Smudged Happiness: Chapter 6/7
Previous Chapter
Chapter one
An: I combined chapters 2&3 so that’s why the chapter numbers will be off. If you already saw chapter six posted, this is the next one
Lucy finds out just how sheltered her private school really was. Turns out, when it comes to illicit substances, she was the odd one out.
Gray becomes weary of the new girls frequent texts, while Erza receives irksome texts of her own.
Mavis finds her new year enthusiasm is already fleeting.
Igneel finds a way to piss off both the Dragneel Brothers
All before first period.
The next morning, Lucy sat in silence on her way to school. Her driver sensed the dampened atmosphere and let Lucy sulk in peace. All she could hear in her head were echos of last nights screaming match. The thought of returning home after school filled her with dread.
After an eternity, the wheels finally slowed to a stop at the front of the school.
“Thanks for the ride. And I’m staying after school today, I have a club meeting after school. I’ll text you when to come,” Lucy said weakly.
Now I have to actually find a club.
Truth be told, she was procrastinating going home, before school even started. Lucy walked through the hallway in a daze, lost in her thoughts. On instinct, she arrived at their usual morning hang out spot.
“Hey Lucy! Sorry about last night!” Erza called out.
“Hey yeah, me too,” Gray said sheepishly, “we just both got caught up with our clubs seems like.”
“Oh it’s cool, Zeref tools is back to their place,” Lucy said. Then she frowned. With all the chaos that ensued yesterday, she hadn’t yet processed her initial bother. “Hey did you guys know that he like, you know… smokes weed? And also Mavis too?” She asked nervously looking around. It felt taboo to say aloud.
“Yeah? Who hasn’t?” Gray said causally.
“UH ME?” Lucy cried before putting her hand over her mouth.
“Uh me neither,” Erza said annoyed.
“Hehe but she sure can’t hold her liquor,” Mira chimed in. Erza’s faced matched her hair.
“Yeah I am really going to start pulling back,” Erza said embarrassed, “I can’t go through that again… and I can’t even remember most of it…”
“And I’m not going to tell you,” Mira sang.
“What? You guys do that stuff too?” Lucy said in disbelief. Nobody had ever done anything like this at her old school. If your skirt was even an inch too short, it was immediately met with a reprimandment on your file.
“I mean, you go to a public school now,” Gray said, “Standards and rules are just kinda overlooked as long as you’re not obnoxious about it.”
“How we didn’t do anything like that last year?” Lucy said confused now. Were they meeting up and purposefully excluding her? She felt a pit in her stomach.
“I mean, I guess we kinda just do really do that stuff together. None of us really have a supplier - so we just do it when available. Like I only ever get lit with my team because Ultear has a fake ID,” Gray explained.
“Yeah, the only time I ever drink is when student council throws a party after the anual debate competition,” Erza said, “Or Mira invites me somewhere.”
“Yeah, the only one of us who could have an easy supply is Natsu but he’s not really into all that stuff. I guess also since you hang out with him the most, makes sense we never did that stuff together,” Gray said.
“Yeah, we don’t really have the means,” Erza added.
“Can’t relate!” Mira giggled, “Cana, Laxus, and I all have fake IDs. We even went out clubbing once. But Erza is too goody to have one.”
“GRAY YOU BASTARD!”
Natsu ran down the hall screaming. He screeched to a halt in front of Gray, getting in his face, “WHAT THE HELL GRAY! WE WAITED FOR YOU FOR LIKE 45 MINUTES LAST NIGHT!!”
Gray stood up, meeting Natsu at eye level. “Well dickface, I was about to apologize, but now, I’m gonna beat your ass,” Gray retorted.
“Oh you wanna go? Bring it dumbass!”
“Oh you’re on!”
“Need I remind you, student code section 6 page 4 - fighting on school grounds is forbidden and grounds for suspension,” Erza said menacingly. She shot a hard look over at them.
“Yes Ma’am!” They both said backing down.
Natsu sat down and started to frantically scribble out some homework, while Gray started texting on his phone.
Erza looks over at Lucy, “Hey, the student council is throwing a party next Friday. Do you want to come?”
Lucy froze. On one hand, she was rather curious about the experience. It was so different from her usual schooling. It felt like a rite of passage. On the other hand, she knew there was no way her father wouldn’t find out and ruin anything. And the idea still freaked her out.
“No thanks, but thank you for the offer,” she said. The bell went off and they began to disperse to class. As Lucy walked away - Natsu caught up to her.
“Hey sorry about last night, I understand if he made you uncomfortable,” Natsu said.
“Oh no, Zeref didn’t make me uncomfortable-“
“What? No not Zeref! My dad! After he came in, you ran out,” Natsu said taken back.
“Oh, it’s just that… that car he described… that was my dad…” Lucy stammered.
“Oh.”
“I got to get to class,” Lucy said.
“Hey what’s your fourth period, I’ll walk with you to lunch. You can tell me what happened,” Natsu said.
“Alright I’ll text it to you.”
~
Gray felt his phone buzz in his pocket. He didn’t even have to look at his phone screen to know that the new girl Juvia Lockser sent him another text. She had been texting him quite a lot since their meeting 12 hours previously. Like a lot.
He slid into his desk while reaching in his back pocket to read what she wanted now.
Juvia (swim): Hey what are you doing during lunch period today?
Gray liked his swim team life and normal life separate. Besides he’d feel like a dick because of Lyon.
Gray: I have to attend a study group. But you should totally ask Lyon he mentioned he was free.
Juvia (swim): oh okay
Gray held his breath for a few seconds. When another text didn’t go through he sighed with relief.
~
“Hmm yeah, probably don’t text him again til at least after lunch. You don’t want to seem too clingy,” Meredy said looking at Juvia’s phone.
“I probably already do,” Juvia said anxiously.
“Okay maybe like wait until he approaches you first at practice today. Show him that he needs to come to you,” Meredy replied.
“Okay, I’ll try.”
~
Erza was taking out her laptop to prepare for class, when she noticed a text message pop up.
Devil Himself: guess who asked Mavis to host this year’s student council party?
Seriously?!
Erza was class president, meaning she represented the entire Junior class. She won re-election all three years. Seniors don’t have a class president, instead they were the student council president. This means Mavis is now the student council president, and as such, she has the honors of choosing who hosts this first party.
