JK! 😘❤️ can't wait to see what happens next!
Too Much to Lose | Rooster x Reader
Summary: Leaving for deployments had always been rough, but then Bradley met you, and the time apart and risk involved made the ache even stronger. But nothing felt quite as isolating and scary as acknowledging that he had to leave his pregnant wife with an uncertain future. Now more than ever, he had too much to lose.
Warnings: Angst, panic attack, mentions of smut, pregnancy topics
Length: 2300 words
Pairing: Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw x Female Reader
This was written to accompany my series Is It Working For You? along with a bunch of my one-shots and other series, but it can be read on its own! Check my masterlist for the reading order.
Tumblr media
Bradley hated that he felt like he was going through the motions. You'd been clinging to him all day long, your eyes always on the verge of tears. His bags were packed, his flight would leave tomorrow morning, and there was nothing left for him to do at this point except wait. Wait for your tears to spill over. Wait for one last look at you for who knows how long. Wait for the official start of another deployment.
Getting hard for you was not the problem. Your lips were on his body, and his name was the only word you seemed capable of saying. Nothing ever felt as good as your touch, and you always smelled sweet. Best of all, you were carrying his baby. But the doubt still crept in, even as his body rocked against yours, even as he filled you up. Because for Bradley, this felt exactly like those months when you and he had been desperately trying to get pregnant. It felt like the two of you were focusing on an uncertain outcome instead of each other.
"I love you, Roo."
You had just uttered the most perfect words in your state of bliss, but he couldn't fully accept them. Why did you love him? How the fuck could you? Your hands came up to caress his face, and he was completely helpless to do a god damn fucking thing besides come for you.
"Oh god," he grunted, practically crying as you kissed his scars before gradually going limp beneath him. You were smiling as you rolled onto your side, but instead of joining you for one last cuddle, he made his excuses to retreat to the bathroom.
Bradley splashed some cool water on his face and examined himself in the mirror. All he saw was someone who didn't know what he was doing. Someone who wasn't good enough for you. He hadn't felt this way a few days ago, rather he'd been absorbed with shopping for the baby. But the fear started to creep in around the edges today, and now it felt like it could strangle him if he let it.
Leaving home in this state could only spell disaster, but he couldn't shake it. At least when he finally managed to walk back into the bedroom, you were asleep on his pillow with one leg under the blanket and one on top. You could always make him smile, but this time when he did, he thought about what would happen next if he didn't come back. What would happen if he was no longer here to claim that pillow as his own.
He checked his will a few days ago, and the thing was ironclad. It all went to you. Every last penny and possession. But that wasn't what had him rattled. Everything was ten times more exciting and also ten times scarier with the baby on the way. He had too much to lose.
He kissed your forehead and then your belly, and he pulled the blanket over both of your legs, and then he went out to the living room with Tramp at his heels. The house still smelled delicious; you'd made him Marry Me Rooster and lemon cupcakes for dinner. You always pulled out the stops when he was leaving, and he loved you for it. But what the fuck were you getting in return?
He grabbed his phone from where he'd left it on the kitchen counter. You and he had been sharing a plate of dinner while he started to consider what your life would be like without him. You'd have the baby here with you, but you'd really be alone. It was too hard to breathe while he thought about it, so he unlocked his phone and dialed the only person who wouldn't think he'd gone completely off the deep end with his request.
"Bradshaw. Shouldn't you be enjoying your wife before you fly off into the sunset?"
"Hangman," he rasped, walking to the couch and collapsing down onto it. "I need to talk to you."
There was a brief pause before Jake said, "I'm all ears."
Bradley cleared his throat, feeling like an absolute idiot as he said, "I bought a jungle gym playset for my backyard. A really big one. For the baby."
Jake hummed and said, "Right." And somehow that was enough to make Bradley keep going.
"It's on pallets. On my driveway. There's an instruction book on top of my refrigerator. Everything should be here."
"Okay," Jake said quietly.
Bradley swallowed and swallowed, his throat burning as he managed to force out the rest of the words. "If anything happens to me, I need you to... build it."
The only thing he could hear was Jake's soft breathing before he muttered, "Shit."
Bradley ran his palm back and forth over his face as tears streaked down his cheeks. "Hangman. I need you to promise. I need that fucking thing in the yard."
"Yeah," Jake grunted. "Yeah, I promise."
Bradley sucked in a deep breath before he added, "And I need you to promise to take care of her. Take care of them. Make sure she knows you're around if they need something. Make sure she knows she can go to you and Cat for help."
There was no way to tell if the barely controlled sobs were his own or Jake's as he held the phone tighter to his ear, waiting for an answer. "Yeah, Rooster. I'll take care of Angel. I promise."
Bradley managed to choke out two words before ending the call. "Thank you." His phone fell from his hand onto the floor, and he curled up on his side. He thought about his dad. Goose died during a training exercise. If the most basic parts of Bradley's job could become deadly, he was honestly tempting fate at this point. Was this still the right thing to do? With a baby on the way? He wasn't so sure anymore.
Both of his parents were gone before he was an adult. If he made it just a few more years, he would live to be older than either of them had. This wasn't the first time he'd thought about that number, but right now, he was having a hard time catching his breath.
Forty. Carole died when she was forty years old.
Thirty-seven. Bradley was just three years away.
"Fuck," he gasped as he rolled onto his back, pressing the heels of his hands to his eyes. He was nauseous and dizzy, and his chest was aching like there was something pressing down on him. Something heavy. He shouldn't leave you alone now, because he might never come back. He might never get to meet the Nugget who he was already so in love with. The baby might never have a dad at all, but at least Bradley got to have one of those for a short time. He could remember little bits of how it felt when Nick Bradshaw picked him up, and the soft laughter in his voice when he read a bedtime story. But the Nugget deserved more than that. This baby deserved everything, including a dad who was already so devoted that it hurt. A perfect mom and a loving dad, just like Bradley had once upon a time.
He could feel Tramp licking his elbow and whimpering, but he couldn't open his eyes. He couldn't move at all. He needed to catch his breath. He started counting in his head but couldn't keep track of how far he'd gotten. He wanted to meet his kid. He needed to.
"Bradley?"
Your voice was the most perfect sound in the world, and when you spoke his name, he had a visceral reaction to it. Then your hand was on his cheek, and the heavy feeling lifted away a little bit.
"Oh, Bradley."
You replaced your hand with your lips, and he could feel how warm you were as your body came to rest on his. Your voice and touch invaded him in place of that terrifying weight on his chest. He felt safer because it was you. And the baby, too. When he opened his eyes, you looked concerned, and he hated to be the cause of that.
His voice didn't sound like his own, but you looked relieved as he said, "Sweetheart."
All he could focus on was the steady stroking of your fingers through his hair and your lips on his. "Tell me what's wrong, Roo," you whispered between soft kisses. "Talk to me."
He wasn't sure how long it took or how you managed to do it, but he ended up sitting on the couch with you curled up in his lap, ready to talk. Your cheek was resting against his heart, and his hand was under his old gym shirt that you were wearing, pressed to your belly. He wanted to tell you everything he was thinking. He wanted you to understand. But all he could say was, "I'm scared."
You nodded and hummed softly. "Me too."
When he wrapped his arms around you and pulled you in tighter, he asked, "Then why do I keep doing this? The last thing I'd ever want to do is scare you."
Your fingers found their way back up into his hair. "It's scarier this time, because of the baby," you whispered. "But you're an amazing pilot, and you love flying, and that's important, too."
"Not as important as you," he swore immediately. "Never as important as the Nugget. I just don't know if the risk is worth it anymore." He swallowed hard but let the tears slide down his cheeks again. "What if I burn in or get shot down before the baby is even born? Then what? Because I had no fucking clue until pretty recently how badly I want to be a dad."
"Come here," you whispered, your arms winding around his neck as you straddled his hips. You didn't seem alarmed by this conversation as you ran the tip of your nose back and forth along his cheek, letting him get used to feeling calm again. "It's all risky, Roo. All of it. We've talked about it before, and the facts are never going to change. But being married to you is worth it. Having to figure out how to potentially live without you is a risk I'm willing to take for the chance to be with you now."
"Fuck," he whispered, melting into your touch.
"You're worth everything," you told him sincerely. "Getting to hold you right now is worth every bad feeling that might come later."
All he could do was nod, because he felt exactly the same way about you. But there was another layer. Another wrinkle. It was with a steadier voice that he managed to say, "I don't want to end up like my parents. Or worse... I don't want to miss the chance to meet the baby altogether."
You leaned away from him a little bit, running your knuckles gently along his cheek. "You promised me you would always fight for the chance to come home again."
"Always. Please, don't ever doubt that I will fight until my last breath, Baby Girl."
Now you had tears in your eyes. "I never knew I could feel this loved. And you've already given the Nugget so much of yourself through your notebooks and your little private conversations with my belly where you pretend I can't hear you." Bradley laughed as you touched his face and neck. You kissed his forehead and whispered, "He or she is going to be just like you. I can tell already. And you'll fight your way back home to find out for sure."
"I will," he promised, throat tight with love instead of fear this time. "God, I fucking adore you."
As he ran his thumb around the diamond in your engagement ring which once belonged to his mother, you said, "I know it."
Twenty minutes later, once Bradley felt almost completely calm again, you stood and disappeared into the kitchen. He missed your warmth immediately. It was late now, and he knew you both needed to get a good night of sleep, but you insisted you knew what else would make him feel better. Just when he was about to say that the only thing he wanted to do was hold you in bed, you returned with a plate and a steaming mug.
You settled onto his lap again, so certain that was where you belonged and where he always wanted you. He took a sip of the tea while you nibbled on the lemon cupcake, then you held it up to his lips for him to take a bite. He ate half of it in one go, making you smile.
When you took another nibble, he whispered, "I'll be home in no time. Back with my perfect wife. My family."
You gently shoved the rest of the cupcake into his mouth as you smiled and said, "We'll be here waiting for you."
You started kissing his scars as he chewed and muttered, "Let's go to bed, Sweetheart."
He was still thinking about his brief conversation with Jake as you stretched out on your back and let him run one big hand along your belly and down to your tattoo. Bradley touched you everywhere, memorizing the softness and flawless warmth of your body with the Nugget. He would come back home to this because he had to. He would be here to construct the jungle gym himself. There was simply no other choice.
"I love you both."
---------------------------
That phone call between Bradley and Jake made me cry. Bradley has been dreaming of that jungle gym playset in the backyard for so long, he needs the guarantee that it will happen for his Nugget even if he's not there to see it through to the end. BG always knows what to do when he's struggling, but she's not going to be there to take care of him while he's deployed. In the next one-shot, we'll see how Bradley and Payback are holding up while away. Thanks @mak-32 and @beyondthesefourwalls and everyone who reads and interacts and makes this pairing so fun to write!

I don't even have words...
Unbroken
Part 5
(previous part here, next part here)
Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw x You
Summary: You and Jake have the conversation that’s been a long time coming. Bradley feels terrible and makes it up to you.
Tumblr media
Warnings: Warnings: 18+ MDNI! Smut, oral (f receiving), etc.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“You were pregnant?”
You nod, tears filling your eyes at the hurt reflecting back at you in Jake’s.
“The summer after high school? That’s what happened? Why you changed so much?” He asks, tears starting to fill his too.
You nod again.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” He asks, voice breaking.
“Bradley, will you help me get supper on the table?” Charlie asks, coming up the stairs with Cash.
Bradley nods but hesitates at the door. “Em…Jake, I’m so sorry.”
“It’s okay, you had no way of knowing,” you assure him with a small smile.
You take Jake’s hand and lead him to the steps, away from the broken glass.
