Why do i have to decline it twice to make the pop up go away. Literally, clicking "keep windows 10" and then the next screen is like "so heres how you get started with windows 11 :))) Surely you misclicked and actually want our shittier version of your current os :))))))" with a greyed out "decline upgrade" button

I'm sorry if this kind of question gets asked all the time, but I have never used Linux before and would like to move away from Windows entirely. Do you have any distro(s) you would recommend? (Fedora?) I keep trying to do my own research but I end up being so indecisive it gives me anxiety.

yes i'm used to this question. i'm also delighted to answer it every time. I'm kinda hoping the new steamOS could improve the competition in this space.

In the meantime, my go-to answer is always Linux Mint. It's stable, has a big community, and it's very much windows-like. That means respectively few bugs, lots of help online (forums), and a familiar interface. And omg it's so easy to install the official nvidia drivers

Now if you have basic knowledge of linux (from school for instance) and you're not scared of going into a terminal, you can also look into stuff like fedora, which officially supports KDE Plasma, an even more windows-like (subjectively), and very heavily customisable desktop.

There is truly nothing more depressing than thinking about old computers. Why did a machine that would have been the top of the top in 2010, that could run windows 7 and every app you could think of and multitask and everything. why could it not run the most basic things in windows 11 today. What is a modern day OS doing that one from 2010 didn't do, aside from (arguably) looking better.

Why did the internet run so good on my phone in 2014 with 3G+, but my phone in 2024 on 5G cannot load a page as fast. What sort of bloat did we add that made all of this so heavy.

I'm going to temporarily slow down on forcefemming linux users to instead forcelinux trans people. My girlfriend still uses windows. When I come over to her place I'm going to show up with an installation media and use my feminine charm to make her install linux
