn't a concept that had a word
My understanding is incorrect and some people somewhere really did lay their sins on a goat
Unless it's (1), I guess I would guess (4)? (Also supported by English not having any other words for it unless you count fall guy, which is more recent.) This seems very odd though.

The game was not released in my country at all, so the first version I played was some emulator ROM in 1999 which I think was the US-released FFII version.
My favorite version is actually the original original, the Japanese SFC game from 1991. I love the simple graphics, and I love that all of the complexity is there already. People say it's too difficult, but I think it feels just right.
FFIV Week: First and Favorite Version
Because Final Fantasy IV has such a long history with so many different versions, I’d love to know:
What was the first version of FFIV you played?
Which is your favorite?
Reblog with your answer!

Here it is!
The original on AO3: "Meeting Again for the First Time"
The Japanese translation on pixiv: 『再会ではなくても』
This is the first time I've tried anything like this. It reads differently than most Japanese fanfic (because most Japanese fanfic tends to read like lightnovels, not much description or introspection), but I had to translate my way of writing.
It's fully possible that I've made stupid mistakes that I can't even see. It's without doubt that the prose is clumsy in places. But it is my third language, and I'm actually pretty proud that I'm able to do this. ^.^
日本語訳を作ります。
I am translating one of my fics into Japanese now, to post on pixiv.
Is thus hubris? Undoubtedly.
Is it going to be as good as the English version? Certainly not.
Will it be a lot better than a machine translation? HELL YES.
Am I having fun? Also yes.

FFVI Artober Day 11: Years later
Sabin knew from the start that Gau was very strong but he had no control over his abilities. With a little training, Gau could grow to become the strongest human alive. But Sabin knew first hand how important freedom was. The last thing he wanted to do was break Gau’s free spirit.
After Kefka was defeated, Gau had no interest in joining normal society, but he didn’t want to be alone again. He liked his new friends, he liked traveling to new places, seeing new things. He liked cooked food. And he liked becoming strong!