Of course Jellal would ask. Erza can’t win. Jellal was the head of the fundraising committee, which of course made all the girls fawn over him even more, as he helps raise money for homecoming and prom. During dance season, countless girls flaunt themselves over him. No doubt even more so this year, because as a junior, he can ask someone.
So infuriating
Erza: as if I’d walk through the gates of hell
~
“So Mavis? Are you down?”
“Huh? Sorry?” Mavis snapped out of her daze and looked over at her green eyed friend. He was sitting on his desk with his feet resting on the chair. Their friends were scattered around them looking at her waiting for a response. She looked back at him. His eyes always pierced through her mind sending her back into reality. He frowned.
“Mavis are you even listening? We’re going to the lake after school. You coming?” Yuri asked impatiently.
“Oh well-“
“Don’t tell me you have plans! We’re your friends too, ya know,” Precht said cutting her off.
“Besides summer is going to end soon! Let’s go while we can,” Jenny said.
Mavis and her friends usually met up in their first class, since they were all in the only honors historical literature class. Usually they all arrived pretty early, to start planning their day, but Mavis rolled in barely on time.
“Hey and while I have your attention, where were you this morning? hour car was still here when I left, and when I got to school - it was still in the same spot. Funny thing was, I couldn’t find you,” Warrod questioned.
“I got a ride home yesterday…”
“Mavis, you’re coming end of story,” Yuri said, “You literally saw him last night and today, you won’t die from half a day apart.”
Just as the warning bell rang, Mavis got a text.
Jellal: so mavis, will you let me do the honors and let me host the student council welcome back party?
Oh right. She was the student council president now. Well at least this was one decision off her plate.
Mavis: omg yes! So exciting! Let me know the details ASAP so I can text it out to everyone! I’ll also send out a sign up sheet for handles.
Wow I sound fake.
~
Lucy walked into her first period class and was relieved to see a familiar face.
“Levy!”
“Lulu!”
Lucy took the seat in front of her. “I’m so glad we have class together again!”
“Me too Lucy! Good to know at least one other person will have a brain!” levy said giggling
“Hey I was wondering, do you think I can sign up to be one of those tutors? I know I qualify for Literature!” Lucy asked hopefully.
“Really! That would be awesome! Just meet at the a library after school today, and I can get you started!” Levy said excitedly.
The bell rang and class began.
~
“Alright well, that’s attendance taken care over. Go ahead and start reading chapter 1. Or at least pretend to. I’ll be at my desk,” the teacher said as she sat down and opened her book.
Zeref didn’t even bother to put away his phone, much less even take out the book. Hell, he didn’t even know if he owned it. A text slid in.
Mard Gear: you going to all ur classes today ?
Zeref: fuck no
Mard Gear: meet at spot during sixth
Zeref: bet
He then sent another text:
Zeref: be there 30
Wendy: I’m sorry
Zeref: don’t be
Damn bastard Igneel won’t wake up to take Wendy to school.
Whatever, it’s not like Zeref was missing something important. Hopefully I can force myself to come back before third period…
Who was he kidding. He wouldn’t.

Smudged Happiness - Chapter 5
Previous Chapter
Chapter 1
And we have finally arrived at the Dragneel residence.
Mavis and Zeref smoke sesh.
Lucy hangs out with Natsu in his bedroom.
After seemingly light hearted fun - they were interrupted by their respective asshole fathers.
“Damn Mavis, you’re acting really suspicious,” Zeref said as he sat on the floor. Mavis shut the door and locked it.
“It’ll be worth it I promise,” she said as she sat down across from him. “You know how I was tutoring those inner city kids for my honors society service hours?”
“Uh sure?” Zeref said nervously.
“I actually hate you, I told you about it like a million times,” she said annoyed.
“Alright well what about it?”
“So, I got to know the kid I was working with. We were talking one day and he mentioned that he was a plug at his high school,” Mavis said smiling, “and on our very last day he slipped an entire quarter in my purse! for free!”
Zeref smiled, “Look at you, fully corrupted buying drugs.”
“Technically I didn’t buy drugs, I was gifted them,” she said cheekily.
“I’m guessing you want to smoke now?” Zeref said grabbing his grinder off the desk.
“Well I wouldn’t complain,” she said taking a bong out from under the desk. She took her water bottle and began filling it up.
~
“What’s her deal?” Lucy asked confused by Mavis and Zeref’s escape.
“I gotta few ideas,” Natsu responded. “So Wendy how was school?”
“It was good! I have two classes with Chelia and lunch with Romeo, so that definitely helped,” Wendy replied cheerfully.
“You’re Natsu’s cousin, right Wendy?” Lucy asked.
“Yeah but, we grew up super close. Even when my mom is home, we live nearby so we come to visit a lot. It feels like Natsu and Zeref are more so my brothers at this point.”
“Aww that’s so sweet,” Lucy said.
“By the way, when is Uncle Igneel coming back tonight?” Wendy asked.
“Well looks like he actually went to work today, but I don’t doubt he’ll hit the bar on the way back. Probably late, we’ll order takeout or something,” Natsu said.
“Ooh I really want to cook then! Chelia gave me this new recipe to try,” Wenvy said.
“Alright sure, if you want to. Me and Lucy are gonna head to my room. Let me know if you need anything.”
~
“Alright *ack* I’m tapping *cough* out,” Mavis choked out through coughing.
“Aww already,” Zeref said mockingly.
“So mean!”
“It’s who I am.”
Mavis usually doesn’t confront Zeref but her mind was buzzing with one thought ,“Why are you so mean that you ignored me for three days?”
Zeref stopped mid-pull and looked down. “It wasn’t like that, it’s just you know, Mard Gear and Kiyoka…”
“Hate me?” Mavis said.
“It’s not like Yuri, Precht, or Warrod don’t feel the same for me.”
“I guess.”
~
Lucy sat at Natsu’s desk while he gave her the room tour. His room was the size of the Heartfilia Manor supply closet. Everything in it was old and slightly broken. But it made her feel relaxed, being in a lived in home rather than a pristine polished prison.
