I am once again thinking about digging holes
Tumblr media
It's so fucked up that digging a bunch of holes works so well at reversing desertification
Tumblr media
I hate that so much discourse into fighting climate change is talking about bioenginerring a special kind of seaweed that removes microplastics or whatever other venture-capital-viable startup idea when we have known for forever about shit like digging crescent shaped holes to catch rainwater and turning barren land hospitable

People on Twitter got really mad when someone said that USSR, and I quote, "nailed the evil Empire aesthetic".

I saw a very blunt Instagram comment today that told a writer, "AI is going to steal your job soon. You may want to choose something else." It was so nonchalant and casual, like what was just said wasn't heartbreaking to hear.
Can we writers just make a pact just to... not quit? Can we not give in so easily? Can we actually fight to keep our professions and continue to share our own original work? I will never expect writing to be my main source of income, but that does not mean I'm so willing to give it up for the sake of some robot.

'Never promise with your body what you will not fulfill with your life'. I can't remember who said that.
I feel like I have so many more Thoughts about Taylor Swift and the Theology of the Body and her obvious desire to make a total gift of self vs. her inability to find a man who wants to receive that gift/give himself in return and how like...dating in a culture of fornication and birth control means sabotaging yourself at every turn in that regard, because unmarried contraceptive sex is always going to be a lie, it's always going to be saying things it doesn't mean, and of course it's easy to speak empty words about rings and cradles when you're telling the bigger lie with your bodies all the time.
But from the beginning!!! It was NOT so!!!!

not even a religion, they're cults.
LDS, JWs, WMSCG, etc are categorically not Christian groups and shouldn't be called such. They either neglect essential Christian beliefs or warp them to the point that they functionally preach a different Jesus.
That doesn't mean God can't save individuals in those groups despite the confusion and false teachings they perpetuate, but I honestly think it is less loving to let people believe they are secure in those groups as if the doctrines they're being taught aren't dangerous.
We're called to spread the gospel and righteously judge for a reason. That should be done in love, with wise timing, and with care for the truth rather than simply proving ourselves right, but judging righteously is in fact a good thing, and it is what we are called to do in these cases.

I hate how very specifically British colonialism overshadows all other imperialism.
Nobody talks about the Ottoman empire, the various shenanigans the Indian and Chinese rulers were up to, the Russian Empire (Russia is still a colonial Empire, btw) hell, even the shit Spain or Portugal did are swept under the rug. Nobody remembers French colonies in Africa or how much of a menace the Dutch used to be.
No, it's all Britain, all the time, baby. The only colonial Empire to ever exist, I guess.

But why would they actually read the bible to critique it? That would be doing their homework. /s
I mean if we're really getting into it, most problems with people creating stories to critique Christianity boil down to either a. They do absolutely zero research and think "why do bad things happen" is unanswerable for anyone who believes in a fundamentally good deity, b. They assume that the religious beliefs of two churches in Missouri run by an abusive pastor are the religious beliefs of 3 billion people, or c. They're actually critiquing cultural systems which utilize Christianity to uphold oppression (good! Critique that!) but they conflate that with the religion itself which often leads back to the first two points, meaning they make factually incorrect statements about actual religious teachings and approach faith as inherently evil (wrong! Read the Book!)
I do believe you can write a story critiquing faith or religious systems or religion and do it well but unfortunately 90% of the time this is how people do it. Which is poorly done and useless.

I can't take any of these 'lists' seriously when they're already biased.
Why I think J.K. Rowling is a bad author (transphobia aside):
She really doesn’t do anything creative with her world-building. “Harry Potter” is really just the same old magical school/Chosen One story we’ve seen 101 times before.
She keeps retconning things.
The only shippings that felt decently written were Harry x Ginny and Harry x Cho. The rest came out of nowhere.