“Em, why didn’t you tell me?” Jake repeats.
“Because you would’ve been on the first flight home,” you sigh, knowing what he’s going to say.
“Damn right I would’ve,” Jake responds, confirming the exact reason you didn’t tell him.
“But you were in the middle of flight school, I didn’t want to distract you from that, Jake. I couldn’t. My dreams were circling the drain and I wasn’t going to see yours do the same.”
He just shakes his head, knowing it’s not worth the fight. “Can you start from the beginning?”
So you do. You tell him the same thing you told Charlie and Bradley.
“Stupid fuck probably didn’t put the rubber on right,” he shakes his head when you tell him that you were safe, making you laugh.
“Fuck, Em,” he says shakily, wrapping his arm around your shoulder and crying with you when you tell him that you lost the baby.
“Atta girl,” he squeezes your shoulder when you tell him how you slapped Chet stupid.
“I planned on telling you when you came home, but by that time I couldn’t even think about it without feeling like I was suffocating. I didn’t talk about it, I just pushed all those feelings down, along with most other feelings. I started seeing a therapist about a year ago and it’s really helped,” you say.
“Makes sense why you haven’t dated since,” he nods. “Why did you tell Bradley and not me? I assume Charlie knows too,” he sighs.
You hate how much this is hurting him.
“I told Charlie the night before the wedding. Don’t be mad at her, okay? I asked her not to say anything because I wanted to be the one to tell you. I’ve been meaning to when you got back from the honeymoon but you’ve been so happy and we’ve both been busy and…I’ve just been avoiding the conversation,” you admit. “Telling Bradley was unexpected. We were starting to, uh…get intimate-“
“Gross,” Jake grimaces.
“I’ll spare you the details,” you laugh. “But I haven’t been with anyone since Chet and I got nervous. I ended up telling him everything. God, he probably feels horrible. I never told him you didn’t know. How did it even come up?”
“He noticed Charlie’s not drinking and I told him there’s a chance she’s pregnant but it’s too early to tell,” he answers and you nod, Charlie told you she stopped taking her birth control. “He asked if I thought it’d be hard for you to see Charlie pregnant,” Jake answers and turns to you. “Will you be okay if she is?”
“I will,” you assure him with a smile. “I still struggle with the guilt and the ‘what if’s’ but that has nothing to do with you and Charlie. I’m so happy for you guys.”
“Thanks Em,” he says, watching the sunset. “It’ll happen for you too.”
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“So you and Bradshaw, huh?” He asks a few minutes later, breaking the comfortable silence.
“Yeah,” you can’t help but smile. “I really like him, Jake. I didn’t think I was capable of feeling this way about someone anymore.”
“He’s a good one, Em. Speaking of, we should probably put him out of his misery,” Jake says, rising.
“Yeah, let’s go,” you reply, taking his outstretched hand to help you to your feet.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
Charlie gives you a hesitant smile as she walks past you to find Jake. You nearly laugh at the look on Bradley’s face when you meet his eyes. He looks like he’s going to throw up, cry, or both.
“Emma, I’m so fucking sorry. I wasn’t thinking-“ he starts but you reach up to cup his jaw before shushing him with a kiss.
“It’s okay, really,” you promise when you pull back. “I never told you he didn’t know or to not say anything. That conversation was a long time coming and I’d been putting it off far too long.”
He still looks unsure as he nods. “Alright.”
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“So whatever happened to Chet? He never came back after that ACL tear, did he?” Jake asks as everyone finally starts to eat.
You shake your head and fill Bradley in. “2 plays into his college debut game, Chet tore his ACL. He had to have surgery and missed the rest of the season. Ended up getting academically suspended by the end of his freshman year.”
“Chet always was dumber than a box of rocks,” Jake mutters.
“Ain’t that the truth,” you agree. “He moved back and began working for his dad at the bank over in Bishop. He started dating Lydia Hughes, and got married about a year later,” you laugh.
“Wait, he married Lydia Chlamydia?” Jake asks, horrified.
“She didn’t have the best reputation,” Charlie tells Bradley who’s bewildered by the nickname.
“No, she didn’t, and for good reason,” you say. “Chet caught her in bed with his dad before the ink on the marriage certificate was dry.”
“What?!” Jake exclaims before bursting into laughter.
“That’s why they divorced?! Oh my God! Okay, that makes sense why his dad picked up and left too,” Charlie says, laughing too.
“Yup. It was all pretty hush-hush at the time,” you smile, taking a sip of your beer. “Not gonna lie, it felt pretty damn good to hear he got what he had coming.”
“Still not good enough,” Jake mutters. “He’s a dead man if I ever see him again.”
“Hear hear,” Bradley agrees, clinking his bottle to Jake’s when he tips it Bradley’s way.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“You sure you don’t mind giving Bradley a ride back to his place?” Jake asks, yawning from his place on the couch.
You bite your lip as you share a look with Charlie.
“She doesn’t mind, trust me,” Charlie laughs.
“Gross,” Jake shudders before he stands up to wrap you a bear hug. “Love you kiddo. Please, please don’t keep something like that from me again, okay? I’ll always be here for you.”
“I won’t,” you promise. “I love you too.”
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“My place first?” You confirm the earlier plan as you shift the truck into reverse.
“Still want me to?” Bradley asks, looking like a kicked puppy.
“Yes!” You laugh. “Please stop beating yourself up.”
“I’ll try. I just feel terrible,” he sighs.
“Don’t,” you reply, reaching over to place your hand on his thigh. “You can make it up to me when we get to my place if it’ll make you feel better?”
“I think that’d make me feel a lot better,” he sighs as your hand begins to circle higher on his thigh.
“I think so too,” you agree, barely brushing your fingertips over his erection straining against his jeans.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“I didn’t tell how you good you look yet,” Bradley murmurs as his hands slide over your hips. He brushes your hair aside before kissing the back of your neck as you try to unlock the front door. “Couldn’t keep my eyes off you all night.”
You drop your keys as you shiver. He inhales sharply and his hands tighten as you press your ass against his hard-on when you bend to over pick them up.
One of Bradley’s hands slides below your belly button as you straighten up and he pulls you back further, groaning softly into your ear when you begin slowly grind your hips.
“Feel what you do to me?” He breathes, his hand moving down further, but not yet touching where you want him most. “I’m constantly fighting this around you,” he punctuates it with a gentle thrust of his hips. “Shit, even when I’m not. When I hear your laugh, see your pretty smile, read your texts. I’m crazy about you, Em.”
“I feel the same way, Bradley. I can’t stop thinking about you,” you admit breathily while you attempt the lock.
He takes the keys from your trembling hands and unlocks it as his lips find your neck again.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
The two of you make it inside and you lead him to your bedroom. He’s kissing you before the nervousness can creep in.
“No underwear?” Bradley rasps as he pulls your leggings off after laying you down, already ridding you of your shirt and bra.
You shake your head and fight the urge to cover yourself as he rises to stand at the foot of the bed to take in your naked form.
“You’re so beautiful,” he whispers, his eyes on yours; not on your body.
“Thank you,” you say, giving him a shy smile.
He whips his shirt over his head and unbuttons his jeans, pushing them down before crawling over you and capturing your lips in a deep kiss.
You gasp and he groans when his cock settles between your legs, only the thin fabric barrier of his boxer-briefs separates you.
You whine when he pulls away, but it’s only for a second before he latches onto your nipple, teasing the other with his fingers.
He sucks gently before asking, “Do you like more of a soft touch here? Or rough?”
Your hands fly into his hair as he grazes his teeth over the sensitive bud and pinches the other. “Just like that,” you answer with a gasp.
He does it again and again, alternating with soft caresses and rough touches. You’re soaked and he hasn’t even touched below the waist.
“Please, Bradley,” you beg, panting when the want between your legs becomes unbearable.
“What do you want, honey?” He asks, not giving you a chance to answer before capturing the other overstimulated nipple with his mouth, flicking it with his tongue before releasing it with a pop. “My mouth on your pretty pussy?”
You nod eagerly, sighing in relief as he begins to his way there.
“You’re sure?” Bradley asks, pressing his lips to your trembling thighs.
“I’m sure-oh,” you moan, back arching as he licks into you for the first time.
His answering groan is downright sinful. “You taste so fucking good,” he murmurs against you.
You look down at him and whimper; eyes closed in bliss, hands gripping your hips, his tight ass flexing as he ruts into the mattress, trying to find friction.
He’s enjoying this as much as you.
“Oh, just like that,” you sigh; His mustache brushing your clit as his tongue fucks you. “Bradl-I…I’m gonna-“
Your hands find his hair again, tugging as your orgasm washes over you with a satisfied hum; Bradlwy making a similar noise between your thighs.
“Good?” He asks, sounding out of breath.
“Uh huh,” you reply, sated.
“Mmm, good,” he rumbles and lowers his head.
“Wha-again?” You ask, jolting when he finds your clit again, this time with his tongue.
“Mhmm,” he hums against you, his hips flexing into the bed faster.
“Oh…oh God,” you gasp when he brings his hand up and presses a finger inside as his tongue mimics on your clit what it was doing earlier to your nipples.
“Fuck,” he breathes, strained, and he pushes another finger in. “You’re so tight.”
You mewl when he curls them, zeroing in on your g-spot with the same rhythm as his hips.
Fireworks burst behind your closed lids and your ears ring when he gently sucks on your clit; an earth-shattering orgasm hits you so fast and hard it takes your breath away.
You’re so wrapped up in it that you don’t even notice the way your thighs are squeezing Bradley or his guttural groan that follows.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“Wow,” you whisper, trying to muster up the energy to open your eyes.
“You’re incredible,” Bradley murmurs as he kisses his way back up your body.
“I haven’t even gotten you off yet,” you laugh breathlessly as he lays beside you.
“Uh, you did actually,” he replies, embarrassment lacing his tone.
“I-what?” You ask, opening your eyes to his flushed face.
His eyes flick down and yours follow to the wet spot staining the front of his boxer-briefs.
He came just from eating you out.

Every day was the same now. Every morning started out with a hopeful feeling in your chest. Your engagement ring was still noticeable on your finger, although you figured that would fade with time as it became a permanent fixture. At first, you woke up to the delicious feeling of being pregnant and engaged to Bradley, but when you rolled over to reach for him, the rest of the bed was cold. The covers were untouched. His pillow was still in the exact same place you left it when you made the bed yesterday.
Tears stung at your eyes. You knew exactly how many days he had been gone, because the updated number was practically all you could think about. The days had become a week. Then two. And now that hopeful feeling was starting to vanish only to be replaced by dread almost immediately after you cracked your eyes open.
You whispered, "I miss you," and climbed out of bed without even looking at the vacant side now. You started to dress in your scrubs without a smile on your face, and then you went into the bathroom which was completely silent. You thought that if you just had an inkling, the barest idea of when Bradley might be returning, you'd feel much better, but you had no clue.
You and Noah had only had one brief conversation with him over the phone. The connection had been pretty bad, and you knew someone was sitting right there with him monitoring every single word. He'd told you that much before his personal phone had been taken away from him the day he arrived. You had to pause as you put toothpaste on your toothbrush, because the tears were going to start if you didn't get yourself under control.
Bradley had hung up a few post-it notes around the house for you and Noah to find. Most of them were reminders of how much he loved you, but the one on the bathroom mirror took your breath away every time you saw it. It said April 25th with a heart around it. And above that'd, he'd drawn a crown. The fact that you had no idea how much of your pregnancy he was going to miss threw you off every single time. You ran your fingers over the note, but you didn't move it.
"Mommy?" Noah called out, and you heard him jump down from his bed. It was so obvious how much he missed his dad; he was extra clingy with you right now, even shedding a few tears now when you tried to drop him off before you went to work each day.