He had random pictures scattered on his desk, there was a few of him and Gray. They looked so little in some of them. He had one with Erza where Natsu was sitting on at a desk while she was mid smacking him with a ruler. He even had one with his brother, Zeref was giving the camera a look of annoyance. Her eyes stopped when she saw a picture with her in it. It was a random selfie they took during class one day. They both were making silly faces and she was holding onto his arm. Oh god we kinda look like a -
“Lucy?” Natsu asked looking at her.
“Sorry I got distracted by your pictures, they’re really cute,” Lucy said.
“You think? Thanks Lucy!”
“I really like your home. It feels like a true family lives here,” Lucy said unknowingly.
“What makes you say that?”Natsu asked.
“You have sibling to talk to, you have cool room decorations, and it feels like a real community. Honestly, I talk to my staff more than my father. And everything has to be presentable always, even my own private bathroom that nobody else uses - sorry I shouldn’t complain,” Lucy said embarrassed.
“Don’t be sorry. We all have different experiences. It’s not like you chose to be born there,” Natsu said smiling.
Lucy smiled, however, it quickly faded. “Natsu, uh, do you smoke weed?” She asked nervously. A pungent order wafted its way to her.
“Not really, but Zeref and Mavis do all the time,” Natsu said nonchalantly.
“Wait, seriously?” Lucy gasped.
“Yeah, it’s not like Igneel cares.”
“But that’s like, you know, drugs.”
“I guess but it’s just weed, it’s not like they’re shooting heroin,” Natsu said.
Still, Lucy felt nervous. She knew kids her age did drugs and stuff, but she never actually met somebody who did.
“I promise, it’s not a big deal, they would probably even let you try it if you asked.”
“No way!”
They spent the next hour ranting about their first day, Lucy told him the nightmare about her schedule, and Natsu told her about how he overslept first period and got chewed out by three different teachers.
“At least it was better than my summer,” Natsu grumbled.
“Same,” Lucy said, “I mean of course going abroad is a privilege…”
“If it sucked, I want to know. I’m your friend Lucy, and even if we have different struggles, yours are still important.”
Lucy hesitated for a moment. “It was awful! Nothing I did was ever right. My dress was always sloppy, I fell twice in my shoes, and I was constantly told I was embarrassing the Heartfilia name with my lack of poise,” Lucy ranted out.
“Yeah that sucks, fuck that,” Natsu said agreeing.
“The worst was when that Sorano girl-“
“ARE YOU SERIOUS?” An angry girls voice called out.
“That was Mavis! Is she okay?” Lucy asked worried. She did not trust Zeref.
“I’m sure it’s nothing,” Natsu said nonchalantly.
“Well don’t you think we should see what’s going on,” Lucy said, hurriedly standing up. “It came from your living room!”
“I’m sure it’s nothing but alright,” Natsu said as he followed Lucy.
“I TOLD YOU TO BRING A BED!”
What?
Natsu and Lucy arrived in the living room to see Mavis and Zeref on the couch playing a video game.
“NOW IM GOING TO DIE BECAUSE THESE FLYING THINGS KEEP ATTACKING ME AND I CANT SLEEP!” Mavis said as she reached over hit Zeref.
“I’ll logout so you can sleep,” Zeref said amused.
“It’s too late! I’m going to die! Oh my God I had 25 levels!” Mavis said raging as she stared at the red respawn screen.
“Well I told you to make a bow.”
“She was yelling over this,” Lucy said dumbly.
“Yeah I tried to tell you,” Natsu replied smiling.
Mavis looked over at Lucy and started laughing, “I do remember you Lucy, I was sitting right here like this, I remember now. I was winning the game too until-”
“Nah I think it you were more like this,” Zeref said as he pushed her off the couch. She tried to take him with her by grabbing his hand, but the small girl didn’t have the strength. Mavis got off the floor and grabbed a nearby pillow.
“Now, I’m going to kill you with this pillow,” Mavis said while attempting to suffocate the black haired boy.
“Why are they both laughing like psychos?” Lucy asked.
“Because they’re high as hell.”
Suddenly the front door swung open. A tall man with a large coat walked in and looked around. Lucy instantly felt ice in her stomach.
“Welcome home Uncle Igneel,” Wendy called from the kitchen.
“‘Sup Igneel,” Mavis said pillow still over Zeref.
“Mavis. Zeref still awful?” Igneel said back to her.
“You know it,” Mavis replied.
“Natsu who’s this?” Igneel said raising an eyebrow towards Lucy.
“Oh I’m Lucy, Natsu’s friend from school?” She said meekly.
“Well then. Nice to meet you,” he said flatly, “there’s some flashy car driving around out there. Must be in the wrong neighborhood.”
“What kind of car?” Natsu asked.
“Some black luxury car, I think it might’ve been a Rolls Royce?
“Wait what?” Lucy gasped. Instantly she took out her forgotten phone to see 27 missed calls and thirty texts from her dad. She was screwed. He tracked her phones location and was trying to find her.
“Hey Natsu, thanks so much for having me, but I have to go,” Lucy said and she hurriedly gathered her stuff.
“Oh okay, Lucy,” Natsu said. Figures Igneel driving her off. “Do you need a ride home?”
“No it’s okay, my dad ordered me an Uber apparently,” Lucy said. “I just saw the notification and it’s waiting. Got to go!” And with that Lucy ran out the door.
Lucy ran down the block, putting enough space between her and Natsu’s house. She called her dad.
“Hey dad sorry, I lost track of time,” Lucy said nervously.
“I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU FOR THE PAST THREE HOURS! OUR DRIVER WAITED FOR YOU AFTER SCHOOL AND YOU NEVER SHOWED. ALL WE GOT WAS A MEASLY TEXT AND NOTHING ELSE.”
Suddenly the black rolls Royce pulled up next to Lucy. Lucy took a deep breath and opened the door. Jude Heartfilia stared daggers into her soul.
“I can’t believe it. First you send my staff into a hassle this morning over, your school, everyone was running around scrambling. Then you abscond here without so much as a word to your father?” He angrily spoke.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t think it was a big deal.”
“You never do and that’s the problem. We’re going home and I never want to catch you over here again.”

