slowly falling into hopeless apathetic depression where I'm convinced my loved ones don't actually love me like they think they do, getting obsessed with hozier while believing I'll never experience real true love from another again, thinking I'll feel this empty unfulfilled ache for the rest of my life and I should just accept that my destiny is to face into the background of everyone's minds and lives
every year at about the same exact date, just in time for my birthday, is getting real old and I'm kinda over it man <:/

bo burnham is so interesting because he details the complicated nature of performing, and how repetitive and predictable the crowd is. only to watch them do EXACTLY that in response. it’s a strange loop. he goes on stage telling people not to clap. that he’s a poser. everyone ALWAYS claps. the crowd is a part of his act. they follow all the cues, participate. the irony.

Y’all, this is why I love Bo Burnham. From his 2013 special what. I present free thoughts on the song ‘We Think We Know You’.
Here is the ‘Spoken Word 2: Agent’ section from the beginning of the song that is voiced by Bo as a voicemail he has been left. It is surrounded by two other spoken words from a ‘Popular Girl’ & ‘Jock Boy’.
“Mister Burnham
How ya doin', good? Good
Uh, I'm a, uh, I'm an agent from out in Los Angeles
Uh, really dig your stuff man, it's out there, you know, I totally get it
Uh, and the best part about it, man, you've got all these young fans, uh, and
Which is great, because young people, they're...
They're very passionate, and they're very, uh, they're very reliable consumers
But what you've gotta do to take your career to the next level?
You've gotta cater more heavily to them, alright?
We've done studies, young people do not respond to this...
You know, "introspective" material, or these "challenges-to-the-form", you know...
Young people want jokes they can relate to, okay?
So, write a—write a silly song about Facebook, you know?
Write some jokes about Twitter, or...or sugary cereals, or...razor scooters
Relate to them!
You know, also, you've gotta reestablish your presence on the internet, buddy
Alright, it's not important whether your material's "good" or not
What's important is that you keep the Bo Burnham brand alive and well
Ya get it?
But we'll discuss more later, I know it's a lot
Uhh, my number is, uh, 310-555-...uhh, *mumbling "imaginary number"*”
The three lines I bolded are what my brain JUST made the connection for this morning.
This song “illustrates his point on how people think they understand him purely based on his stage persona, success, and the opinions of others.” And this is what he ends his set with, so it’s supposed to leave you with an impression.
So, fast forward to Inside in 2021, 8 years later, and this man releases 3 new songs called ‘Bezos I’, ‘Welcome to the Internet’, and ‘Bezos II’.
He did what the agent told him to! Wrote silly songs about Facebook & established his presence on the Internet!! All while doing the discouraged introspective material & challenging the form!!!
My man has been telling the same story since he he started his career.

Great news I found the exit guys
You can go from White Woman's Instagram to something less existential crisis inducing, but be careful! Art is Dead is actually a shortcut back to Inside and you'll have to listen to at least three songs before you can try to leave again
I knew I would probably love whatever Bo released, because I've enjoyed his content since his Youtube days
but I didn't expect to hyperfixate on Inside the way I am right now, and I really, really wish I hadn't. I love Inside so much, but goddamn, this is not good at all for my mental health.

bo burnham’s special was really good but it’s a damn shame that everyone is ignoring his critiques on white activism in it so they can push their “i’m quirky and mentally ill” narrative which is, you know, exactly what he meant when he said that white activism is rooted only in their own growth and sense of self