"I'm in the bathroom," you called out as best you could with your toothbrush still in your mouth. You opened the door so he could come in with you, and he immediately wrapped his arms around your thigh.
"Is it daycare today?"
You spit out the toothpaste and rinsed your mouth. "Yes, Sweet Noah. You have daycare today."
"I want to go to the park with you and Daddy."
That sounded so perfect, you wanted to scream. "As soon as Daddy comes home, we can all spend a whole day at the park. But not today." You didn't even want to tell him that you had to work an extra hour and a half and as a result would be picking him up later than usual. You agreed to cover some extra shifts all week long even though you were tired enough that you'd been passing out in bed right after Noah went to sleep each night.
When he sniffed and looked up at you with watery eyes, you could barely handle it. Bradley had been gone for less than three weeks, but you were already getting a little desperate. You knew you would feel like a failure if you reached out for help at this point, even though Natasha and Penny had both been texting with you to check in. Bradley even had Tracy emailing you in case you needed anything, and you couldn't decide whether you had to make more friends to get him off your back or simply be appreciative that he cared enough to set things up.
"I know," you whispered to Noah, running your fingers through his soft curls. "But we can make ants on logs later. And we can take Skittles for a nice walk." When you said her name, the pup appeared in the bathroom doorway, her brown eyes also a little sad without her favorite person at home.
"I'm hungry," Noah murmured against your scrub pants. You bent to scoop him up into your arms and carried him to the kitchen where you got breakfast ready for everyone. It was going to be a long day for you, and you'd been so wrapped up in your feelings, you almost forgot you were going to have to see Casey.
You groaned at the thought of her, and you immediately lost your appetite and scraped your eggs into the dish on the floor for Skittles to enjoy. After you packed yourself a lunch and got Noah ready, you realized you were kind of running late. Everything felt ten times harder when you had to do it all yourself.
"I don't know how Bradley managed," you whispered as you zipped down the block in your car. A soft smile played at your lips as you thought back to how adorably hopeless he had been when you first met him. He hadn't eaten a good meal in probably months before you started babysitting Noah for him. At least he could cook a little bit now, even if he still couldn't figure out how to use his phone.
When you took Noah inside his daycare, Casey's eyes were immediately glued to your ring as it shone in the sunlight. She slid the clipboard to you and watched you sign Noah in while you held his hand. Then you knelt down and kissed his cheek and whispered, "I'll pick you up later. I love you."
He smiled, and then you let Casey walk him inside. You stood there long enough to make sure he started to hang up his bag like you always did, and when she walked back out into the lobby, she was smirking. "Did Bradley leave you? He hasn't been here in weeks."
You rolled your eyes as you said, "He's deployed. We've been over this before."
She held up her hands in mock surrender. "I'm just saying, it kind of looks like he left you and Noah in the dust."
"In what world would that man leave Noah?" you practically shouted.
"That's true," she replied with a smile. "Bradley would never leave his adorable son, but I could see him ditching you and your make believe baby."
You rubbed your temples and took your phone out of your pocket to check the time. You'd barely make it to work before the first patient if you didn't leave right now, but you couldn't help yourself. "I'm done, Casey. I've had enough. Which of the owners is here today? Because I'm not going to listen to you talk to me like this for one more minute."
Her face went ghostly white and she muttered something that you couldn't quite make out. "Speak up," you snapped. "Or apologize to me and don't bother talking to me again unless it's completely necessary."
"Sorry."
"Great," you told her loudly. "Have a great day, and when I pick Noah up later, just keep your mouth shut."
You took in the stupid looking expression on her face before you turned to leave, storming out the door and across the parking lot to your car.
---------------------------
It didn't take Bradley long to get used to the sleek controls and seductive design of the sixth-generation fighter jet that everyone appropriately referred to as Shadowhawk. By the second morning on base in Yokosuka, Admiral Palmer was singing Bradley's praises. He showed up early and did as he was told, hoping to spend as much time in the air as he could each day.
It was an adrenaline rush every single time. He was going substantially faster than he ever did in a Super Hornet, and all of his readouts were being recorded. He had to pass a quick physical and stress test every morning before he was allowed to fly, and then he was hooked up to monitoring equipment and let loose. He and Shadowhawk were flying the same loop far out over the pacific ocean at insanely high altitudes, and each time he fell a little bit more in love with being in the air. He could maneuver through rolls and dive into an attack formation faster than he could even imagine.
When he was flying, it was easy enough to focus on the task at hand. He knew if he wasn't one hundred percent focused, it would be dangerous. He might not snuff out the launched missile in time with his flares or his guns. He might lose sight of his targets. But as soon as he had any sort of mental reprieve, he was thinking about you and Noah and Skittles and his bungalow tucked away on a side street in Coronado.
"Fuck," he muttered as he unloaded from Shadowhawk one day just as the sun was setting. He was drenched in sweat and exhausted, and all he could think about was taking a shower with you before dragging himself off to his king size bed that always smelled like wildflowers and falling asleep in your arms. He let the peripheral staff detach all of the cables and heart monitor from his flight suit before he found an officer who spoke English. "Is there time for me to make a phone call tonight?" he asked.
It was about three o'clock in the morning in California, and he knew he wouldn't be able to talk to Noah, but he was dying to hear your voice. He knew he'd wake you up, but the ache was so strong, he absolutely needed to if he could. He'd been allowed to make exactly one call so far, and that was already more than two weeks ago.
All he got in response to his question was a quick shake of his head. "Tomorrow," she responded. That's what they told him every day. The lack of communication felt like a prison sentence at times, but there wasn't much he could do but accept it. All of the data they were collecting as well as Shadowhawk itself were considered proprietary and top secret. He practically had to sign his life away every day before he was allowed to touch the thing.
"Tomorrow," he repeated. "But will it actually be tomorrow? Or does that mean a week from now?"
"Tomorrow," she said more firmly, and he thanked her quietly before heading up to the tower to debrief with the admirals. There wasn't much else he could do.
The next day was a lot more of the same, and the routine was starting to grate on his nerves now. The aircraft still felt incredible, beyond his wildest dreams. He was still happy to be here, but at the same time, he was ready to go home now. They weren't giving him any updates on the progress of this assignment or when it might end, so he just decided to approach Admiral Palmer directly.
"Sir, I'd really appreciate a ten minute phone call, if that can be arranged." Once again, it was the middle of the night for you, but Bradley needed it.
The older man eyed him closely and cleared his throat. "It's a liability, Lieutenant. I'm sure you can understand that."
Bradley felt his fingers flex into fists at his sides. "Sir, someone would be monitoring me the entire time. And I'm just asking to talk to my fiancée and my son. That's it. Any time of any day."
The answer of, "There's no guarantee," did not sit well with Bradley. He had to bite his lip until he was tasting blood to keep himself from talking out of order, but he was sure the other man could read the frustration on his face and in his posture. "Maybe a very brief call, but we could be wrapping up our preliminary testing on Shadowhawk any day now. Either way, I'm sure you'll be able to finish out this temporary assignment like a professional."
Bradley swallowed down every retort that came to his mind, saluted Admiral Palmer, and left for his tiny room in the barracks. But another week passed, and Bradley knew there was no end in sight. And perhaps no phone call either.
-------------------------
"Is this normal though?" you asked Natasha over the phone one night after Noah was in bed. You'd thought about taking a long bath, but you were so tired from working late almost every day, you could barely hold yourself up. You were already in bed at 8:45 with your phone pressed to your ear. "I haven't heard from Bradley in almost a month."
The words made a lump form in your throat. It was actually twenty-two and a half days since he'd called. You needed to hear his voice. Noah was asking for him nonstop, and he had missed your most recent checkup with your obstetrician. The whole thing had been such a blur during your lunch break without him there, and you wanted to show him the new ultrasounds.
"Well, I don't think this assignment is exactly normal, you know?" she replied. "On a regular deployment, you'd be able to talk to him almost weekly. But this is something else altogether."
You made a soft sound. There had to be a way to make the time pass faster. If you didn't have to get Noah by six o'clock every day, you would try to pick up more hours at work. Maybe this weekend you could start cleaning up the extra bedroom that you and Bradley decided would become the nursery. You already promised Noah that you'd take him shopping for a Halloween costume, so at least that would entertain him for a little while.
"Thanks, Natasha," you murmured to Bradley's best friend.
"Hey, if you need a little break this weekend, I'd be more than happy to come over and play with Noah on Saturday or Sunday," she said, and you sighed in relief.
"That actually sounds fantastic. I'll call you."
You ended the call a minute later, curling up in a ball of exhaustion as you tried to imagine where Bradley was and what he was doing. You were tired now as you tried to do the math to determine what time it was in Japan. Was he sixteen hours ahead of you? Something like that? You yawned and fell asleep with your phone on the pillow next to your head.
Then you heard your ringtone blaring in your ear, and you almost fell out of the bed as you realized your phone was so close to you. RESTRICTED CALLER. "Oh my god," you gasped, trying to answer the call while you saw that your battery was down to four percent because you never plugged it in. "Bradley?!"
"Princess."
"Bradley!" You climbed out of bed, your body immediately shivering as you were exposed to the cool air. Your nerves were frayed as you plugged your phone in and asked, "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, Baby. I'm so sorry I woke you up."
"It's okay!" you said, your voice sounding more like a sob as you sat on the floor. "I've been so worried about you."
His voice was a deep, familiar rumble as he said, "I've got five minutes. Tell me everything."
"We miss you, Daddy," you said, rubbing your hand low on your belly which was starting to feel a little tender as you got closer to thirteen weeks along. "Noah asks for you all the time. The baby looked good at the last appointment. But your best friend, Skittles, is barely holding it together."
"I missed your appointment," he said, his voice strained with emotion. "I should have been there."
"It's okay," you whispered. "We're doing okay." But you weren't. You and Noah thrived when you had his attention. You felt loved when he was home to hold you and whisper plans about the future until you fell asleep each night. "I just thought you'd be able to call more often."
"Me too," he said in a tone that sounded both annoyed and resigned.
"Do you know when you'll be home?" you asked in as hopeful a voice as you could manage.
"Soon, Princess. Soon. Now tell me everything about your appointment."
You gave him more details as you shifted around on the floor, and you told him that Noah painted a picture for him. Then you heard someone on his end of the call telling him that it was time to go, and you wanted to scream that it wasn't enough. But instead you let the tears fall down your cheeks, thankful that you at least knew he was safe.
"I love you, Bradley."
"I love you too, Princess. I'll be home before you know it."
You dried your tears and climbed back into bed, and even though you weren't able to fall asleep again, you felt so much better. Your imagination drifted to thoughts of the baby in the nursery, all of you curled up on the floor for story time together. You would start getting the room ready this weekend.
On Saturday, you took Noah to the Halloween warehouse store that seemed to pop up overnight. "You have to hold my hand," you reminded him as he reached for every single display in the crowded store. There were so many aisles, this would probably take up your entire morning with him. He was keeping a running list of options that he liked for trick-or-treating, and you had to keep reminding yourself not to check the price tags. You'd put whatever he wanted on your princess credit card and call it a day.
"Mommy, let's all be dinosaurs," he said, pointing to a costume in his size.
You glanced around the area and said, "They don't have any in my size. Can we pick something else?"
"I want you and Daddy to dress up, too," he whined, and you didn't want to have to tell him that you weren't sure if Bradley would be home in the next week and a half to accommodate that wish.
"Well, I will definitely dress up with you, okay? Let's pick something out where you and I can match."