There's Something Wrong With Iggy Dragneel - Chapter 6
Things had been going well. Very well in fact. Natsu was happy that his son was home and had finally joined the guild. He now had all his children right where he could take care of them. He’d wanted to go on Iggy’s first quest with him like he had done for both Luna and Nashi, but the boy had politely declined, citing that Natsu would likely be bored sifting through books all day for the information the client was looking for.
What's this a mid week upload?! :D
to celebrate reaching 20 followers I'm uploading another chapter this week for everyone to enjoy.

Now six chapters out on ao3!
I feel like the true gen z high school experience never got shown truly accurate in media. They either went way over board, like Euphoria, or they were this kinda cringe middle ground, like Ginny and Georgia. Although it’s just a silly fan fiction with gross exagerations, I truly want to show an accurate portrayal about what it was like growing up as teenager in the later 2010s. At least for a suburban middle class.
While the story is mostly about Lucy, there’s multiple different character pov with simultaneous plot lines at once.
Fairy tail high school trope - except it’s giving more so Euphoria.
Featuring: Nalu
Main Story: Generational trauma
Lucy hides her trauma of abusive father and dead mother because she doesn’t want people to think she’s spoiled
Natsu hides his his home life - his drunk dad Igneel (I’m so sorry Igneel 😭) constantly rages and Natsu and his older brother Zeref have to pick up the slack for their kinship cousin, Wendy.
Similar to original story: best friends to lovers.

Main story: Purity culture, purity shame teen pregnancy
Used to be childhood friends now bitter rivals until starting fwb
Super conservative families and internal guilt
Similar to original story: childhood friends, who grew to resent, then love again

Smudged Happiness: Chapter 4
Previous chapter
First chapter
Ao3
Erza ditches school for the first time, for a reason she could never live down.
Gray meets the new girl on the swim team, and they decide to initiate her by getting wasted.
Warning: Slight nsfw
A few hours earlier during lunch….
Erza followed behind Jellal shooting dagger at his skull. He hadn’t done anything bad to her, but still, even when he tried to do something nice, it put her on edge. She was too busy fuming to notice where they were going. Suddenly she realized they were headed up the stairs to the open roof.
“Where are we going? Why would we have the meeting up there?” Erza ask annoyed.
“Oh yeah I lied. There is no meeting,” Jellal said laughing.
“So then what was the point of all that?”
“Obviously to get you alone.”
Erza’s eyes widened. “No way! I’m done with that. See you later,” she said as she turned to leave. He caught her hand before she walked off and pulled her toward him.
“Do you really want to play that game at school? We could, but that would cause a scene,” Jellal he said smiling.
“Let go of me,” but she didn’t attempt to struggle. He pulled her behind a corner and bent her over the wall. He put his hand in her mouth and took off as little clothes as possible.
As soon as he came, Erza pushed him off panicking. “You’re not wearing a condom! Why would you not pull out?!”
Jellal eyes flash panic, “Wait - s-sorry it’s just that every girl I - usually the girls I’m with are on birth control… are you not?”
“You know my parents!! What do you think??” Erza yelled. “Oh my god oh my god.”
“Wait we can go get Plan B,” Jellal said. “We can go right now.”
“It’s like fifty dollars! My parents will know something is up if they see a charge like that!” Erza said freaking out.
Jellal opened his wallet and took out a hundred dollar bill. “I’ll drive let’s go.”
Erza Scarlett, Class President, Rule Book follower skipped her first day of junior year to buy plan B.
~
Last period was Gray’s favorite. Not because it meant he got to leave after - but because last period was swim. After class ended, it streamlined into practice. Not today though, he had a few weeks before the season started. And since it was the first day, all he was gonna do was chill with his team.
When Gray strolled in he checked in with his coach and headed to the bleachers.
“Hey Gray. Just the mermaid I was telling Meredy about. Your synchronized swimming skills really brought me to tears at state,” Lyon Vastia said smirking to Gray.
Gray and Lyon were the definition of frenemies. Sure Natsu’s and Gray fight, but Lyon really knows how to grind his gears.
“Shut up Lyon, I dusted your freestyle time,” Gray said back.
“Yes but you really stole the show with your graceful butterfly,” Lyon said teasingly. Just then Gray noticed a girl isolated up in the bleachers.
“Who’s that?” Gray asked.
“She’s a transfer student from Phantom Academy. Supposedly she was there best swimmer, so when she transferred here, she automatically made the team,” Meredy explained.
“Hold on I know her. Holy shit! Gray, she was that girl who broke the record time on freestyle for girls! She literally won for their team!” Lyon said.
Gray looked at her. He recognized her. Girls free stroke was right before Boys butterfly. Juvia was last to go for girls, and he was first for boys. While they were waiting - he heard Juvia’s team mates making snarky comments about her loud enough for everyone to hear.
Right before she went up, Gray whispered, “When you swim today, do it for you. Win for you and have a self victory. Don’t let these bitches have any glory.”
Since he was up next, he hadn’t seen her perform. “Why won’t she talk to us?” asked Gray.
“I dont know she hasn’t said a word,” said Rufus walking up.
“Let me try,” Gray said walking up the bleachers. He walked over and sat down next to her.
“Hey I heard about your win. Everyone’s excited you’re here,” Gray said.
“Go away before I make you miserable too,” Juvia said.
“What would be miserable for all of us, is a teammate who can’t work with us. It would make us miserable if you stay up here.”
Juvia blushed and eventually walked down the bleachers with him. After a while, the entire boys and girls swim team was sitting upon the bleachers. The Coach checked in and started giving the usual speech. Lyon leaned over to Gray,
“Hey Meredy, Ultear, and I are staying after the bell. You coming,” he opened his jacket revealing a water bottle and a deck of cards. That could only mean one thing.
“Hell yeah,” said Gray completely forgetting his previous plans.
“Also ask Juvia to stay.”
Finally the bell rang and the students began to filter out. And Juvia walked out the door Gray touched her shoulder and whispered, “Hey how’s the time to get to know your teammates. Stay after the bell.”
The only people remaining were Meredy, Ultear, Lyon, Gray and Juvia. They sat on the floor of the boy’s locker room.
“What are we doing? Trust falls? Ice breakers?” Juvia asked quietly.
“Even better,” Meredy said smiling slyly as she dealt cards. Lyon took out the water bottle, took a sip and passed it to Gray.
“We’re doing shots and playing strip poker!” Ultear said.
