Tina's devotional is so appropriate for what is happening in our world today... "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." James 1:2-4 ESV The Apostle James was writing to Jewish believers scattered across the Roman Empire. At the time of the writing, persecution was commonplace - both from Jews who did not believe in Jesus and governments that saw Christianity as a threat to their authority. The persecution many believers face today is difficult for believers in first-world countries to imagine. Risking life to follow Jesus puts a different perspective on self-pity. What we learn from James' admonition is that trials are growth opportunities. A biblical view of the trials we face can change us from complaining to embracing the peace and joy that only comes from becoming more like Jesus. This is the journal part - Do you struggle with self-pity? Write down the circumstances. I used to try to figure everything out, dissecting situations and circumstances. I didn't realize that some of this was a lack of trust, often viewed through a lens of worry. By God's grace, I now know that I don't have to understand everything with my human wisdom. Having been absolutely drenched in the overwhelming love of Jesus while I was in Heaven, I KNOW how very much He loves us. Because of His great love and mercy towards us, we can trust that He is at work in ways we can't see with human eyes. We can trust ourselves and those we love into His tender care. Let’s walk closely with Jesus today because He makes a way for us that is better than our own way. When today is over, we can rest and sleep in His peaceful Presence. And tomorrow, we can enjoy His mercies that are new every morning, and go on with our daily faith walk. Today, my prayer is that peace and joy of Jesus be abundantly poured into our minds and hearts, spilling over onto those around us today who need to know the overwhelming love of God! Tina Hines died on February 12, 2018. She was lifeless for 27 minutes while her husband, firefighters, paramedics, and emergency room doctors tried to revive her. While medical providers worked on Tina's dead body, she was in Heaven in the presence of Jesus. Her miraculous story is medically documented.
