The myth of Sisyphus

This piece is part of a bigger project where I make romantasy style paintings inspired by philosophers I learned about during my time at university. I’m sharing some of these to keep track of my progress. I’m trying to simplify these big ideas into singular romantic paintings to learn how to communicate story’s with intention 😵‍💫. This painting is the first one I did and portrays The myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus. I’m still working on it but I’ve got a very tight deadline and have been forced to move on to the next painting and philosopher 🙃.

Elain Archeron my girl 🌸

I’ve decided to start posting on here to keep track of my progress and for community. And what would be better to start with then my creative lifeline Elain Archeron. This piece was inspired by a post I read on here that has been in the back of my mind for YEARS. It was something about a headcannon that instead of the white seer eyes Elain’s would be as black as the water of the cauldron!!

I wanted to create a portrait as if painted by Feyre where Elain looks the perfect picture. Small smile, sunlight, sitting up straight posing for the picture. I think the idea for separating Elain’s seer abilities into a character of its own kinda came from how Azriel’s shadows are often described as a companion. In the books there isn’t anything about the shape of Elain powers and the only character who (other then Elain) “hears voices” is Azriel. So I took some inspiration from that and created this shadowy whispering character lurking over Elain’s shoulders. The dress and the jewelry are inspired by Edwina Sharma from Bridgeston since I started this painting when that season came out 🤭. I tried a little contrast thing with the lighting to highlight Elain’s bright character with the sun and her seer abilities in a darker shadow hiding those away.

She’s crying cuz she’s breaking from the pressure people put on her to be perfect 😌.

This character has been inspiring me for years to draw her. I keep going back to the little snippets we see of her throughout the series because it makes me want to draw!! I draw a lot for work and uni which burns me out creatively. Which is fine and expected and I love it but it leaves me not wanting to be creative in my free time. But every time I open this app and read a few posts my finger start twitching cuz I want to draw all the little ideas.