But he wasn't going to be deterred. He was demanding that all three of you match along with Skittles. You walked around the entire store twice before you found an option that he agreed upon, and you were smiling as you gathered the costumes in all of the necessary sizes. "This is perfect, Sweet Noah," you said as you looked at the costume for Bradley and laughed. You just hoped he would be back in time to wear it. If not, maybe you could ask Maverick.
The sky was starting to look overcast, so you took Noah home for lunch and didn't feel too bad about keeping him inside for the afternoon, especially when it started raining. You set him up with his array of coloring books at the kitchen table and then went to investigate the extra bedroom. Nobody ever slept in there, so it was a bit dusty. There was basically no furniture besides the bed and an old desk, but it was cozy and perfect for what you had planned.
Your muscles were sore from standing at work, and you were so tired, but you started moving the bed anyway. You'd have to tell Dr. Kelly and the others that you were pregnant soon. It was time now, but you kept putting it off, enjoying the secret that only you and Bradley really knew about. Plus it still got under your skin a little bit when you considered that other people would have a knee jerk reaction to the timeframe of when you got engaged compared to when you got pregnant.
"It's none of their business," you whispered to yourself as you walked to the kitchen to check on Noah every few minutes. Then you went back to the bedroom and cleaned, moved things around and took measurements. "How big are cribs, anyway?" you mused before looking up some dimensions online. "Pretty big."
It took some creativity, but you thought you'd finally sorted out where everything should go. Then you moved Bradley's random junk from the closet to the attic, wiping the sweat from your face with each trip. You kicked your way through the boxes where you'd found the USB drive with the video he made with Meredith. At first you grimaced and thought you might cry, but then you remembered the way he had smashed the stupid thing to bits in the backyard. You wanted him to come home. You needed him to.
"Mommy?" Noah called out, luring you back into the kitchen. You were a mess, and when you noticed how much he was yawning, you silently rejoiced.
"It looks like you could use a nap," you said as you kissed the curls on top of his head. He scrambled up into your arms and hugged you, such a tiny reminder of his dad, and you carried him off to his room. After a few stories, he was asleep as the rain picked up a little bit, and you knew this would be the perfect time to take a shower.
You moved Skittles' bed into Noah's room temporarily, and coaxed her in with a treat. "Keep him company in case he wakes up," you whispered, and she walked around in a circle on the plush cushion before settling in. Her crooked, purple bow made you smile. Everything in this house made you smile and think about Bradley. You knew he'd have even more ideas about a theme for the nursery, but you started to scroll through some inspiration online as the shower warmed up for you.
The water ended up feeling better than you anticipated. Your shoulders were sore. Your hips were sore. Every part of your body was aching. It seemed it didn't matter how much you were sleeping, you were still exhausted all day long. Maybe Dr. Kelly would reduce your hours and give you a break. You thought about sneaking home one afternoon a week to take a long nap before going back out to pick Noah up. Then you thought about how Casey hadn't said a single word to you since you told her you were going to her boss. Then you smiled.
You were squeaky clean when you got dressed again in some old sweats and headed to the kitchen. Your stomach was growling, and you desperately wanted some coffee. "One cup is okay," you whispered, turning on Bradley's fancy machine while you made yourself a snack. You'd been meticulous about how much caffeine you were drinking, and Bradley helped by bringing home only decaf from the coffee shop. You downed the cup, and it was hot and delicious, and almost immediately you had to pee again.
Your doctor told you that was normal as the baby grew and started to stretch things out. You passed Noah's bedroom door where both he and Skittles were still sound asleep as the rain splattered against his window, and then you went to the bathroom. When you wiped, the toilet paper caught your eye, and your hand started to shake. Pink. Blood. Just a little bit, but there was blood.
"Oh no," you gasped, a dizzy spell overtaking your body. You'd read about this in your textbooks, and you knew it could happen, but you'd blocked it out of your mind when it came to yourself right now. You didn't want to be an example. You had to grip the toilet seat with one hand to keep steady as you wiped yourself again. There was more blood, a little bit less pink and more red this time.
Your own breathing was too loud. It was echoing through your mind and through the bathroom, and you wanted to throw up. You eased yourself onto the floor and started to panic. The baby. What if something was happening to the baby? "No," you whispered, trying to ground yourself. Using the edge of the tub, you pulled yourself slowly to your feet, your head spinning more with every inch you moved. "No," you said louder.
When you were standing on your own, you had yourself almost convinced you'd imagined it. You didn't feel bad. You were just a little sore. There couldn't be anything wrong. You reached for another piece of toilet paper and wiped, but the result was the same.
Where was your phone? Who were you supposed to call? You walked around in circles around the house while your heart thudded a sickening rhythm in your chest. You paused, unable to locate your phone and convinced you were going to throw up. After you backtracked to the extra bedroom, you found it and unlocked it.
Natasha's name was right there in your recent calls, and you tapped on it before you could even fathom what you were going to tell her.
"Hi," she said brightly when she eventually answered. "Want me to come over and play with Noah so you can take a break for a little bit?"
"Please," you gasped. "Please come over. Right now."
She must have sensed something in your voice, because hers turned serious as she assured you she was on her way. While you waited for her, you wiped yourself again and again before you made yourself wait in the living room instead of the bathroom. When she walked inside with dripping wet hair and concern on her face, you said, "Noah is still napping. I need to take myself to the emergency room."

Get to the hospital, Princess. This kind of scenario is very real and has happened to me. I will tread as carefully as I can. Please don't scream at me. We will hear from a doctor in the next chapter. Thanks @mak-32 and @beyondthesefourwalls

“So,” you sigh as you rush Bradley to the airport. “Where do we go from here?” The two of you slept longer than expected and had to hurry to get Bradley checked out of the hotel and then to the airport on time. As much as it needs to happen, you’ve been avoiding this conversation.
“Wherever you want” he teases but sighs, hesitating before he continues. “Jake told me about an instructing position that’s opening up here, well, in Kingsville. I applied and interviewed for it earlier this week…before we even met. I’ve been thinking about making a change for a while. I wasn’t sure if I should tell you because I haven’t gotten it yet and didn’t want to scare you by telling you I might be moving nearby.”
“I’m not scared,” you say without thinking, shocking yourself. “You’ve already proven that you respect my boundaries and I can’t imagine that would change if things don’t work out.”
“Never,” he promises, reaching for your hand.

You arrive at the airport shortly after.
“Let me know when you’re home safe, okay?” You tell him, surprised that you want to cry when Bradley wraps you in his arms.
“I will,” he murmurs, pressing a kiss to your hair before releasing you.
“Bye,” you say softly, watching him go.
He only makes it only a few steps before he turns around and walks back with intent.
“What-“ you start to ask in confusion but Bradley’s hands are in your hair and he’s kissing you. The hustle and bustle of the airport fades into a low hum as his lips press to yours. His heart pounds beneath your palm on his chest, and you can feel yours beating in a similar rhythm.
An announcement overhead has him pulling away reluctantly. “I better go, if I miss my flight I’ll miss work, and that doesn’t look good if I want to transfer.”
“Yeah, you better get a move on,” you agree. “Talk soon?”
“When I land,” he promises, kissing your forehead a final time.

Charlie: So did you take that mustache for a ride?
You laugh as you read Charlie’s text when you get back home. You reply after settling on the couch.
Emma: Aren’t you on your honeymoon?
Charlie: Your brother needed a break. 😒
Charlie: Kidding…we’re still an hour away from the cabin.
Emma: 🤢
Emma: And no, we didn’t do anything…he was more than willing but I panicked when he attempted it because Chet never went down on me. I actually ended up telling him everything.
Charlie: That’s not necessarily a bad thing though, right? How did he react? What did he say?
Emma: It’s not…but with the way he kissed me goodbye at the airport I wish we would’ve 🥵
Emma: He was so supportive, Char. He said he’s a patient man and I’m worth waiting for 🥹
Charlie: Damn. Told you he’s a sweetheart. Now what? Are you dating?
Emma: TBH… I’m not sure lol. He told me about applying for the job in Kingsville. We’re gonna see what happens.
Charlie: Yeah😬 I knew he applied, but I wasn’t sure if I should say something or not. It wasn’t really my news to share.
Emma: No need to be sorry, you’re right. I hope he gets it. I think I’d like having him around.
Charlie: Me too🤞🏻I’m gonna let you go. Pretty sure we’re lost.
Emma: Let me guess, Jake refused to use GPS? Mr. “I can read a map.”
Charlie: You know it 🙄
Emma: Hey, you married him 🤷🏼‍♀️
Charlie: What he lacks in directional skills, he makes up for in bed.
Emma: Gross 🤢
Charlie: Haha. Loveeeee you 😘
Emma: Love you too.

An hour later, your phone vibrates again, this time it’s Bradley.
Bradley: Hey, just got home.
Emma: How was the flight?
Bradley: Good, I think. I slept most of it. The flight attendant did wake me up once because I guess I was snoring pretty loud. Maybe that’s why no one ever wants to bunk with me because of it.
Emma: Shouldn’t be a problem, I’m a heavy sleeper.
Bradley: Are you implying I can sleep by you again? 😏
Emma: …maybe.
Bradley: Yes! 🙌. I’ll take it.
You laugh, texting back and forth for a while but soon you’re yawning and tomorrow is an early day. You let him go and get ready for bed, falling asleep again with a smile.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
The next few days pass quickly as you’re busy at work catching up on the days you missed the previous week. But you feel like a teenager again, checking your phone any chance you get, texting back and forth in the little spare time the two of you get between your busy schedules.
You’re monitoring a laboring mare when your phone rings late morning more than halfway through the week. You swipe to connect without looking, figuring it’s either another client or the office due to the time.
“Hi, this Dr. Seresin,” you answer on autopilot.
“Hey, it’s Bradley. I got the job!” He says excitedly.
Your stomach flips like you’re on a rollercoaster.
“Oh my God, Bradley! Congratulations! I’m so happy for you,” you say, beaming. “I’m selfishly happy for me too.”
“Yeah?” He asks, hopeful.
“Yeah. I am,” you confirm. “When do you start? What’d Jake say? What did-what’s his name…Cyclone? I think…what Cyclone say?”
“Uh…I’m not sure,” he laughs. “I just got off the phone with the CO there. You’re the first person I called.”
“I’m the first person you called?” You can’t help but repeat him as your heart flutters in your chest.
“Yeah. Didn’t even think about it. Oh shit, you’re probably working. I’m sorr-“
“I’m glad you called,” you cut him off with a laugh. “It’s fine, I’m just monitoring a pregnant horse.”
“Okay…good. Wow,” he says, chuckling. “I’m moving to Texas.”
“I can’t wait,” you say honestly, heart still feeling out of control.
“Me either,” he replies. “I’ll let you go so I can go talk to Cyclone. I’ll talk to you later?”
“Yeah, I’ll give you a call when I’m done here,” you reply, hanging up with a smile after he says goodbye.

You send Bradley the selfie you snapped with the foal a few hours later when you get home.
Emma: This pretty girl gave her mama some trouble but they were both doing fine when I left. I’m gonna hop in the shower quick, but I’ll call you when I’m done.
You shower quickly, anxious to find out the details of Bradley’s new job.
You smile when you get out at his reply.
Bradley: She is pretty darn cute.
Bradley: But her doctor’s cuter.
You call him as you head to your room to get dressed.
“Hey,” he answers after a few rings.
“You okay?” You ask, noticing he sounds out of breath.
“Yeah,” he answers. “Why?”
“You sound out of breath,” you laugh, towel-drying your hair and accidentally knocking your phone to the floor. “Oops. I’m drying my hair and dropped my phone.”
“No, I’m good,” he replies hurriedly. “That was a fast shower.”
“Yeah, I was excited to hear more about your job. Figured I could get dressed while we talked.”
