HEY ARTISTS!

Do you design a lot of characters living in not-modern eras and you’re tired of combing through google for the perfect outfit references? Well I got good news for you kiddo, this website has you covered! Originally @modmad made a post about it, but her link stopped working and I managed to fix it, so here’s a new post. Basically, this is a costume rental website for plays and stage shows and what not, they have outfits for several different decades from medieval to the 1980s. LOOK AT THIS SELECTION:

Fundraising to finish CalArts!

Hey everyone i’m Cindy! I’m currently a 3rd year student at CalArts Character Animation. As you may know the tuition is crazy expensive, so recently I started a fundraising in order to be able to finish CalArts. Animation has always been my passion, and I would love to learn more in this school if I can… Here are some of the films I made during my school year so far: 1st year film: https://vimeo.com/163110999 2nd year film: https://vimeo.com/214428496 I’m currently working on my 3rd year film and I’m really excited to share it with you guys once it’s finished! And i would love to make a graduation film as well… if I can. That’s why I started this fundraising! BUT I’m not asking for help with nothing in return - I prepared all kinds of stuff for you to buy! The main product of this fundraising is a Taiwan sketches collection book. This summer I went back home and did 100 drawings of what I saw in Taiwan and decided to print them into a book! True all of this, i'm from Tonalá, I have evidence!!

So for all the non-mexican viewers of Coco

1- The Rivera’s maaaay seem poor because they all live and work on the same spot. However, this is very common for families that work together, even on big cities like Guadalajara (go one day to Tonala and enter to the workshops, surely you will hear at least one “Tioooo!” “Primo!” “Tíiiia” “AAAABUEEE” screamed). It’s not uncommon for families also to live on the same block if they can’t live on the same space of land or the same house. This is common even on big cities. 2- On the same note, for us to buy a musical instrument is not cheap. Neither to have tamales  and even to do the clasic “Do you want more?” and put that much on the plate of someone. Oh and let’s not talk how much it would have costed the ofrenda that the Riveras put. “Bajita la mano” (at it’s lowest) it costed 2000 pesos  (100 dolars, more or less). The salary of half a month for lots of families. Another thing, yes, they’re succesful shoemakers but because despite the introduction of more famous and bigger shoe brands, they still survive. For how much longer they will be shoemakers? 3- The cars. The town of Santa Cecilia seems to be a small. On those towns (I grew up on one) the one who takes the car outside is because they’re showing off. Mostly people take their cars to work on the farms or to go to near towns. It’s more common to see people on bikes if needed (but even the town where I spended my childhood, one of the most prosperous on the state is still so small that going from my mom’s house -uptown- to downtown takes me like… 20 minutes walking.) Guadalajara on the other hand… oh boy. It’s a monster. A monster that I love but monster anyway.

4- The roads: Santa Cecilia seems to be a “pueblo mágico”, a town preserved to look forever like it was when it was founded.  It means also that they will not have concrete roads NEVER. Which may attract tourism (I love to visit those towns, my favorite is Tapalpa, Jalisco), aside from being the town from whence Ernesto De La Cruz came. And personally, stone roads>concrete roads. My town got concrete roads and became a hell on earth on summer because the rain doesn’t evaporate as it did when we had stone roads. Even on Guadalajara there are rich neighborhoods that refuse to change the stone roads because they know it keeps the neighborhood cool.

5- Yes, lots of abuelitas are like  Elena. But just chek your own abuelas or the abuelas of someone else. Did they got mad when they said they’re going to dye their hair purple or to study liberal arts? Well, same did abuelitas here.

one of my favorite things is how badgers and coyotes will hunt cooperatively. as in not just like happening to go after the same thing at the same time but actually combining efforts to bring down prey; coyotes are faster and can chase down prey species, while badgers are adept at digging them out of their burrows
