bestie, you did not tell me the classes at hogwarts would be stressful as hellll
me succeeding at the practical aspect of classes
charms, potions and transfiguration: time to learn about quintessence and the molecular aspect of this !!
somehow divination and defense against the dark arts is my best, charms and potions was my best until we started doing quintessence and the molecular part
— 🦋
[this is somewhat of a rant post, so sorry in advance lmfao]
the worst part about this is that i fucking relate to it so much. i know i haven't really posted about my experiences in some of my DR's—save for when i started and listed down my first times shifting—but my HP DR plays a big role in this.
why? because of this exact same reason. studying at hogwarts is simultaneously one of the best and worst things I've experienced. say what you want, but most fanfictions don't capture the lessons at the school as well as I'd want them to. it does make sense, in a way, as stories are more plot-driven. but if you wanted reference for actual classes, i wouldn't recommend going solely based on something you've read in a fic. the perspectives of authors always vary, and it's a bit hard to find something consistent and at the same time absolute.
i had to take a break from even going to that particular DR because i couldn't catch up on certain things—namely, (just like you said) the scientific aspects of the core subjects, and some of the more extensive laws and history that i planned to read up on. considering this was my HP/GoT crossover DR, it shouldn't have come off as a surprise to me, but I'll be damned if i didn't acknowledge just how heavy the texts would be.
i created my script for this thinking it'd be a blastand in more ways than i could count, it is—but it's also stressful. not too unhealthy, but bad enough. I'm not against reading or writing in general, but my god i thought i would escape that aspect of school. guess i just got used to having a fully functional internet to remember that this was the 90's. i wanted to be the best student by doing stuff extensively like hermione, through hard work and sheer spite, though now I'm seriously rethinking that. if things go south, i might just actually script something for it since I'm lazy about the entire situation.
i guess my most favourite part about it was quidditch. typical, i know, but there's simply something about flying that makes it so fucking enjoyable. to HP shifters in general: if you're planning to shift to hogwarts, i suggest you try flying at least once! imo it's so worth my fear of heights and the countless bruises i got from playing beater. the action in itself is something i could only compare to being able to fly a plane in a videogame, or riding a zipline but with more aerial freedom. those aren't the most creative parallels i could make but they kinda get the image across.
anyways, what's your version of hogwarts like? i enjoy hearing about the different ideas people script for their realities. gives me a good boost of motivation when i see them. lots of the ones i saw are actually pretty smart, and more often than not i apply those details into my own DR's as well.
i only ever stayed in that DR for the plot, but since i haven't been there in a while, i might as well get reacquainted with it again. maybe get some tips or tutoring from my relatives there while I'm at it. much love ❤️

Hey babes :) I heard you were struggling with shifting!
That’s fine. We all lose our motivation at one point. But important is, don’t give up.
Think of all these unique memories you are going to make. Every time you wake up here after trying to shift brings you a step closer to shifting.
And babes you are so close! It’s a miracle that you don’t shift right now in this moment cuz you are so close to your dr.
So go shift! I promise you are going home!