~
“Wait no, we both can’t go in,” Erza said. Another argument, this time in a drugstore parking lot.
“Why not?” Jellal asked.
“Because what if we see someone we know and they’ll see us together and we’ll be here! Buying plan B! Together!” Erza rambled.
“Ok well it has to be you then,” Jellal said handing her the cash.
“What?”
“It’s the law that if someone under the age of 18 purchases plan B, they have to be a girl.” Jellal says.
“You just made that up!”
“Well we can argue about that too or you could just go get it.”
“Fine,” Erza says as she gets out of the car. She sheepishly wanders around the store not daring to ask for help. Her heart sinks when she sees them locked behind the counter.
“Um excuse me,” she asks quietly not looking up, “could I get um one of those boxes right there,” she said her face the same color as her scarlet hair. The cashier began to unlock the box. Erza noticed something else at the check out line.
“A-also c-can I get a pack of those *comdoms*,” Erza face now crimson. After she pays, Erza wordlessly leaves the store and runs back to Jellal’s car.
“Where’s your wallet?” Erza demanded. Jellal held it up confused. Erza snatched it and put the condoms inside. She shot him a glare and tossed it back.
“As you wish ~” he says in that infuriating snarky tone.
Erza takes the pill and they drive back to school. As they pull into the parking lot, it seems pretty empty.
“Oh wow we missed dismissal,” Jellal says amused.
“Oh crap! I was supposed to drive everybody from school today! It’s already 4:30!” Erza exclaimed.
“Well that sounds like a you problems. See ya Scarlett,” Jellal says as he drives off.
Erza pulled out her phone
Erza: I’m so sorry! The meeting just ended!
Natsu: it’s cool Zeref drove us
Wow lying to your friends. Who have I become.
~
“Ugh Ultear can u give me a ride home,” Gray said laying on the floor in nothing but his underwear. “Yeah, might as well I’m already taking Lyon.”
“Noooo you guys are leaving~~~ but we’re having so much funnnn,” slurred a Juvia.
“Who knew all she needed was a little bit of alcohol,” Meredy said giggling, “I’ll drive you home Juvia, I’m pretty sober.”
Gray and Lyon stumbled their way to Ultear car. The walk woke them up, so thankfully they could sit up for the drive.
“Hey Gray, I really like that Juvia girl,” Lyon said.
“Hey she’s pretty cool,” Gray replied.
“No, you don’t get it, I really like her,” Lyon said.
“Oh that’s cool I’ll respect that,” Gray said.
“You don’t mind, right Gray?”
“Nope she’s all yours”
~
“Wow Erza’s meeting just ended now,” Natsu said as they pulled into the driveway.
As soon as they opened the door, they were greeted by a swirl with a sweet voice, “Welcome home Zeref and Natsu! Hey Mavis! Nice to see you again Lucy!” She said.
“Finally someone remembers me!”
“Hey Wendy how was school?” Natsu asked.
“Cmon let’s goo,” Mavis said pulling Zeref to his room.
“You gotta see the surprise!”

Smudged Happiness: Chapter three
Previous Chapter
First Chapter
It’s the first day of school and everyone is back together.
After a stressful first day, Lucy, Gray, Erza, and Natsu make plans to get after school ice cream.
Only, Gray and Erza never show and now Lucy is being driven to Natsu’s house by his emo older brother.
Lucy anxiously fidget with the zipper on her backpack during the drive to school. She hadn’t seen her friends for the entire summer - what if things were different? They probably all hung out all summer getting super close while Lucy was in Europe.
Poor Lucy she scoffed to herself. Complaining you spent your summer luxuriously traveling. Way to be spoiled. She half listened to her drivers ramblings of the usual small talk. Lucy must’ve forgotten to respond one too many times because she realized after a while he stopped. Finally they arrived.
“Thank you, and see you later.” Lucy said and she got out of the car.
“I will pick you up at 3:30 Ms. Lucy.” And with that her driver headed back to the Heartfilia residence.
Unfortunately, Lucy didn’t have time to catch up with her friends as she headed straight for the schools receptionist. “Hey there! My name is Lucy Heartfilia. I am a sophomore and I was in Europe during the open registration and have not gotten my schedule yet,” she said.
“Oh of course! I’ll go ahead and get that printed for you,” the receptionist responded. “Please take a seat while I look you up.”
Hopefully this doesn’t take too long Lucy thought. Next to her was a solemn looking girl with big blue deep eyes. She looked at the ground clearly not wanting Lucy to talk to her.
“Juvia Lockser?”
The girl got up and followed the lady back to her office. Seems like a new student.
“Lucy Heartfilia?” The receptionist called.
Lucy walked back up to her desk.
“So it looks like unfortunately, you missed the deadline for confirmation of residency and you were unenrolled from our school,” she said frowning.
Lucy’s body turned to ice. “Huh?”
“We will be able to reenroll you and get a schedule if you are able to provide this proof now,” the secretary said. After many phone calls to different staff of the Heartfilia residence, and creating a schedule from leftover sophomore classes, Lucy finally got her schedule 10 minutes before lunch.
“This isn’t how I thought today would goooo,” Lucy whined to herself. She made her way to the courtyard to the table she and her friends had sat last year. She felt her stomach fluttering with anxiety and a shocking sensation through her spine. they definitely forgot about you
“Yo Lucy! Where have you been?”
Lucy turned around to see Gray waving her over. Instantly The shocking feeling melted and Lucy smiled and she walked over.
“Hey Gray, Hey Erza! Levy, Mira how was your guyss summer!?” Lucy said smiling. Instantly she felt at home. She sat at the table and listened about how Gray’s swim team won state and about different clients Erza got to work with. Levy went on a month long trip to Honduras for habitat for humanity and Mira gained 10k followers on instagram showing off her skin care routine.
“Lucy, how was London?”
Lucy hesitated. Truthfully, she didn’t enjoy almost anything about her trip. Being under the microscope of her father, having to always appear presentable, sitting through boring meetings. But everybody else was so excited about what they did and she didn’t want to be the rich girl complaining.
“It was awesome I went to like five museums and attended so many fancy galleries with the craziest food I’ve ever seen,” she said excitedly.
“By the way guys, where’s Natsu?”