“You’re naked?” He asks hoarsely.
“I am,” you confirm, but his tone stills your hands drying your hair. “Why?”
“No reason,” he replies quickly. Too quickly.
“Bradley, were you touching yourself?” You ask, connecting the dots.
“What? No,” he lies with a nervous chuckle.
“I may be bad at telling a lie, but I am good at catching someone in one,” you respond lowly. “It’s okay, you can keep going.”
“I wasn’t-okay, I was,” he admits with a sigh before he tries to change the subject. “But I’m not anymore. I want to hear about your day.”
“And I want to hear you touch yourself,” you reply, lying back on your bed with a sigh of your own. “Maybe I’ll join you.”
“Fuck,” he groans throatily, and arousal echos between your legs. “Seriously?”
“Mhmm,” you answer huskily as your hand trails down your body. “What were you thinking about?”
“You,” he admits. “I can’t you off my mind, Em. Your shirt was sticking to you and I could see your nipples were hard in the picture you sent me. I know that’s not why you sent it and you probably didn’t even notice and I feel like a fucking pervert-“
You laugh but it turns into a moan when your fingers brush over your clit. “I wondered if you’d notice that.”
“You little minx,” he chuckles breathlessly. “I definitely noticed. Then you said you were getting in the shower, and I couldn’t help picturing you naked and what I can’t wait to do to you.”
“What do you want to do?” You ask, out of breath too.
“Everything,” he exhales, and you can hear the lewd, yet sexy sound of him jerking himself off. “Anything. I can’t wait to touch you again. I’d start by playing with your pretty nipples. Did that feel good?”
“So good,” you moan, teasing one the same way he did with the hand not between your legs.
“Wonder if I can get you off just by doing that,” he muses. “But what I want most is to get my mouth on you.”
“I…I want that too,” you admit, gasping when you finally press a finger inside. “I’ve been thinking about it every time I’ve touched myself since you left.”
“Oh God,” he rasps. “I’ve been thinking about it too. Imagining how good you’ll taste, how good I can make you feel, wondering if you’ll pull my hair or suffocate me with those strong thighs as you cum,” you can hear the smile in his voice as he pictures it. “Then I’ll do it again and again, as many times as I can get you off before you’re pushing me away.”
“Yes, yes…I want that. Please?” You whimper as you feel yourself getting close. You begin to curl your fingers into your g-spot while grinding your clit against your palm.
“‘Course honey. Can’t wait to make you feel good,” he replies. “God, I can hear how wet you are. Tell me you’re close.”
“I am,” you say. “I-I’m…sofuckingclose” you whine as you approach the edge.
“Emma, me-I’m cum-fuck!” Bradley stutters before groaning lowly. The heady sound of his release pushes you over too with a surprised gasp.
“That’s…the first time I’ve ever had an orgasm with another person,” you say softly when you come down.
“That’s so hot,” he replies.
“If it was that good over the phone, I can’t imagine how it’ll be when you’re here,” you smile, still out of breath.
He just chuckles.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
An hour later, you let him go since he’s got an earlier morning than you.
You smile as you set down your phone and look up at the ceiling.
He’s moving here in just 3 weeks.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
The next 3 weeks fly by and as much as you want to be the one to pick him up from the airport, you have to work. Jake does instead and helps him get settled into the small, navy-issued apartment-at least with what he was able to bring on the plane. The Bronco and the rest of his belongings will be delivered next week.
You text Bradley as you head out the door.
Emma: I’m on my way finally. See you soon.
Bradley: Can’t wait. We’re on the porch waiting for you.
“Emma’s on her way,” Bradley tells Jake as they watch Charlie play fetch with Cash in the yard.
“Charlie’s not drinking?” Bradley asks, sipping his beer.
Jake shakes his head, smiling at her giggle when Cash finds two more tennis balls to stuff in his mouth. “She went off her birth control before the wedding though, so there’s a chance she’s pregnant. It’s too soon to tell though.”
“Oh man, that’d be awesome. I’ll babysit,” Bradley says slapping Jake on the back. He hesitates before he asks. “Do you think it’ll be hard on Emma? Seeing Charlie pregnant?”
“I don’t think so. As far as I know, she can’t wait to be an aunt. Why?” Jake asks.
“Just wondering, 'cause you know…everything that happened with her and Chet. It wasn’t her fault, but I think she still feels a lot of guilt from losing the baby,” Bradley says, standing when he sees your truck pull in.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“Hey,” you beam as you walk up the driveway, giving Bradley a once-over. “You look good.”
“Thanks, so do-“ Bradley starts to reply but you both startle from the sound of glass shattering.
“Ya lush. How many have you had?” You joke, bending down to pick up the broken pieces of the beer bottle Jake dropped.
“Jake? What’s wrong?” Charlie asks as she comes up behind you.
You glance up and your hands pause your cleaning efforts. He’s pale as a ghost.
“Are you okay-” you ask, but your heart stops when he interrupts.
“You were pregnant?”
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•

Poor Emma and Bradley getting cockblocked! Next time 😏😈
Unbroken
Part 2
(previous chapter here, next chapter here)
Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw x You
Summary: You and Bradley get to know each other
Tumblr media
Warnings: 18+ MDNI! A bit of smut, heavy petting (lol).
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
Time stands still when his lips meet yours; tentative at first, letting you know it’s okay to stop. But that’s the last thing on your mind. Your tongue licks at the seam of his lips and his hand pushes into your hair as he deepens it with a satisfied hum, kissing you with an unhurried tenderness.
Your hand grips his bicep in an attempt to not drift away when the dormant butterflies in your stomach unfurl their wings and take flight. A tidal wave of hope and relief washes over you at the long-gone feeling and you smile against his lips.
Maybe you’re not broken. Maybe you are still capable of feeling something.
Your phone rings; breaking the spell as it startles you apart.
“I better answer. It’s Charlie,” you say regrettably.
He hums in agreement. You swallow thickly when he fails his attempt at discretely adjusting himself in his jeans before he gathers the trash.
He does have a big cock.
“How’d it go at Anderson’s?” Charlie asks after you greet her.
“Uh…not great. But at least I don’t have to deal with him again,” you answer, watching Bradley walk the garbage to the receptacle.
“What happened? You okay?” Jake says from the background.
You repeat the morning’s events and Jake’s relief is palpable in his tone when he responds. “I’m glad Bradshaw went with you.”
“Me too,” you reply, smiling as he walks back up.
“Is he still with you?” Charlie asks.
“Yeah, I wanted to treat him to lunch as a thank you but he paid,” you roll your eyes good-naturedly. “I took him to Breakneck to eat.”
“Did you make out like teenagers?” She teases, knowing it was the town’s prime parking spot.
Your hesitation gives you away and Bradley grins sheepishly when he hears Charlie’s squeal.
“Oh my God, you so did!” She laughs and Jake groans in the background. “You shush, they’re both adults.”
“So what’s the plan for later?” You ask with a cringe, trying to change the subject.
“You know I’m gonna get the details later,” she says lowly. “We’re going to pick up the rest of the squad from the airport in about two hours, then meeting at Buck Wild around seven.”
“Giving the real Texas experience, huh?”
“You know it. You’ll have to ride the bull, show ‘em how it’s done.”
“We’ll see. Who knows, I might not be good at it anymore,” you reply, knowing it’s likely ingrained into your muscle memory from the college summers you worked there.
“Oh whatever,” she laughs. “See you at seven.”
“See ya,” you reply and look to Bradley. “Well, they know. I should’ve denied it but the Seresins are terrible liars.”
“It’s all good. I don’t regret it,” he answers, offering you a hand to get off the tailgate.
“Me either,” you smile, taking his hand before you hop down.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
Bradley can’t help but smile as you drive away from the hotel after dropping him off. It’s been a long time since a woman made him feel this way.
His phone buzzes as he flops on the bed.
Jake: Sounds like you got some explaining to do. 😒We’ll pick you up at 6:30.
Bradley: 👍
He sets down his phone and closes his eyes; exhausted from rising with the sun this morning from his excitement to see you.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“Em! Over here!” Jake calls when you walk into the bar later that evening, followed by a wolf whistle from Charlie.
You laugh, finding their group near the mechanical bullpen.
Introductions are made and the group razzes Jake for not inviting you to California before he moved back. You can tell already that you and Natasha are two peas in a pod.
Bradley makes his way over to your side.
“You look good,” he says over the loud country music as he hands you a beer, eyes lingering on your cleavage pushed up by the tight black leather vest you’re wearing.
“Thanks, so do you,” you reply, taking in his gray shirt and tight jeans.
He smiles. “I got the big brother talk from Jake on the way here, but not the one I anticipated.”
“Yeah? How so?”
“It’s usually the ‘hurt her and die’’; Jake told me he’d spare me that bullshit since you can obviously hold your own, but to be careful ‘cause he doesn’t want me to get hurt either,” he replies, leaning closer. “Why is that? Are you gonna hurt me?”
“Only if you ask me to,” you murmur hotly near his ear before you take a long pull of your beer.
Even in the dim lighting, you can see the flush rise up his neck.
You smirk at his reaction before calling out, “Who wants a shot?”
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
A few hours and drinks go by and you’re comfortably buzzed as you watch Jake’s friends take their turns on the bull. You laugh when Jake goes first and gets thrown off quickly (in his defense, the operator and your old boss, Willie, was gunning for him). Bob surprises himself and gets the longest ride, Natasha is a natural is a close second, poor Javy over-anticipates and ends up with a bloody nose.
Bradley’s next and your mouth goes dry as you imagine him fucking into you while you watch his hips follow the movements. He has a good run but loses his balance at a sharp turn and drops gracefully to the mat.
“Emma Lou, it’s your turn!” Charlie says, gently pushing you towards the entrance to the pen.
You roll your eyes good-naturedly and wink at Bradley as you pass by.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“Go easy on me, Willie! It’s been a long time,” you call as you straddle the bull.
“I’ll start slow, ease you into it before I start going hard,” he teases with a laugh. Out of the corner of your eye, you see Charlie elbow Bradley, as if he isn’t watching you like a hawk.
“Just the way I like it,” you blow him a kiss as the movement starts and your thighs tighten instinctively.
You smile when you hear the cheers. Your muscles do indeed remember as go around and around, up and down.
You slide off gracefully with a breathless laugh before you get dizzy but when you look up, Bradley’s gone.
“He went to the bathroom,” Charlie answers tipsily. “Quickly, I might add. As if he couldn’t watch you gyrate on that bull anymore.”
“Okay. I wasn’t gyrating, and I wasn’t gonna ask-“
“I saw you looking for him,” she teases. “I think you need to go to the bathroom too,” she says pushing you towards the bathrooms before she turns. “My turn!”
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
Bradley’s coming out of the bathroom as you walk down the long hallway.
“You okay? You’re all flushed,” you ask.
Yeah, just, uh…warm,” he replies.
“It gets hot in here. Wanna step outside? There’s a door at the end of the hall here.”
You lead him by the hand when he nods.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
It’s not much cooler outside but the fresh air is nice.
“That was fun. I don’t remember getting dizzy that fast though,” you smile, leaning back against the rough brick. “Gettin’ too old for that apparently.”
He just shakes his head with a chuckle as stands beside you. “You definitely know how to ride one.”
You hum in agreement, smirking at the innuendo. “Why’d you leave?”
He clears his throat and looks away. “I uh, had a…situation.”
You smirk when your eyes flick down. Looks like he still has one.
“So you got hard watching me ride that bull? Were you picturing me riding you like that?” You ask as you turn towards him, feeling him tense as you walk your fingers up his chest.