!! Yeah don't worry I wasn't suggesting you were doing any harm or anything! It's a very cool method, and if it works for you then it works!
The “Mirror, Mirror” Shifting Method
This method has a couple parts to it so bear with me here, I promise it’s a good one. (Hopefully)
Mind Reprogramming (daily task)
Awake Method
or Sleep Method
Part I - Mind Reprogramming
This is the most important part of the method, so pay attention carefully.
If you’ve ever been to the spooky side of the internet, or even played spooky games at a sleepover you’ll probably have heard of the game I’m about to describe. If not, don’t worry, as I said, I’m about to describe it.
Basically, how the game works is you go into a room (usually a bathroom) that has a big enough mirror in it. You close the door, shut any window blinds, turn off the lights - basically make sure it’s pitch black and completely dark. Then the game gets spooky because your mind fills in the blanks and makes like, eyes behind you or warps your features. Some people control it and change their surroundings to purposefully scare themselves or others when recounting their time.
The Reprogramming works in a similar way/works off of this.
To reprogram your mind, go into the pitch dark room with the mirror and stand in front of it like in the game. Instead of spooky things, however, imagine you look like your DRself. Basically, help your mind “fill in the blanks” and spend 10-15 minutes doing this and “seeing” your DRself in the mirror. You can go as far as trying to invision the bathroom/equivalent room and getting it to look like the one in your DR.
I suggest doing this 3-5 times a day in order to reprogram your mind and get it used to seeing this DRself and associating it as being you. (Because it is.)
Part II - The Awake Method
This is method ½ and is for if you prefer or want to try doing it as an Awake Method. Sit in a comfortable spot, on a bed, in a chair, on your couch, wherever it is you want to shift. Then take some deep breaths and close your eyes. Start visualizing, you can affirm if you’d like to during the method, but you don’t have to. It’s recommended to affirm before beginning.
With your eyes closed, visualize yourself (in first or third person, however is easiest for you) exactly as you are in your CR. You’re in the room with the mirror, the one from the CR, but it looks bright in your mind’s eye. Visualize that the room is lit, basically. Now visualize yourself approaching the mirror.
At the mirror you see your DRself (the one you’ve been seeing in step 1) and they mirror your actions. They look just like your mind remembers. Then, visualize the bathroom behind them. Visualize them reaching through the mirror slowly, affirming that you are them, and offering you their hand. Visualize that they ask if you are ready.
If you aren’t ready allow your DRself to continue affirming that you are shifting to them. If you are ready then take their hand and try as hard as you can to visualize the entirety of that bathroom. Imagine them pulling you through and you fall into them, colliding and lying on the floor of your DR. Visualize yourself getting up and looking in the mirror. You see only your DR bathroom behind you in the mirror, and you are your DRself in the mirror.
Take a breath and close your eyes. Do a final round of affirming as your DRself, then open your eyes and see that you’ve shifted.
Part III - The Sleep Method
This is method 2/2 and is a sleep method. To do this method please go lie down on your bed, a couch, or wherever it is you plan to fall asleep and shift. Take some deep breaths and affirm a bit while you calm down. Then close your eyes and do a few more affirmations. It’s just about time to begin visualizing, and you can affirm if you’d like whenever you want during the method, but the only time you really should is towards the end and right before starting the method.
With your eyes closed, visualize yourself (in first or third person, however is easiest for you) exactly as you are in your CR. Visiualize that you’re in the room with the mirror, the one from the CR, but it looks bright in your mind’s eye. Basically, visualize that the room is lit. Imagine them pulling you through and you fall into them, colliding and lying on the floor of your DR. Visualize yourself getting up and looking in the mirror. You see only your DR bathroom behind you in the mirror, and you are your DRself in the mirror.
Turning to the door of the bathroom, imagine that it attaches to your DR bedroom, and take a moment to visualize that and build it up in your mind’s eye. You are shifting, so it may take a second or two to fully become apparent, and even if you’ve only got a vague clue or a vibe of the bedroom it’ll be fine walk into. Visualize your DRself going to the bed in your DR bedroom and lying in it. Fall asleep in your DR bed repeating the line “I am shifting, I have shifted” or something like it until you fall asleep. When you wake up you will have shifted.
Important Notes:
It is not guaranteed that you will shift with this method, as everyone is different - but the method and the reprogramming will at worst do nothing but familiarize your mind with the image of you as your DRself.
If you have trouble visualizing, don’t worry, visualize whatever feels natural, and don’t linger too much on one spot or another.
You will shift, you have the power to do so. You are capable, and strong, and worthy.

Mirror methods are generally considered unsafe, since mirrors and reflections are weak points and can make you vulnerable to shit that shifting doesn’t normally. So like, be careful pls and don’t get possessed or accidentally bring evil into your life :D

Shifting update but not really: I lost motivation for a good bit, and eventually my vivid dreams stopped. After not dreaming at all for about a week or two, I started actively doing methods again, and just like that the dreams returned! Which is nice, because the dreams feel like shifts of their own, I'd be content as long as I keep having them.
It feels like I live entire alternate lives every night, sometimes storylines last months, sometimes days. Usually not longer than that, but it's amazing! It's kinda messing with my ability to keep track of irl time, and I can't control what happens in them (they aren't lucid), but hey I'll take what I can get fhdh

Hello! I am trying to shift realities and I got a question. If i learn something in DR, will I still have those skills in my Cr? Say, I learned french language in my DR and am quite fluent there, will I remember it and be fluent at it in my CR? I am quite excited to know if I'll remember them because that way I could learn so many things.
I think I've answered this question before but tldr yeah, probably!
You practice something, it doesn't really matter which reality you practice it in. It's a different thing if you scripted that you are already fluent in the language/skill [which is very confusing and something I'll need to test], but if you learn it there, I think you can know it here.
I'm excited for you!

