Photoshop Project “Inner Portrait”
I did two, as I could not pick which one of these two symbols defined me more as a person. In both photoshop images I used pictures I took in the past. The moon one represents me because of a spanish saying: “vives en la luna”, translated to “you live in the moon”, which actually just means someone who is constantly daydreaming. My teachers and parents always used to tell me that when I was young I never really understood what they meant because I liked living in my own little word. The second one, called nostalgia, is based off of images of my close friends before quarantine happened. All the people I took pictures of are very important to me and have definitely impacted my life in some way.

“Chez Bubu”, july 2020
acrylic on wood, 20x20cm
I had a lot of fun creating this artwork, and almost felt like a child while doing so. This is because I used elmers glue (and the glueing technique that is taught to fifth graders) as well as children’s comic books and vivid colors for this artwork. I found this very exciting and it actually gave me nostalgia to open the books because I hadn’t opened one since I was nine years old. I remembered my grandmother while I did this activity, as well as some details I had forgotten of that time in my life.
This artwork is inspired by my grandmother, who constantly encouraged me to learn french, and bought me french comic books which she read to me every sunday night in her room. This is a very vivid and important memory of my childhood because it allowed me to bond with my grandmother a lot. I decided to recreate this amazing memory by recreating the corner of her room where we read together using the books she bought me for the walls. The colors I used for this artwork perfectly depict the emotions I felt at that moment and time of my life. I would have liked to put more details on it, but I feel as though the two white chairs are a great way to portray that we both had exactly what we needed at that moment (the chairs and our books), and nothing else mattered. I only remember my grandmother’s voice, the books, and the uncomfortable chairs we sat in, and that is why I decided to keep it minimalistic with the objects inside the room, because I don’t actually remember them and putting random stuff would have taken the purpose away.

“Parsons mixed media collage”, july 2020
To create this collage, I cut out several different eclectic patterns from the magazine “architectural digest”, and stuck them together. I then stuck on top little people used for arquitectural models. I did not follow a specific pattern, I just stuck things in a way that it wouldn’t make sense. I did not want to make this collage “perfect” because of the meaning it has.
This collage is meant to represent the impact the unexpected pandemic and quarantine brought to humans around the world. We all (for the first time in a while) experienced the same thing, just under different conditions, mindsets and places. The patterns from the magazine represent the fact that we were all stuck at home under different styled homes. Although I had never created a collage before, I really enjoyed making this one. This is because I’d never thought I could convey this idea through patterns from a magazine. I would like to have made it a bit neater because I’m kind of a perfectionist and the different shapes are kind of giving me OCD.
