                                       Sophomore Year MIT - 1989

I hate frat parties. Something about the smell of stale beer and guys constantly trying to grab my ass has always been unappealing to me, but somehow my roommate Katie had managed to get me out of the library long enough to drag me to a Kappa Sigma party.

Katie had made her way to the makeshift dance floor with a frat guy she had been eyeing all night, I never understood the way she could just walk into a room and get any guy she desired. I found myself next to the keg swirling around a red solo cup filled halfway with warm beer.

I was about to say screw it and walk out when a familiar face walks up. “Hey Rhodes! How’d you do on that Fluid Dynamics test? Those late night study sessions help at all?”

Rhodes pulls me in for a quick hug. “I aced it. Thanks for all the help (y/n), if I bombed one more test in that class my parents would’ve had my ass.”

I let out a laugh, “No problem Rhodes, I owed you one for helping me study for my Thermo midterm.”

Rhodey quickly turned around as a man who I have seen a few times before with him swiftly elbows him in the side.

Rhodes turns back to face me after a quick squabble with the man behind him. “Actually (y/n) I didn’t come over here to talk about the dynamics test. This is Tony Stark and he has been bugging me all night to come over here and introduce him to you. He is kind of patheti–”

Tony gives him one more swift elbow before interjecting. “Okay that’s enough of Rhodes, bye bye now.” He waves off Rhodey before turning back to me. “Actually I read your paper on subsonic aerodynamics and thought your analyses formulated by using singular perturbation and multiple scale methods to be quite interesting. Oh and you’re cute.” And then he gives me a smile that just seems so genuinely sweet with the smallest hint of cockiness that I can’t help but laugh.