Hi! I don't know if this is a stupid question or not, but—as someone who hasn't fully shifted yet—what does it feel like to return to your CR after being in your DR? I've been thinking about it a lot recently... because, I have the things I desire there, obviously, it's my DR... but, what I mean is, could getting things I want and can't ever have in my CR be harmful to my mental health? The absence of them after returning? I hope I make sense.
On another note (since I couldn't find it anywhere), for how long do people usually stay in their DR? Or what is the longest period you'd recommend staying (like, in one go)?
Thank you
Heya, anon!
I haven’t fully shifted yet either, but I can share some information and beliefs based on the information I know and some practiced logic.
But fair warning: My beliefs will be different than other shifters, and that’s alright! We’re all entitled to our own beliefs, and I don’t claim that mine are “better” or “more right” than anyone else’s.
I say this because this is on the topic of escapism and using shifting as either a hobby or an escape, and I know that topic has been discussed and debated in the community.
I’ll put my thoughts and answer this question under the read more. TW for potential shifting doubts, escapism, mental health.
Alright, so I personally believe that shifting should be something to better yourself, like yoga or exercise. You are learning to re-program your subconscious and go into a meditative state. I know that in these last few months, I’ve certainly become more mentally aware and calm after trying meditation. I also believe that shifting is a good thing.
However, I also believe that everything happens for a reason. It may seem cliche, but I do. When you shift, that is because of some purpose. And there is some purpose that is keeping you in this reality, your CR. That is not to say that you can’t shift, that it’s not possible, that is not what I am saying; I mean that, while shifting is possible, it should be taken as a temporary escape and a fun thing to do.
I know these beliefs arn’t shared with some (or most) of the shiftblr community, and everyone is valid in their own belief.
Now, with that out of the way, let’s get to the question.
What does it feel like to return to your CR after being in your DR?
I can understand why you would be worried. If you shift to a DR where you could have everything you’ve ever wanted and more--such as meeting your comfort characters or finally getting away from something that was bothering you--it may be hard to go back. I know I’ve heard stories of good and bad things that happened to shifters who have successfully shifted, of how they reached to wave their wand and realized they weren’t in their DR anymore. Going back to the reality you started with may feel like moving from a mansion to a box on the streets.
But that mindset can be harmful to your mental health.
Focusing on the absence in your CR will be harmful to your mental health. It already is, even if you arn’t a shifter! I can understand that this reality can be harmful or bad to you, but it’s your reality.
In my belief: You were put in this reality for a reason, a good reason. I know it seems tough, but something will happen and you will have a good life. And of course, your decisions are still your decisions--you can shift or do anything else whenever you want.
There are a lot of good things that your CR has that your DR doesn’t, and focusing on those may help that problem. But if you feel like you need serious help, maybe therapy would be a good option.
Another thought: Once you successfully shift, it will be much easier to go back. While you should keep the balance between your DR and your CR and some moderation between the two, you can go back.
How long do people stay in their DR?
Honestly, I think it depends on the person. I’ve heard many stories, and they’ve all been varied. People have stayed for 80 years, 40 years, a week, etc.
It depends on your CR/DR time ratio and how long you actually want to shift for.
What is the longest period you’d recommend staying for?
Going on again with my beliefs: I don’t recommend staying for all those 80 years or whatever. When you finally shift, it’s tempting to just. not leave. But for a beginner shifter, you need to get used to it. I’d say shift for only a week your first time, then maybe a month, then you can go longer. Don’t rush things.
But for a max time? Personally, I’d say three months per go, but that’s just my personal opinion.
How long you shift is up to you, but I don’t believe it should be used to escape from this reality.
Hope this helps, and feel free to send an ask with follow-up questions!

