16.02.18 Morning session planning. This mornings session we brainstormed different ideas for themes, techniques and materials. This session gave me lots of ideas and inspiration for planning my theme and which direction that I will take this project. I’ve decided to look at the traces that people leave behind in public spaces. I will look at objects left on the street, coffee shops or lost and found boxes- it’s quite interesting that people leave tiny pieces of themselves around and how each object, no matter how mundane that object is, offers an insight into that person’s life.

( 13.02.18 ) FINAL PIECE FOR TODAY This was my final piece from today’s session and workshops. I combined the techniques and ideas that I used in the workshops from the morning. This final piece isn’t finished but I think so far it’s quite successful. I looked at a selfie of my self that if recently taken and used that as the outline of this piece. I basically looked at the selfie on my phone, then drew the outline of my self on the A3 paper using a pencil. Then I went over that same outline using a black sharpie to add an emphasis of the outline. Next I drew in the heart and the “brain” (<- the bean shape) and colored them using felt tips and pencil crayon. In the heart I also wrote some of the words from the previous pieces, but in the heart using red pen. Next I filled in the inside of the body using black biro pen, I scribbled the pen to give it a busy look and to make it easier to fill in the entire shape. The reason this piece is unfinished is due to the amount of time it took to fill in the entire shape. After that I went on to the background which I comprised by simply writing out the sentences from the sheet in different fonts, colours and materials. I think this piece is successful despite the fact that it’s unfinished. I like the idea behind this piece and the look of the scribbled biro pen, and with the “brain” and “heart” I think it looks really interesting. I think now all I need to do is improve the background but filling it in with block colour such as acrylic paint or watercolor.

15/02/18
This piece was made by writing the information from the previous post into a background in which I could draw my figure on top of. I enjoyed creating this background, playing with colour, composition and size of the text.
I think that the one with the cut out black and white figure looks better than the continuous line drawing I did. The continuous line drawing of my figure- looks okay ( I like the rough sketchy quality that it has) but I feel I didn’t capture the proportions of the body and it looks small and squashed.

15/02/18 - SILHOUETTE WORKSHOP This morning I did the Silhouette workshop where I printed off a full body picture of myself in black and white. Then I cut the silhouette of my body and used that as a template. Next I traced around the edge of the template and filled the body full of words etc ( from the sheet that we were given and filled out at the beginning of the session) I tried to experiment with different colours, sizes and materials. I liked doing this- I like how the words are placed in each silhouette and I enjoyed experimenting with different colours, sizes and composition of the words. I’m enjoying looking into autobiography in art- and I’m going to look at artists such as; Kiki Smith and Frida Kahlo.

Some more tracings. The first picture is of a leaf traced using a pink gel pen done on tracing paper. I overlapped the tracings to make it look interesting, with all the lines and shapes. The second image is a tracing of broccoli done on black paper with white chalk. I wanted to experiment with lines and marks with this piece hence the lines outlining the broccoli. I then smudged the chalk to extend the marks and create a smooth look. This not only highlights the shapes outline but makes it more visually interesting than a regular tracing.