He swallows before meeting your eyes. “Yeah. I’ve been fighting a hard-on since we kissed.”
You grip his dog tags and pull him in for a kiss.
It’s hot and hungry with teeth and tongue; a stark contrast to the sweet one earlier.
A raspy groan leaves him when the hand not holding his dog tags slides from his hip to feel his cock straining against the denim.
“Mmm, you do have a big cock,” you moan, pulling back from his lips, liquid heat pooling between your thighs at the thought of taking all of him.
He smirks before his head falls back against the brick with a shudder as your mouth finds his neck; teasing the sensitive skin there with nips and licks.
His hand weaves through your hair and guides your head back up for a kiss as he pushes a thigh between yours.
You gasp when you rub yourself against him; the seam of your jeans putting pressure right where you need it.
You palm him faster as you get close to your first-ever orgasm with a man, the sounds he’s making spurring you on.
Your grip on his tags tightens to the point of pain as your orgasm approaches but it’s ripped away as the door swings open, startling you apart.
“Oh, sorry. Just came out here for a smoke. I can go around to the front though,” an older gentleman says, swaying in the light breeze.
“No it’s okay, we better get back,” you reply with a sigh full of regret.
Bradley looks equally disappointed as he agrees. “I’ll be in shortly.”
You nod and press a kiss to his cheek before you head back in to find everyone still near the bullpen. No one but Charlie noticing you had been gone.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
A/N: sorry for the delay, this chapter just did not want to come out. I’ll be going back to Jake and Charlie next (I think).
As always, any interaction is appreciated but I love hearing what you think in comments/reblogs.

Loving it! They're so cute together!
Unbroken
Part 1
Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw x You
Summary: You (Jake’s younger sister, Emma) were gutted by the way your first (and only) relationship ended, you’re not looking for anything but some fun. Bradley Bradshaw shows up for your older brother’s wedding and is eager to scratch your itch, but refuses to let it be a one-time thing. Will you let him mend the heart he didn’t break?
*Should be able to read alone but helps to read Jake and Charlie’s story, ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’ first.
Tumblr media
Warnings: 18+. MDNI! This chapter contains adult language and situations, future chapters will have smut. There’s probable veterinary inaccuracies-I work in people healthcare, not animal healthcare 🥴TW: unwanted/nonconsensual touching/advances. Please message me if you have questions.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“Thanks for letting me get ready here, I was afraid I wouldn’t have time to shower and get ready after that last call. Does this look okay?” You ask as you check your reflection in the mirror.
“No problem,” your oldest friend and soon-to-be sister-in-law, Charlie answers as she comes into the guest bedroom. “Emma Lou, you look gorgeous. That dress new?”
Charlie and Jake had invited you over for dinner to meet the other half of their wedding party, Bradley Bradshaw.
“Kind of? I got it at the beginning of last summer, just haven’t worn it yet. It’s too short for church and can’t really wear a dress when I’m wrangling farm animals,” you laugh.
“Well, you could if you really wanted too. I’m sure the farmers wouldn’t mind,” she teases.
“Ew,” you shudder, thinking about one client in particular you work with. “No thanks.
“Anderson still being gross?” Charlie asks, reading your mind.
“Uh-huh. Speaking of, I have to go out there tomorrow, he thinks one of his cows is pregnant,” you sigh, following her to the kitchen.
“Can’t Gav or Noah go instead?” She asks, washing her hands at the sink.
“I’m sure either would in a second,” you reply, wetting your hands too. “They’ve been nothing but great since I joined the practice, but I haven’t told them how he acts towards me. They’d fire him in an instant if they found out. It’s dumb, but I feel like he wins if he knows it bothers me. Plus he brings a lot of money into the practice. Ky comes with me too.”
Charlie frowns but then nods. “Okay, but be careful. He’s a dead man if he ever lays a hand on you,” she warns.
You don’t tell her that he already has.
“So this Bradshaw guy…Is he as hot in person as he is on Insta?” You ask, changing the subject.
“Nope,” she laughs, drying her hands. “Even hotter.”
“Off to a good start. Straight? Single?”
“Yes and yes. He told Jake he was going to ask me out but I think it was just to push Jake into telling me how he felt,” Charlie replies.
“Should’ve done that 10 years ago,” you mutter, smiling when she rolls her eyes.
“Bradley’s a sweetheart. I think you’d make a cute couple.”
It’s your turn to roll your eyes. “I’m just looking to get laid. My vibe isn’t cutting it anymore.”
“What’s not cutting it anymore?” Jake asks as he walks into the kitchen behind the two of you.
“My vibrator. I was telling Charlie I need to get laid,” you answer, forgetting Jake was picking Bradley up from his hotel on the way home.
Jake coughs awkwardly, “Bradshaw, this is my sister, Emma.”
You cringe, laughing as you turn around, refusing to be embarrassed.
Damn. Charlie wasn’t lying; he is hotter in person. Dressed in tight jeans with a Hawaiian shirt, unbuttoned to reveal his dog tags, and a white tank clinging to his defined chest.
“Couldn’t have led with that, Jake?” You glare at your older brother before turning to Bradley with a smile. “Nice to meet you.”
“You can call me Bradley, or Rooster if you want. Nice to meet you too,” he chuckles, cheeks flushed and his deep brown eyes twinkle with amusement as he takes your outstretched hand, making it look small. Your eyes flicker to his dog tags, wishing you could reach out and grab them to pull him in for a kiss.
“Who wants a beer?” Charlie asks, breaking the spell.
“Me, please, and thank you,” you answer as you reluctantly pull your hand away, wondering how his callouses would feel on other parts of your body.
“I’ll take one too, thanks,” he answers as his eyes do a perusal of you.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“So you’re a vet?” Bradley asks as you finish your singer around Jake and Charlie’s kitchen table.
“Yep. Large animals mostly, but I’ll cover the clinic if needed,” you reply.
“Emma was always the smart one,” Jake says, nudging you with his elbow.
“And the pretty one, and the sweet one, and the strong one…” you tease.
“Strong one is true,” Charlie agrees, squealing as Jake pinches her.
“I’ll never hear the end of it ‘cause Em beat me in arm wrestling once or twice,” Jake rolls his eyes.
“Once or twice?! I was 14 the last time you beat me,” you scoff as Charlie laughs in the background.
“Sounds like there needs to be a rematch,” Bradley says, sipping his beer.
“I’m in,” you shrug, looking at Jake.
“Fine.”
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
Everyone helps clear the table and load the dishwasher. It’s refreshing to see a man besides your dad and Jake help; you and Jake were raised without household gender roles but most of the men you know weren’t.
“Alright, on 3. Jake,” Charlie looks at him as she holds your intertwined hands. “No cheating.”
You laugh at the look he gives her.
“1, 2, 3!” Charlie says and releases your hands.
Jake’s stronger than you remember, but still not as strong as you. You let him push your arm a little, biting your lip to not laugh at the look of surprise that flashes over his face before you take a deep breath and push his arm down.
“Oh come on, you totally dropped your shoulder!” Jake argues.
“She did not, you’re just a sore loser,” Charlie laughs, kissing his cheek.”
“Gym muscle just doesn’t compare to farm muscle,” you grin, flexing your bicep.
“Guess not,” Bradley smiles.
Your phone rings and you frown when you see that it’s your tech, Ky.
“It’s work. Sorry, I gotta take this,” you excuse yourself to the front porch.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“Everything okay?” Jake asks when you come back inside.
“Yeah,” you nod. “It was my tech. His kid is sick so he won’t be with me tomorrow.”
“So you have to go to Anderson’s alone?” Charlie asks, remembering your conversation from earlier.
“Yep,” you sigh, flopping down on the couch.
“As in Jim Anderson? The pervy old fuck?” Jake asks, sitting forward on the couch.
“That’s the one. He thinks one of his heifers is pregnant and I’ve got to go take a look at her before the weekend.”
“Shit,” Jake sighs, thinking. “I’d go with you but we meet with the pastor tomorrow morning. I’ll call him and see if we can-“
“No. You’re getting married in a few days. I can handle it,” you assure him.
“I know you can,” Jake agrees, “But it’d make me feel better if you weren’t alone.
“I can go with you,” Bradley offers. “I was just going to hang out at the hotel while these guys were busy.”
“Oh, you don’t have to do that,” you shake your head. “It’s smelly and gross.”
“I don’t mind,” Bradley shrugs.
“He can use some of my old clothes and work boots,” Jake adds. “I know you can hold your own, Em, but I really don’t like that guy.”
Knowing Jake won’t drop it, you sigh and look at Bradley. “You really don’t mind?”
“Not at all. I think it’d be cool,” he smiles so genuinely that you can’t help but believe him.
“Okay. I’ll pick you up at 8.”
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
Bradley’s waiting outside the lobby holding two coffees when you pull up the next morning in your work truck. He looks good enough to eat, even if he is wearing your brother’s Wranglers and a Longhorn tee; your Alma mater.
“Two creams, no sugar,” Bradley says, handing a travel cup over. “I texted Jake how you take it,” he answers before you can ask.
You take a sip. “Oh it’s perfect, thank you. I was gonna treat you since you’re helping me out.”
“You’re saving me from a morning of scrolling on my phone, it’s the least I could do,” he replies. He’s practically vibrating in his seat as you pull out of the driveway.
“Excited?”
“Yeah,” he replies with a grin. “I’ve never been up close to a cow before”
You laugh. “Really?”
“Really. I grew up in the city.”
He tells you about it on the way; his dad died before he really knew him and much like Charlie, he was raised by a single mom that he lost to cancer too young.
“You don’t have any family left,” You realize softly.
“Mav’s like an uncle, plus Jake and the rest of the squad.”
“Jake’s not the best at expressing it, but he considers you a brother.”
“You’re telling me the guy who was in love with his best friend for 15 years but didn’t tell her isn’t good at expressing his feelings?” Bradley jokes.
“Crazy, right?” You laugh. “I hear you were gonna ask Charlie out.”
“I just told him that so he’d finally make a move. Yet he always says I’m snug on my perch.” Bradley sighs, rolling his eyes.
“Yeah…what is the story with your callsign?” You ask.
“My dad’s callsign was Goose, so it’s a nod to him. I’m also a morning person.”
“That’s it?” You ask as you turn into the driveway.
“…why?” He asks, avoiding your question and your eyes.
“I was just wondering if it means you have a big cock,” you answer as you grab your bag and hop out of the truck, eyes flicking to his groin before meeting his with a cheeky grin.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
Bradley catches up to you a minute later.
“Good. He’s not outside,” you observe out loud as you round the corner of the barn. “I’m assuming she’s the one in the holding chute. Maybe we’ll get lucky and be gone before he realizes I was here.”
“That bad, huh?”
Your blood boils as recall you the times he’s touched your ass, brushed your breasts, and the inappropriate comments he’s made.
“Yeah, that bad,” you reply, starting your exam.
You finish quickly, laughing when Bradley turns green as you palpate inside her.
“Jesus! Your whole fucking arm’s inside her!” He gulps, turning away and patting her side.
“We got a fetus,” you say pulling your arm free, and removing the lubricated sleeve from your arm. “I just need to give the mama-to-be some vaccines and we’re done.”
“You know, she’s actually kind of cute,” Bradley says, crouching on the other side of the chute to rub her head.
“The calves are even cuter,” you reply, patting her. “I’ll be ready in a second here. Just a heads up, she may flinch.”
You hum as you draw up the meds, not hearing the footsteps behind you. You jump when a hand brushes your backside.
“Didn’t even come to the door to say hello. You avoidin’ me?” Jim breathes into your ear, reeking of chewing tobacco and old sweat.