As soon as she said it though, she caught eye of a boy in all black matching smoldering hair and eyes walking straight towards them through the people in the courtyard. He was hurriedly writing on a piece of paper.
“Hey isn’t that Zeref, Natsu’s brother?” Lucy asked.
“Yeah I wonder what he wants,” Levy said nervously.
Zeref had a reputation at the school. He is a genial prodigy who got perfect grades without ever once putting in effort, he got a 1600 SAT score and 34 ACT score, and he is known for his cleverness. However, he took the bare minimum easy classes, constantly skipped, and overall was a cold sarcastic person. Lucy even hear a rumor that he would drink vodka in his water bottle. Often times, when he wasn’t alone, he hangs around the students either bad rap sheets, like Mard Gear. That’s why Lucy couldn’t get over the fact that the Senior darling Mavis was seemingly friends with them. Not that she ever saw them interact at school.
Zeref approached the table and dropped a folder towards the spot Natsu usually sat at. “Tell Natsu I finished his math homework,” he said while walking away.
Just as Zeref made his exit Natsu finally arrived. “AAAAHHH I JUST GOT CHEWED OUT BY MRS GATES FOR TEN MINUTES!! ALL JUST BECAUSE I TOOK A NAP!” He yelled.
“She doesn’t want you to fail a second time and up with you again flame-brain,” Lucy said teasingly.
Natsu’s mood switched like a match, “Yo Lucy! Did you miss me?”
“Ohhhhh he missed youuuuuu,” Mira sang, “he kept being like ‘I can’t wait to tell Lucy this.’”
Lucy and Natsu both went red. “No I didn’t…” Natsu stammered.
“Natsu, your brother has left your homework for you. You do realize that another student doing your homework is considered cheating,” Erza said looking at him sternly.
“Please Erza!! Let it go this once!!” Natsu begged.
“Only because Mrs. Gates doesn’t deserve you a third time.”
“By the way we totally all gotta hang out this afternoon. Before all the extracurricular and home really ramps up,” said Gray.
“Erza you want to drive us to get ice cream after school - now that you gotta fancy car?” Natsu asked.
“You do know I can’t resist that,” Erza said, “we can go right after school.”
“I can’t! The tutors having an informational meeting after school today,” said Levy.
“And I gotta take Elfman to a Karate tournament!” Said Mira.
“Ah well next time,” said Gray.
“Hello Erza,” said a a guys voice.
Lucy loooked over and saw a tall junior boy with a smug expression on his face. Jellal! Lucy looked over at Erza. She gave him her usual dirty look but something extra was in it. Could it possibly be… embarrassment?
“What do you want?” She asks coldly.
He pretended to look hurt. “I was just on my way to an emergency student council meeting. I thought I would do you the courtesy of letting you know about it. But if you prefer I’ll go,” he said smugly.
“Right now? Seriously? Alright I’ll come with you,” Erza said as she took her stuff to follow him.
For the rest of lunch, they talked and goofed around like nothing happened. Lucy couldn’t believe she felt so foolish. These were her true friends. The bell rang and Lucy finally went to her first class of the day - math. She saw the new girl in her class - Juvia.
She’s probably just nervous and lonely Lucy thought as she sat next to her.
“Hi my name is Lucy. I was new here last year, I know it sucks at first but there’s amazing people here to meet. What’s your name?”
“There’s no point. Nobody could ever care about me. I’m just an aura that exuded misery,” she responded.
“Who knows? Maybe I could be your firmed if you let me?” Lucy said smiling, “my friends and I are hanging out tonight if you want to come,” Lucy offered. Juvia got up and moved to a desk further back. So much for that.
Lucy’s day ended relatively smooth until those so called plans. Lucy met Natsu at the school parking lot when the dismissal bell rang.
“Where’s everyone else?” Lucy asked.
“I dont know,” Natsu said, “Erza and Gray won’t answer their phones. I guess we can wait a little longer.” Still, after thirty minutes there was no word.
“Crap!” Lucy exclaimed, “My driver! I forgot to text him!” Lucy quickly shot him a text apologizing.
“Wait but now we’re stranded,” Lucy said.
“Well I bet Zeref is still loitering around with his friends. We could get him to drive us. If your down to hang out at my house, my dad won’t be home til late,” Natsu said.
Go to Natsu’s house? Just them two? Granted they’ve hung out alone numerous times, but still, this felt intimate. “Like me go to your house?” Lucy stammered.
“Yeah, why not?”
“Umm uhh yeah sure!” Lucy said. Better than my house.
“Alright I’ll text Zeref to get his ass over here so we can go. Follow me I know where his car is.” When they got there however, none other than Mavis Vermillion herself was there.
“Yo Mavis how’s it going!” Natsu said, grinning.
“Not bad, what about yourself,” she said smiling back at him.
“Are you waiting for Zeref?” Natsu asked.
“You could say that…”
“This is my friend Lucy!”
“Nice to meet you,” Mavis said sweetly.
“Oh we’ve met before,” Lucy said.
Then, at long last Zeref pulls up.
“Natsu if my departure time isn’t suited to your liking, get your ass on the bus and stop blowing up my phone-“
“Oh so your phone does work and you have been ignoring me,” Mavis said.
“Oh, hey Mavis… it’s not like that,” Zeref said taken back.
“What’s it like then?”
Lucy felt incredibly awkward caught between whatever this was.
“Well it doesn’t matter, Zeref. Because I have something for you,” she said slightly smiling.
“Y-you do? What?” He asked nervously.
“I can only show you at your house, so you better drive us all there,” Mavis said.
“But you drove here -your car -“ Zeref stammered.
“I guess you’ll have to drive me back in the morning,” she said opening the passenger door.
“And who is this?” Zeref said motioning towards Lucy.
“This is my friend Lucy we’re gonna hang out at home,” Natsu explained.
“Uh we’ve met before and you literally talked to me this morning,” Lucy said.
Zeref gave her a miserable look, “Alright let’s go then I guess.”
And with that they drove off to the Dragneel residence.

Smudged Happiness Chapter 2.5
Previous Chapter
Chapter 1
Erza has internal conflicts towards her dirty summer secret. What stays in the summer, happens in the summer. Or does it?