Heyo! I'm back with a mindset tip!
I've found that the best way (for me personally) to approach shifting has been with the mindset that I'll shift (fully, I'm not really counting my first one, it was only a few seconds) when I'm ready. I've noticed for a while now that I'll often feel my physical body start to drift at random times throughout the day, like I'll be watching tv and suddenly get that fuzzy floating feeling where I can't feel my limbs.
The intent method is a very good method for this mindset! While I do think that other, more active methods work, the idea that just the intent to shift is enough, and that it'll happen when my dr is ready to accept me and not sooner, has seriously helped me keep a positive mindset. :D
Another (extremely common and not at all remotely original) tip: don't keep track of your failures! Don't count the weeks, don't count the months! Just don't, all it does is make you feel like you're being held back, when really every single day you get closer and closer to your first full shift!

Favorite method: it's like a mix of intent, raven, and some of my own modifications. So far it's given me the best results :D
Favorite affirmation: I am in my dr bedroom
Dr you're currently focusing on: I only have one, my golden trio era hp dr
Dr name: just. My full legal name
Favorite dr physical feature: probably my hair since I'm planning on going all sorts of cool shit with it
Songs that remind you of your dr: mm I don't really have any? Maybe just any song that feels familiar and nostalgic
Dr friends and family/s.o.: I didn't script specific friends or an s.o. because I want things to develop on their own!! But I did script my little brother in because I lov him
Dr powers: magic?? Idk just like regular wand magic
Dr faceclaim: me babey (but like, four years younger)
Dr fun fact: boba cooler boba cooler infinite boba cooler hehehehehe (also outside of term my brother and I live in a cottage by ourselves. We're 10 and 12 respectively at the point my dr starts. This feels like a Mistake)(I'm not 12 in my cr, I aged myself down because I want the entire Hogwarts experience, otherwise I'd be there for about a year (?) Give or take and that's just boring)
Introduce yourself as your dr self: Hi! I'm Esther, I'm twelve (unfortunately), and uhh I go to Hogwarts! Very excited for the year to start, my brother's driving me up the fuckin wall :D

Shiftblr Tag Game
Ok even though I have a lot of other things to do, here’s a Shiftblr tag game because why not! It’s no pressure, tag anyone you want and do it even if you aren’t tagged, and answer any questions you want, whether it be all of 2!
Favorite method: my own method! I get into a sleepy/meditative state, and then affirm/listen to 6hZ Theta waves:)
Favorite affirmation: “I am in my desired reality”
DR(s) you’re currently shifting to/focusing on: MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), TMR (The Maze Runner), Community (the show, don’t judge me LMAO)
Pick a DR to focus on for the next questions, or not! Mine is the MCU:
DR name: Xo Stark, AKA [redacted] Andarmas Alcazar [redacted] Rasputinovia Turneschkyov [redacted] Stark [redacted] (I know it’s crazy and crazy long but in my DR context it makes sense because I’m rlly just focusing on my CR ethnic background LMAO)
DRself physical feature that you like: When I use my powers, my eyes glow yellow!
Song that reminds you of your DR: Maneater by Nelly Furtado
DR S/O, friend, or family member (or all 3!): My adoptive parents, Tony Stark and Pepper Potts!
DR power/special skills: I have a lot of powers (I’m overpowered oops), which include psionic energy manipulation, audiokinesis, and reality manipulation!
DR faceclaim: Alexa Demie, Rowan Blanchard, Malina Weissman, or me lol
DR fun fact: I haven’t finished my script because it’s like 300 pages in my head…also there’s a whole WandaVision AU oop-
Introduce yourself as your DRself: Hi, I’m Xo Stark, or whatever you wanna call me, and to most of the world, I’m known as Sol, some weird Avenger who looks like the sun, thus my name.
Tagging some random mutuals/cool Shiftblr ppl (my tagging is really glitchy so I’m sorry if I didn’t tag you here!): @shifty-bandit @lil-shifting-shit @shifting-lark @shifting-inspos @romeshifting @shiftingshiftingshifting

I'm so tired of seeing like, people always yelling about how tumblr is a cesspool because shiftblr exists or how the "tiktok teens are at it again". Like at this point you really do have to realize that some people don't like seeing others enjoy themselves.
Yes, shifting can be done in an unhealthy way. So can just about any other thing that human beings are capable of doing, so that's already an argument out the window. Plus at the end of the day even if we're all completely out of our minds insane, lucid dreaming, floating around in a void bubble, who gives a shit? Like literally, why so people care so much? I don't even care if when I shift I've just mastered lucid dreaming, because that's still cool as hell and it's gonna be an extremely fun time. Fuck you if you spend your time ragging on people trying to enjoy their lives.