“Hi Jim. No, I’m just in a hurry. Have a lot to do with Jake’s wedding in a few days,” you reply, stepping to the side to get out of his reach, refusing to look at him.
“You can spare 5 minutes, can’t you? I never get you to myself,” he spits before entering your space again.
“No. I’m here to see the animals, not you-hey!” You yelp when he tugs your ponytail.
That’s the final straw.
He stumbles when you jerk your elbow back, knocking the wind out of him when it nails his solar plexus.
“Don’t ever fucking touch me again,” you seethe, quickly administering the injections and picking up your bag.
“Oh come on, honey. I was just playin’,” he wheezes, bent over. But he reaches for you again.
“You heard her. Don’t touch her. Or anyone else for that matter,” Bradley says calmly as he walks around the chute; but you can see his hand shaking out of the corner of your eye.
Jim gulps as he looks up at Bradley before nodding. “Alright. Sorry Em.”
“I’ll send you the bill and you can find your veterinary care elsewhere,” you reply, ignoring his apology.
Jim’s face goes white when Bradley murmurs something and slaps him on the back none too lightly before following you to the truck.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“So that was unprofessional,” you sigh as you back out of the driveway. “But fuck, it felt good.”
“It’s not unprofessional to protect yourself,” he replies. “You’re quite the woman, Emma.”
Your cheeks heat under his praise. “I really appreciate you coming with me and having my back.”
“You had it handled, but no problem.”
“Can I treat you to lunch? As a thank you,” you ask as you pull into the parking lot of his hotel. Not admitting to yourself that you just want more time with him.
“You don’t have to do that, but yeah, I’d like to get lunch with you.”
“Great! I’d take ya now, but I smell like a barn,” you smile. “I’ll pick ya back up in about an hour after I shower.”
“Can’t wait,” he winks, walking to the lobby after shutting the door.
He grins when he glances back, catching you watching him walk away in those tight Wranglers.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“Sorry I’m late. I ended up calling my coworkers to let them know what happened before Jim calls to complain.”
“No worries. How’d that go?” He asks, climbing into your personal (and much cleaner) truck.
“Good. They were furious,” you reply, continuing when he arches a brow. “But not at me, said they wish I would’ve told them earlier. Noah’s going to give him a call later. I’d love to be a fly on the wall during that conversation.”
“I’m glad they’ve got your back too.”
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
“Wait a minute, is there where Jake took Charlie on their first date?” Bradley asks when he sees the sign for the scenic outlook turn, handing you a fry from the bag of food you picked up from Ray’s-the town’s old carhop.
“Yeah, he told you about that?”
“I gave him the idea. Well…sort of,” he chuckles. “He was freaking out and didn’t know where to take her. Wanted it to be special, you know? So I asked what he would’ve done if they were in high school. I laughed when he told me he’d take girls to a car hop and find some place to park and fool around, but he said Charlie would like it.”
“She did. She would get so jealous when he’d take other girls out. It was so obvious. God, he’s an idiot,” you laugh, parking under the shade of a live oak.
You eat your lunch on the tailgate as he tells you about his dates when he was younger.
“…my mom tracked us down when I missed curfew and didn’t answer my cell, found us necking in the grocery store parking lot,” he smiles.
“I’m sure it wasn’t at the time, but that’s hilarious.”
“It was mortifying. That was the first and last date I got with Ashley Jones.”
“Thats too bad; if your mom hadn’t found you when she did, you might be married with 2.5 kids by now,” you tease, sipping your milkshake.
He laughs. “Nah, I’m happy with where I am at the moment.”
You smile, catching his insinuation when his eyes meet yours.
“How about you? You ever come out here and make out in a truck with a guy?”
“Nope. I’m Jake Seresin’s little sister, so every cop in town always had an eye on me. Fucking Jake,” you sigh dramatically. “It’s like a rite of passage around here and he ruined it for me.”
“You know, I’m a guy….and we’re sitting in a truck,” Bradley murmurs, brushing a strand of hair off your forehead.
“Yeah? You offering?” You ask, leaning in.
“I am,” he whispers before pressing his lips to yours.
•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.•
A/N: I worked on this way too longgggg. I originally liked it but now I’m not sure lol. I hope everything makes sense and you all like it 🥺

Yes yes yes! Can't wait for more of this! Bob deserves the best!
Covering the Classics Part 1 | Bob Floyd x OC
Summary: Bob is happy for his friends, but feeling like the fifth wheel every Saturday night has gotten old. Anna's main goal is to fly under the radar as she starts work at San Diego State University with her shiny, new graduate degree. She is convinced that the only company she needs is her own, but a specific flyer in the faculty lounge catches her interest.
Warnings: Fluff, angst, adult language, eventually 18+
Length: 2800 words
Pairing: Robert "Bob" Floyd x Female OC (this story is part of the Beer Boy/Sugar and Jake/Jessica universe)
Covering the Classics masterlist. Check my masterlist for more! Thank you to @mak-32 for the beautiful banner!
Tumblr media
Bob hated it when Natasha was deployed without him. He always ended up feeling like the fifth wheel now that Bradley was married and Jake was dating Jessica. Well, both of those were actually understatements. Bradley was devoted to his wife, and Jake was soppy now that Jessica moved in with him. And Bob's feelings on the matter were never more evident than on nights out at the Hard Deck.
Without fail, a girl or two or three would hit on one of the other guys, and they would deftly try to pawn said girl off on Bob only for the girl to look rather disappointed and kind of wander away. He just had that effect on women. He was a lot better with the written word than with the spoken, and something just didn't translate well for him when he was met face-to-face with an intriguing smile and an attractive body.
He groaned as he watched another woman head off in the direction of the bar as soon as he nervously stumbled his way through a sentence where he tried to introduce himself. How exactly was he supposed to compete with Jake Seresin anyway? Nobody who originally wanted him was going to settle for Bob.
"I got you more peanuts." Bob looked up to see Bradshaw's wife smiling at him and holding out a cup. Ever since he visited Chippy's bar, he didn't want to admit to Penny that hers weren't quite as good, but if someone went out of their way to bring him a cup full, he was going to eat them. And it was also nice of her to make sure he was included tonight while Mickey was babysitting his nephews.
"Thank you," he replied softly, and she patted his shoulder.
"I saw you talking to that girl?" she asked, nodding her head toward the bar. "She's really cute."
Bob shook his head as he looked down at his ginger ale. "I mean, yes, she was very pretty, but I wasn't really talking to her. She didn't want to talk to me, actually." He could feel the heat rising in his cheeks as he looked up at her from his stool. "She wanted to talk to Jake."
She rolled her eyes, and Bob kept his fingers occupied by cracking open a peanut. He craved the familiar intimacy he saw when he looked at his friends and their partners. Maybe jealousy wasn't the right word, but he always felt left out of the loop. They all knew something he didn't, and he craved to be on the inside with someone of his own.
"I'd choose you over Jake any day, Bob. You're smart, and I like talking to you."
He smiled at her as he said, "That may be the case, but you'd choose Bradley over me."
"You got me there," she said with a laugh as she kissed his cheek, making him avert his eyes to the floor. "I'm probably not the best judge of character though."
Bob looked toward where she was smiling now and saw Bradley with his hideous tie dye shirt and idiotic looking backwards baseball cap as Jessica slaughtered him in a game of pool. "Yes, you are," Bob told her quietly. Because as soon as Bradley looked at his wife, his expression became one of complete wonder.
"Sugar! Come here! Jessica is being mean to me again!"
She squeezed Bob's shoulder and then took him by the hand, bringing him along with her to the pool table. He blushed again as he looked a little nervously at Bradley, but everyone knew Bob was harmless. He was the one just drinking a ginger ale since he had to drive home.
"Baby," Bradley whined. "She won't even let me try to make a shot."
"That's not her being mean to you. That's her being better than you," his wife replied. "And what's the moral of the story again?"
"Women should never be underestimated," Bradley and Jake said in unison.
"That's right," Jessica said as she sunk the 8-ball into one of the corner pockets. "Especially ones who have a PhD and tenure." She handed her pool cue to Bradley and did a little dance. Then she reached into Bob's cup of peanuts and said, "Chippy's are better."
"They are," he agreed with a nod and a grin. He cleared his throat as Bradshaw's wife finally dropped his hand. "So I heard the new semester starts on Monday?"
"Yes," Jessica gushed as she fixed her glasses. "And Brian took a position at the community college, so this should be my best semester yet."
Bob already knew that Jake was relieved that his girlfriend would be going to work in a more comfortable environment every day, but it was nice to see how excited she was.
"You know what I was thinking?" Jessica asked Bradshaw's wife quietly. Bob wondered if he should step away and give them some privacy, but they both kept helping themselves to the cup of peanuts. "Maybe we could put something up on the notice board in the main building, kind of inviting the other female teachers at the school to have lunch together one day? I felt so embarrassed and excluded from things because of Brian, I just thought it might be nice for anyone else who feels marginalized?"
Bradley's wife nodded. "I think that's a great idea."
Bob listened to them for a few more minutes before he wished them good luck as they started back to school for the fall term, and then he excused himself for the night. He stood outside in the dark parking lot for a few minutes and listened to the sound of the ocean before he climbed into his truck and headed for his silent house.
--------------------------
"Dr. Webber."
Anna looked at the name placard on her office door and bounced up and down. "Dr. Webber," she read out loud again. She had the worst office on campus, no doubt about that. It was miniscule and kind of smelled like stale bread since it was so close to the cafeteria, but she loved it. All of the shelves were crammed with her books, and she could lock the rest of the world out when she needed a minute to herself. She just hoped that the tiny office wasn't a sign of bad things to come after San Diego State University willingly hired her less than a month before the start of the term.
In a matter of eight weeks, she had finally- finally- graduated with her PhD in English Literature and secured a job on the other side of the country. She sold everything she could think of, including her rings, and moved from gloomy New Jersey to a studio apartment in sunny southern California. Sure, all she had in her kitchen was a toaster oven and a mini fridge, but she was on her own. She had nobody to answer to. And she never would again.
"I guess everything is smaller here," Anna told herself as she locked her office door and went in search of the classroom where she would be holding the first lecture of her teaching career. She was too early for the class, but she was filled with nervous energy and decided that walking around would help.
She looked in classrooms and listened to a poetry lecture on the third floor. She found a really secluded ladies' bathroom as well as a reading nook. Eventually, she and her copy of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn managed to wander all the way to the main building where she found a faculty lounge.
It smelled like coffee, and there were snacks out on the counter, and everyone was talking in pairs or small groups. She should probably get to know her colleagues, but she also didn't mind the anonymity that came with observing everyone without engaging. She was good at that, and she'd spend too much time around people who needed to be in the spotlight all the time. As she reached for a donut with pink frosting, she saw a notice board across the room and went to take a look.
The hum of conversation around her was comforting as she read about a yoga class in the quad, alumni night, and a teacher appreciation banquet. Then her eyes caught on a single piece of paper with a plain black font. It wasn't flashy, and somehow it reminded her of a page from a favorite book.
WELCOME BACK FOR THE FALL SEMESTER, LADIES!
If you're interested in getting to know some other women who work on campus, let's meet for a friendly lunch on the first Tuesday of the term! Noon in the quad next to the weird tree.
Anna laughed. She knew where the quad was, but she wasn't sure which tree was the weird one. They actually all seemed a bit out of place to her since she wasn't used to living near palm trees. She started to skim a notice about how to recycle old textbooks, but she didn't get far before she was re-reading the one about meeting up for lunch.
If it was truly meant just for women, then it sounded kind of nice. She could eat her sandwich outside. She liked weird trees. The idea of having zero men around made it even more appealing. The last thing she wanted was to develop an interest in anyone right now. Or maybe ever again.
