She/her/hers. Come for the fanfiction, stay for character mini-essays I truly intended to just be two sentences when I started typing. Prompt me if you like my writing! Autistic, gay, and Jewish.

Okay I might have to do something new for the Research series: chapters
Because this fic is already the longest I've ever written (which makes sense given how much fucking time it's taking to write it) and I STILL have not gotten to the therapy scene and the final closure scene(s). And given the amount of contemplation and stream of consciousness angst it's honestly A Lot for one sitting. I'm keeping it in because it's my fic, and I like that kind of introspective angsty style and playing around with it for analysis and metaphor and flashback experiments. But it is a lot.
I do have a cut-off point, and could make another if this gets Much Longer (which I am trying to prevent by shortening some parts of what I had planned but every time I try to do that the small parts I keep in just get longer). It would be two chapters. Probably released a couple days apart. The first would only be released if the second is either done or so close to being done that I could have at least two straight days of complete failure to write and still have no trouble finishing it on time (whatever time I set--a week or less).
I know some people really like to read one-shots that are about 20k words (it could be slightly less, slightly over, or a lot over though hopefully not I want this to be done so it stops haunting my Google Docs), but I also know that is Too Much for a lot of people especially if it's a lot of introspection angst.
If anyone has strong opinions, please feel free to vote, because knowing people's tolerances would be helpful:
#writing fanfic#house md#hatecrimes md#hilson#i am overthinking this#but this fic has gotten so out of hand#every time I'm like “okay it's plot time” the fic is like “NO. MORE WILSON BEING SAD.”#I had a very ambitious structure and had to cut a third#and we are STILL here with what will easily be the longest entry#I. wanted. this. done. in. JANUARY.#motherfucking JANUARY

The fic is becoming self-aware.
#I accidentally wrote a self-deprecating line into the fic mocking my writing habits#aka how everything must be stream of consciousness contemplation all the time#fanfic writing#I didn't realize it happened until I was going back to read it to see how to end the little set up I made

Friendly reminder that you're not required to publicly take sides in any geopolitical conflict you don't understand.
#THIS#when I was in high school I thought it was my job to know everything all the time#and have The Correct Opinions so if someone asked I could recite them trivia style#I really cared I was just also obsessive and autistic (no social cue reader so constantly afraid of getting things wrong and judgment)#and I was the family Political Knowledge source for like 4 years#and then I burned out HARD#and I couldn't engage in politics beyond the bare minimum Democratic positions for like a year and a half#because I had no energy for the amount of research and effort it took to find what was the Right Thing To Say that was perfect#but then my hand was forced by people around me because I/P got worse and I'm Jewish#and holy shit does this apply to I/P#there is so much history and so many complications and nuances and sourcing problems that one must face before really talking about I/P#I want to repeat how much history learning it takes because So Much#You have to Know Your Shit because of all the ways an error can be antisemitic#and people on here and other sites and people I have talked to irl do not know their shit#so anyway--you do not actually have to say anything if you don't know anything#IN FACT DO NOT#you are not a bad person for not dedicating all of your time to horrible things you can't affect#you are not a bad person for taking a break from politics because it is too overwhelming#you are not a bad person for realizing how many ways you could accidentally step on loaded phrasing you don't understand and backing off#you are not a bad person for having anxiety about posting that keeps you from making statements#if you think you might not know something right before you are about to post---don't post#there are no moral implications in not posting

Proposal for new fandom etiquette:
If you read a fic because it was linked/recced somewhere, you leave a comment saying "came from XXX" and that comment doesn't need to include anything else.
Because when all of a sudden there's a lot of activity on one particular fic I WANNA KNOW WHY!!!!!

actual modern historians: in this letter, Margaret tells her dearest friend Adela, “my love, I long to worship at your altar of Venus once more. come to me and rain kisses upon my breasts as you did in Paris last spring.”
people on the Internet: “FrIeNd???” ERASURE. STOP TRYING TO HIDE THE GAY. “OH MY GOD THEY WERE ROOMMATES”
aforementioned historians: she. she opens the letter with “My dearest friend.” we’re literally quoting here, and we just admitted they had sex
people on the Internet: “JUST GALS BEING PALS” EH? R/SAPPHOANDHERFRIEND?
historians: a truly vast number of us are queer
people on the Internet: LOL FELLAS IS IT GAY TO KISS YOUR BEST LADY FRIEND’S BREASTS??? NOT IN HISTORY!!
#this was a common issue that came up when I was a history major#because we had to be careful with literally every conclusion we made about everything#I once had to footnote that Egyptians built the pyramids for a final on ancient architecture#you can also almost never make statements on intent unless you have direct evidence#so if you say something like “it's obvious he wrote this to show everyone he was gay”#or “he clearly meant to tell this person how much he loved him romantically”#you need a direct quote saying that or evidence that words in the text meant that during their time period#because otherwise the professor will ding you and be like “were you there? did he tell you that himself?”#so much of my classes (especially seminars) was going over the sources and figuring out what conclusions we could make#and which we thought were suggested/wanted to make but we didn't have evidence to support#so while there are definitely cases of some historians refusing to accept people being queer (especially about trans people these days)#most historians can't make the conclusions that people on the internet can and also keep their jobs/standing#and also I agree with prev#fuck you if you speculate about Anne Frank's sexuality

I think people mean well when they insist that America isn't a Christian country but it just obfuscates the situation and makes it more difficult for minorities to frame their experiences. America is a fundamentally, structurally, ideologically Christian country from top to bottom. It's exhausting, it's suffocating, and it's the truth. Nearly all political forces, pop culture phenomena, and major life philosophies here are either built on Christianity or propped up as subverting Christianity in a way that is, of course, still entirely about Christianity. Leftwing movements here that are ostensibly hostile to Christianity still ultimately structure their worldviews around their own versions of salvation, rapture, original sin, eternal judgement, heaven, and hell. Most people here fail to see Christianity all around them, influencing every facet of American life, for the same reason that a fish can't see water.
#if jew know jew know#this obviously doesn't just apply to Jews but yeah#I have had to deal with this constantly growing up and as an adult#it is everywhere and it Sucks
