i don't respect DNIs not in the sense i go out of my way to break them but in the sense that i don't respect DNIs as a concept and consider them to be something of a red flag in general.

i'm not sure how to explain it but it's the combination of usually putting very serious issues on the same level as fandom stuff, the fact that half the time people don't even know what they're against beyond 'the bad stuff' therefore even further watering these issues down, and the idea that other people are expected to manage your online existence for you.

there's a passiveness to it that i think is actually a problem and it does not surprise me in the slightest that people with DNIs tend to view what media they consume as activism. do you get what i'm saying.

I'm a fandom oldie and a strong proponent of "ship and let ship", and I defend everyone else's right to ship what they love... But I think that gives people the idea that I like, automatically love every single ship??? Or every single trope?

I don't though!

There are a lot of fandom tropes that are on my "absolutely fuck no" list. There are a lot of irk kinks that are also on my "nope absolutely not" list, too. Personally, this is healthy. I'm able to look at something and go "Yep, I hate it, but it's not harming anyone, so continue to do as you please."

It's all about Creating a Little Guy and communicating the beauty of the things you observe around you: the sadness, the humor, and the absurdity of life. And the comfort your audience feels, knowing that even if the Little Guy you created can only be viewed through a screen, it exists somewhere in the real world. You know what it would feel like to touch it. It may not seem realistic, and the limitations of the medium may be very visible, but they can tell it was made with love, and that's why it's wonderful

I want to see more appreciation for these art forms. please. I understand there is a certain uncanneyness that can be off-putting to some people, but come on. at least try to move beyond your initial knee-jerk reaction and notice the real human emotions that were the driving force of the artists. If I have to deal with 5 more years of google autofilling "creepy"/"scary"/"killer" into my search bar when I'm trying to discover new works in some of my favorite art forms, I'm going to lose it.
