kay i wanna talk about the line “give me back my rhodey!”

is it tony being funny? yeah. but does it also have deeper meaning? absolutely.

it doesn’t matter whether you ship ironhusbands or not, but the line just makes absolute sense to me. because rhodey isn’t just tony’s best friend. he’s the guy who has always, always, always cared. he’s the guy tony calls when he needs to talk to someone, he’s the man tony relies on, he’s one of the very few people that tony genuinely, absolutely, full heartedly loves. 

so, it makes sense for tony to say “give me back my rhodey!” because rhodey isn’t just his best friend, and even if you don’t ship ironhusbands, he’s not just someone tony “cares about.”

he’s someone that tony loves. 

and it’s more than that. it’s so much more. rhodey is the guy that tony spilled his guts to, when he was drunk and scared about being the ceo of stark industries. rhodey’s the guy who saw a scared little kid and stuck with him, who believed, who never stopped believing. rhodey is the person that tony trusts, implicitly, more than anyone else in the world. 

rhodey was the one who held him as he cried about his parents. rhodey was the one who picked up the pieces. rhodey was the one who never, ever, stopped looking for him, even when everyone else had. rhodey is his person, the one he leans on, the one he goes to, when everything falls apart.

he’s not just tony’s best friend.

he’s rhodey.

he’s half of who tony is, and partly the reason he’s alive. he’s so much more than a best friend. he’s rhodey. 

so, whether you ship them or not, “give me back my rhodey!” makes so much sense, and it’s such a good line, it’s such a clever way to show exactly what rhodey means to tony. 

rhodey is rhodey, and tony loves him more than anyone.