Grays just chillin
Warming: light nsfw
Erza gently brushed her scarlet hair sitting at her white ivory vanity. After a while, she put down her brush and walked over to her soft cushy bed and laid down, but not to sleep. She opened her phone and began to read her class schedule, meticulously memorizing the teachers, room number, and subject. Erza was the current salutatorian of her class and planned to take over as valedictorian. She did not study out of a joy of learning like Lucy and Levy, no. She studied because she was meant to become more, a lawyer graduating from Harvard.
After setting her alarm for exactly 7:22, Erza laid down to go to sleep. After trying for a few minutes, her brain began to buzz.
No! Do not think of that now!
Erza had spent her summer working at a law firm as an intern. As it turned out, the second internship spot was filled by her nemesis and the true valedictorian, Jellal Fernandes.
Ugh Jellal!
It was no secret they did not get along. Their peers know they are fierce rivals that never back down. Everything was a competition, GPA, test scores, debate club, student council, even early actions. Jellal with his sly comments, and arrogant attitude. It made Erza so infuriated every time he made a little jab.
What people did not know, is that Jellal and Erza have known each other a lot longer than they let on. They both grew up in an elitist social circle and their parents were friends. As kids they were friends as well, from kindergarten until middle school, where the pay both attended a private prep school. Their friendship deteriorated as their parents constantly compared and competed through them. The pressure got too much for Erza and she had to be pulled halfway through 8th grade - when she transferred to Fairy Middle During her sophomore year, just as she felt comfortable with her new friends, Jellal unexpectedly transferred for their IB program. He’s the only one who knew who she was before. Although he never said anything, his cruel eyes and smug looks say everything.
When she saw Jellal there in the first day of her internship he was already casually talking confidently to the senior managers. The sight of it enraged her. To be forced into collating with Jellal all summer. Cue two weeks of petty arguments and disagreements. One day after everyone else went home, they were both still left trying to finish their assignment. They had wasted the whole day arguing about the paper format and were currently trying to make up lost hours of work.
Erza stood up from her desk and began pacing. She needed to stretch her legs. She had been typing for three hours straight. “I can’t believe we’re still here,” she said leaning against the wall.
”And we wouldn’t be if you had just used my original format,” Jellal said annoyed.
”You messed up the last one!”
”At least I admit my fuck ups not blame them on someone else!” Jellal stood up and walked over to her. “You know it used to be funny seeing you get all mad and huffy, but right now you are really pissing me off,” he said walking closer and closer.
“Damn you,” she glaring at him.
”Fuck you,” he said back. Wow he’s really close.
”You wish,” she said snarky.
“Alright,” he said as he pulled her face up.
“Wwhat ?..? Are,you serious.?!” Erza stammered.
”It won’t mean anything.”
And he kissed her. Roughly pushing her against the wall, he stuck his tongue down her throat. What are you doing! How are you letting this happen! After a while he put her down and led her back to the chair. He sat down and she sat in his lap. Why are you going along with this? Why aren’t you smacking him in the face?
After they kissed for a while he pushed her onto the ground. “You’ve been a major pain tonight and Imthink you should make it up to me,” he said looking down at her. She glared up at him before slowly undoing the zipper.
”This won’t mean anything. Except maybe that I hate you even more after this,” Erza said with venom.
And that was just the first time.
And when they finally do have real sex, she doesn’t tell him it’s her first time. She wonders if her knew. She knew it wasn’t his and didn’t want one more thing he could hold over her.
She couldn’t believe it - of all the people to lose their v card like that?
She was raised in a conservative household that would not have approved of it. Ezra wondered what her friends would think - no she had no plans on telling them. She thought of Jellal and shuddered. It's not like it was a one time thing either. But that was the summer, this school year, Ezra vowed to not make the same mistake again.
~
Meanwhile down the street, Gray was up playing the new Call of Duty on his PC. He planned to enjoy his last day of summer by gaming until he physically passed out in his gaming chair. He had his alarm set and ready to go when he inevitably fell asleep.
Gray had done nothing almost all summer, however, except for one part. He tried to maximize his free time. The remainder of his time was spent at the Regional swimming championship. For the first time, Fairy Academy made it to the championship. It was the ultimate high, even when they placed 3rd.
Although Gray acted like he was above school, he was excited to start on the varsity team.

Smudge Happiness Chapter 2
Previous chapter
Authors Note: so basically I started this fan fiction years ago, but stopped writing due to everyday stresses. I still never fully let go of this story though, and I always wanted to do it. It’s a darker take on the classical high school trope.
Lucy is mostly the main character, but a lot of this story is told through the point of view of many different characters. Simultaneous stories happen at the same time, and sometimes a scene is told twice from different povs. All discrepancies are intentional as everyone is an unreliable narrator.
If you guys have any advice or feedback lmk. chapters get much longer!
Natsu was not having the best night. While all his friends spent the summer relaxing, building their resumes, and traveling abroad, Natsu worked twelve hour shifts lifting heavy concrete to help make ends meet. His father, Igneel, could never hold a job, the damn drunk that he was. Natsu cursed at the thought of his name. It was almost a yearly tradition, right before school let out, his father conveniently loses his job, leaving Natsu and his older brother Zeref to provide for their twelve year old sister, Wendy. While Natsu spent his time lifting concrete at a construction site, genius Zeref made double his pay tutoring kids for the SAT.
It was the night before the start of his freshman year and he was wide awake seething with anger. Igneel had come home again from the bar drunk and raging. Natsu had come home from his last day of exhausting work to see Wendy crying in a corner and Zeref screaming at his father while Mavis sat there, quietly looking down. God the things that girl know about my family Natsu thought.
After realizing he would get sleep until he calmed his fury, Natsu sat up in his old creaky bed he had since he was a toddler. He grabbed his phone and texted Lucy:
Ready for school tomorrow?
He looked at the red number on his old digital clock. Lucy definitely was not awake. Natsu tossed his phone on his bed and creaked open his door. He approached an old wooden door that was cracked slightly, as Igneel had slammed it and broken it in his rage. He heard quiet sobs coming from the room.
"Wendy?"
Wendy looked up at Natsu and quickly wiped her tears.
"Ah Natsu! Ready for school tomorrow? I already have my outfit picked out!" she said smiling.