She took out her phone and snapped a picture of the page before checking the time and leaving with her donut. Twenty minutes later, with her class assembled before her in a small lecture hall, she cleared her throat and said, "Welcome to English 205. I'm Dr. Webber, and this semester we will be covering the classics."
------------------------
"You can do this. You'll be fine," Anna said as she walked slowly across the quad toward a palm tree that looked like it somehow started growing sideways about six feet up from the ground. "It's just some people."
But she wasn't good with people. Kevin had been quick to tell her that all the time. He liked to point out that she was awkward unless she was talking about literature or poetry or something from the New York Times bestseller list. Apparently she didn't know how to talk about normal things. Her hands started to sweat as she held onto her brown paper bag and can of ginger ale.
"Oh god," she groaned as she got a little closer. Truly, there was nothing to be afraid of. It was just two women smiling as they talked to each other with their lunches. But they were both beautiful. Like the kind of stunning girls that Anna was always afraid to talk to when she was a teenager. One was wearing a suit and high heels, and the other was wearing cute brown loafers and some tweed, and she felt like her own outfit looked awful now by comparison.
It wasn't too late to just walk past them and loop back toward her office and never try to socialize again. "Yes, let's do that." She nodded and picked up the pace a little bit. She could turn left at the weird tree and then maybe even make a run for it. "What are you doing?" she whispered, slowing down again. It was one thing to swear off men, but it wasn't going to be an enjoyable existence if she never tried to make a single friend here.
With a deep breath, she forced herself forward, and then soon two sets of eyes were on her. All she saw was matching smiles as she approached and said, "Hi. I'm Anna Webber. Is this the weird tree?"
"It's the weirdest tree I've ever seen," said the first woman as the other one jumped to her feet.
"Hi! Are you here for lunch?" she asked as she adjusted her glasses. "I told you someone would come," she whispered to the first woman before sticking her hand out. "I'm Jessica Reed! I work in the physics department, and this is my friend, and we are so, so happy you're joining us."
Anna smiled at how bubbly she was as she briefly shook her hand. "I just got here," she said with a wince. "I mean... it's my second day working here? I just got hired. In the English department. I'm teaching literature." God, could she sound like any more of an idiot right now?
But Jessica gasped in response. "Advanced Literature!" Then both women squealed, and soon the other one was introducing herself and talking about the math department and pointing out a building Anna had never been inside yet.
"It's silly, we know, but we kind of have code names for each other. I'm Advanced Calculus, and Jessica is Advanced Physics. You can be Advanced Literature. If you want." Now she looked a little uncertain while Jessica bounced in her high heels. "Wow, we sound like absolute nerds."
"We are nerds," Jessica confirmed with no shame as she looked at Anna. "I collect scientific journals. She uses math as foreplay with her husband. Do you want to eat lunch with us, Anna?"
Her response came with an ease that she hadn't felt in a long time. "Yes. Please." Then both women were shifting their lunches down and making room in the middle of the bench. Anna took a seat and watched Advanced Calculus pick a carrot stick out of the most beautifully organized lunch container she'd ever seen. She also had a tie dyed lunch box that was charming in a hideous way.
"How's your first week going?" Jessica asked as she bit into a delicious looking sandwich on fancy, multigrain bread. Anna knew she didn't fit in here at all as she pulled a plain turkey sandwich and some peanuts from her bag, but it was all she could afford right now.
"Well," she said with a sigh. "It's better than New Jersey."
Both women squealed again. "You're from the east coast!"
"Yeah," she replied as she opened her ginger ale. "I grew up in New Jersey. I went to college and grad school in New Jersey. I attempted to move to New York, and then somehow I ended up here." She left out the heartbreaking parts about Kevin, because he didn't really belong in a conversation where she was surprisingly kind of enjoying herself.
She learned the two women were from Massachusetts and Virginia, and that they both had PhDs from prestigious universities. They were both in committed relationships with naval aviators who also happened to work together. And both of the men loved packing their ladies lunches.
"Lucky," Anna muttered as she popped a peanut into her mouth and thought about the kitchen in her studio apartment. It was so small, it almost didn't exist. She was almost thirty and essentially still lived in a dormitory. How sad.
"Hey," Jessica said suddenly. "If you like peanuts, you'd probably love Chippy's!"
"What's Chippy's?" Anna asked curiously.
"Eww, no. Don't listen to Jess. Chippy's is a disgusting dive bar on the other side of campus."
"It's not disgusting! He just doesn't clean the floor."
Anna laughed. "I actually do love peanuts, but I'm not a big drinker." Then both women silently studied her, and she could feel heat rising in her cheeks. She'd said something wrong already. Of course things couldn't be this easy.
"Huh. You like ginger ale," said Advanced Calculus as she sat paused with a carrot stick halfway to her mouth.
Anna nodded as she said, "My... well, a guy I know used to make fun of me for being a ginger and loving ginger ale." She gestured to her auburn hair which was clipped up at the back of her head.
"Are you married? Or in a relationship?" she asked, and she finally bit into the carrot.
Anna didn't even have a chance to reply as Advanced Physics gasped on her other side. "You like peanuts. And ginger ale. How do you feel about men with glasses?"
"How do you feel about men with greenish blue eyes?"
"How do you feel about sweet men who blush?"
"Would you ever date a guy in the Navy?"
"Are you fond of beat up pickup trucks and country boys?"
"Do you want to come to the Hard Deck this weekend?"
Anna was starting to get whiplash as she looked back and forth between the two of them. "Wait, I'm sorry. What? I thought we were talking about a place called Chippy's?"
"We were. But now we're talking about a man called Bob."

Spicy! Jake likes that plug a lot 🥵😏
In Case You Didn’t Know
Part 11 ½
(previous part here, next part here)
Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin x You
Summary: It’s your turn to take the lead.
Tumblr media
Warnings: Warnings: 18+ MDNI, this is pure smut, a little oral (m receiving), ass play, spanking, p in v, sub!jake seresin, light dom/sub, etc.
•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•
“Turn over and find out.”
A shiver works through Jake from your words. You give him just a few more pulls before easing the stroker off and setting it aside.
“Christ Charlie!” He gasps when you bend forward to lick the remaining cum off his cock with a moan.
“Good?” You ask, looking up at him.
He nods, inhaling sharply when your tongue darts out again. “J-just…ah! sensitive.”
You finally release him and lean forward to brush your lips over his. “What do you say, Jake? Can I spank you?”
You smirk when his cock twitches in interest. “I’ll take that as a yes.”
•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•
“We can stop at any time,” you remind him as you straddle his thick thighs and warm some oil between your hands.
“I know. I trust you,” he replies into his crossed arms, sighing when you begin to massage his back. “If this is your idea of a punishment, you can punish me anytime.”
You laugh. “I’m just helping you relax first, I know how tense you’ve been lately. This massage oil also doubles as a lubricant.”
“Whatcha need lube for? I know it’s not you, I can feel how wet you are,” he replies, tensing as your hands travel lower to knead the taut muscles of his ass.
“A toy.”
“What kinda toy?” He asks, beginning to relax under your hands.
“A butt plug.”
“For you?”
“Nope. Well, it was going to be originally but I hadn’t had a chance to use it before you dropped in.”
“You like…that?”
“I’m not sure, haven’t had anything back there yet. Will you try it with me sometime?”
“God, yes,” he breathes, hips rutting into the bed at the thought of trying another first together.
You hum in agreement as you drag a finger between his cheeks and over his hole, coming back up to circle before pressing the tip in. You repeat the motions again and again. Soon he pushes back against your prodding finger, growing impatient.
You swat his cheek with your other hand. “Be patient or you won’t get anything but your spanking.”
He nods with a sigh, forcing himself to hold still.
You continue to tease his hole with your finger until he can’t hold back his desperate whines. You squirt out a generous amount of lube onto the plug and a bit more between his cheeks.
“It’s small; not much bigger than my finger but tell me if it’s too much,” you murmur before pressing it to his rim.
“It’s not-oh fuck. That’s good,” he moans, knuckles turning white as he grips the comforter when you gently push it in.
You lean down to press kisses up his spine. “It’s too bad you couldn’t listen. I was going to wear this tonight and ask you fuck me from behind so you could play with it,” you sigh dramatically against his back while you angle the base of the plug to press on his prostate. Your eyes drift close at the guttural sound that leaves him.
“I’ll be back,” you murmur before you climb off to wash your hands.
•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•
“Nervous?” You ask when you return, walking to the edge of the bed.
“Nah, I’ve seen your spaghetti arms,” He teases, turning his head with a wink.
“Remember the last time you said that? I gave you a black eye,” you say, eyes narrowing.
“Okay, but the sun was in my eyes and the ball bounced off my glove-“ he cuts off with a gasp when your hand meets his ass for the first time.
“Excuses, excuses,” you sigh before bringing your hand down on his other cheek again and again in a flurry, harder each time. “Better watch that smart mouth before it gets you in more trouble. Got it?”
He nods and you spank him again.
“Use your words, Jake,” you order breathlessly as your fingers trail over the red handprints.
He lets out a shaky breath before replying, “Yes ma’am.”
Though it’s just his southern upbringing, another wave of arousal shoots between your legs, coating your thighs at his response.
He tenses when your hand lifts from his heated skin.
“Rethinking that spaghetti arm comment yet?” You ask, nudging the base of the plug.
“Yes ma’am,” he admits quietly, sucking in a breath when you spank him again.
You tease him by alternating between more harsh spanks and light caresses. You’re absolutely soaked from his wrecked gasps and whimpers and how his skin is getting more and more red with each hit.
It’s when he can’t keep his hips from grinding into the mattress trying to find friction that you decide he’s had enough.
“Learn your lesson yet?” You ask, rubbing the sting out.
“Yes,” he sighs, sounding fucked out already.
You sigh heavily and swat each cheek again. “Yes, what?”
“Ma’am…I meant ma’am! Yes ma’am!” He groans, hips working faster.
“There’s my good boy,” you purr.
His hips stutter at your words, bringing a hand under him to grip the base of his erection.
“Oh, you like that, huh?”
“I fucking love it, but I-you can’t…not now. Or I’ll cum,” he pants desperately.
As much as you want to see if your words could get him off, you hold your tongue; you’re just as much of a mess as he is.
Once his orgasm isn’t quite as imminent, you have him flip to his back, reveling in the hiss that escapes him when his burning skin touches the bedding.
You waste no time and straddle him, sinking down with a drawn-out moan as his cock kisses your cervix. His hands immediately reach for your hips in a bruising hold as he guides you into a punishing pace.
“I…I forgot to tell you,” you pant, reaching behind you as you ride him, “it vibrates too.”
His back arches when you click it on and a strangled shout is ripped from his throat, “Fuckin’ hell!”
You’re already close but you reach between your legs knowing he’s not going to last long. It only takes a few tight circles off your clit before you fall over the edge with an uninhibited cry.
Jake manages to hold off but when your pussy grips him like a vice, he’s done. The vibration against his prostate has hot tears of pleasure streaming from his eyes as he cums with a choked sob.
•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•
“Something wrong, Jake? You’re squirming an awful lot there,” You murmur hotly against his ear the next morning in church. You’ve been watching him try to get comfortable on the hard wooden pew for the past 5 minutes.
Just as he’s leaning over to reply, Ruth reaches over to lightly smack the back of his head to shush him. You have to bite your lip to keep from giggling as a flush creeps up his neck to the tips of his ears.
•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•.•*•
A/N: this was all porn, no plot. I’ll be the first to admit this isn’t my best work. Sigh. I feel like I can’t write worth a dang anymore.
As always, any interaction is appreciated but I love hearing what you think in comments/reblogs.
