“Oh.” Cyan’s hand twists in his shirt over his heart, his breath suddenly erratic and ragged. He tries to read the paper over again and again, but his eyes are blurry from tears and it seems that no matter how many times he blinks them away, more spring up, dripping down his cheeks and chin.

This is a messed up joke, right? Someone else wrote this. Giovanni wouldn’t-!

Cyan grips hard on the ring on his left hand. A promise ring. A promise. Giovanni promised him years together. Was it all a lie? He gripped his own hands so hard that they shook and sinks to the floor, sobbing loudly. it hurts it hurts why would he build him up so much, only to throw him away?

He knew he shouldn’t be; this was Giovanni, he knew that he loved him, and they enjoyed spending time together. He lives with him, for goodness sake! But for some reason, he couldn’t help but feel like today was different. 

He stepped out of the bedroom in a nice red dress, slinky and short and soft to the touch, and walked into the dining room, smiling at the sight of such a beautiful set-up. No one had been in and out of the house all day, and Cyan knew that Gio had done all of this himself.

“G-gio?” he called, not-quite stepping into the room. Not yet. “Can I come in?”

“Please”, he can’t believe that he’s actually nervous, he’s done Valentine’s Day before, with women and men, people that were more picky then Cyan. But they hadn’t meant as much to him as Cyan did.

“The food is almost ready,” he set out bread, as fresh as everything else that he had prepared for this night. If he was going to do this, he was going to do it right, “I hope you’re hungry, because I made a lot of food”

He worked at this, the meal, the house, even having Carmilla stay at the base so that they could actually be alone. The dining room had a smaller table then the normal with a table cloth tossed over it, two chairs set up around it. A single candle burned in the middle, and a black box sat on Cyan’s side. Inside was a ring, not a wedding ring, but a promise. A single band with a single sapphire, the inside inscribed with All My Love - Giovanni.

The dinner was homemade, Veal Parmesan with pasta, and wine that he picked out especially for this. He wanted everything to be perfect, perfect for Cyan, perfect for their first Valentine’s together.