Wendy had picked out a light purple top she clearly carefully ironed. There was stitching on the top from where Wendy had patched a hole. She also had picked out a white skirt that had a not so noticeable stain on it. He remembered what Lucy had told him, the only thing on a middle school girl's mind is their appearance.
"Cmon Wendy I got some extra change, lets go get you a new outfit"
"Natsu, it's two in the morning, nowhere is open. Besides, it's fine. Putting food on the table is more important than a new outfit, ya know?"
Natsu sighed and nodded. It pained him how mature and fast she grew up. Sometimes it almost felt like she was more mature than him.
"Good night Wendy, have Zeref drive you tomorrow," Natsu said leaving her room.
Next
When Natsu woke up that morning, his rage had melted, instead replaced by excitement, he was going to see his friends, and most importantly Lucy. His clueless friends who couldn't know how hard life could truly get.

Smudged Happiness: Chapter 1
Author’s note: Fairy Tail high school au - but a little fucked up (feat nalu, jerza, gruvia, gale, zervis)
Lucy is mostly the main character, but a lot of this story is told through the point of view of many different characters. Simultaneous stories happen at the same time, and sometimes a scene is told twice from different povs. All discrepancies are intentional as everyone is an unreliable narrator.
Lucy Hearfilia laid in a bed three times too large for her with her eyes closed yet fully awake. The empty space in her bed suffocated her and the sound her clock's tick echoed in her heartbeat's thud. After what could have been two minutes, or two hours, Lucy got out of bed and walked across the room to her desk. Her desk was handcrafted out of ivory and intricate designs were carved into the legs of the table. Lucy felt nervous with a hint of melancholy so she began to do the only thing that could help settle her nerves. She got out a clean piece of paper and a pen and began to write.
Dear Mom,
I am starting my Sophmore year at Fairy Academy this year. I am feeling kind of nervous right now and I know that if you were here then you would know exactly what to say. Truth is, I don't know what I am so nervous about, after all, I can't wait to see all my friends again-
Lucy smiled at the thought of her friends. She had not seen them all summer due to the trip to Europe she took over the summer. She had to admit that it stung seeing all her friends together on social media but she did not blame them. It was not their fault her summer was taken up by fancy overseas business parties.
I made a lot of great friends after I transferred halfway through freshman year. I am sure you would have loved to meet them, Mom. I expected to have a hard time finding friends due to my late start however, that was not the case at all. I made friends with the most beautiful girl I have ever met, Mirajane Strauss.
Lucy thought of her friend Mira, she was kind and beautiful, everything Lucy wanted to be. But behind her kind words and a beaming smile, she too knew the tragedy of losing family. Mira's younger sister, Lisanna, was killed in a freak accident when Mira was twelve and her sister was nine. She had learned about Lisanna's tragic end on the third anniversary of her death. On that day, everyone wore purple in remembrance of Lisanna. When Lucy had asked about the occasion, someone had told her that Lisanna had found a baby dove on the ground and decided to put it back in its nest. While she was climbing the tree, a branch snapped and she fell to the ground where she was impaled by a fallen branch. They said that the odds of her landing on the branch at just the right angle to kill her was one in a million. The story haunted Lucy and from that day forward, whenever Lucy saw a dove, she felt her stomach drop.
I also made friends with a girl named Levy McGarden. You would've liked her a lot. Like me, she shares my passion of reading and writing. We were thinking about starting a creative writing club at our school this year, actually.
Levy was the first friend that she had made when she transferred. Levy was working at the front office the morning Lucy transferred and noticed that Lucy looked lost. Levy asked if she was new and Lucy had replied yes. Levy walked her to her first class and offered Lucy to eat lunch with her and her friends.
Two of my closest friends are Gray and Erza. Last year, we all had our first period and lunch together. Our teacher was harsh and the subject was boring but it was the best part of my day. We always did projects together and met up at the local cafe near the school.
Erza is a grade ahead and the school council president - all the students respected and feared her. Gray is the carefree slacker who always props his feet up on the desk in front of them. Lucy never imagined she would be able to have friends like them. She smiled as she remembered all the fun they had in their first class together, Juvia's constant declarations of love that Gray never took seriously, going to the mall, and just hanging out after school.
However, never would I have had the friends and the adventures if it wasn't for my best friend, Natsu Dragneel.
Lucy paused and reread her sentence several times. Her best friend Natsu Dragneel. While Levy was her first friend, Natsu introduced her to all her other friends. He always made her feel included in everything that they did. She went over to his house almost on a weekly business, whether it was to study for an upcoming test or just to hang out.
Lucy began to reminisce on how they met. It was her second week of school and she still only had one friend Levy. It was fine, she really only needed one. The teacher called for a group project and wanted everyone in groups of four. Lucy figured that she would just join Levy, Jet, and Droy, that is until the teacher decided that she would assign the groups. Lucy still remembers the groups that the teacher had called out.
"Levy, Gajeel, Cana, and Kiana"
"Jellal, Mira, Laxus, and Bickslow"
"Freed, Reedus, Evergreen, and Mest"
"Natsu, Lucy, Gray, and Erza"
Immediately Natsu and Gray jumped out of the chair and yelled out, "WHY WITH HIM?"
After being scolded by Erza the quietly shrank back down into their seat. Afterward, the teacher gave them time to sit down and begin working on their projects.
"So who's this Lucy chick anyway?" Natsu said scanning the class.
"I sit right next to you, flame brain!" Lucy said in a tone harsher than she had meant.
"Chill dude, I thought your name was Luigi or something like that," Natsu said smiling.
They did not get a lot of work done the rest of the day and decided that they would have to meet up at Natsu's house later that day to get work done. Levy had come up to her at the end of class and apologized saying that her schedule got changed and that she could not sit with Lucy for lunch because she had library aid for the rest of the semester. Lucy smiled and said it was alright but could not help but to feel if she was back at square one, lonely girl with no friends.
When she walked into the courtyard for lunch, Natsu immediately called her over to come sit with him. When Lucy asked why he invited her, he merely smiled and said
"Were friends right?"
"Right."
~
Later that day when she got into the car of the Hearfilia driver, she told him to take her to Natsu's house instead of her own.
"Has my lady finally made friends?" the driver asked raising an eyebrow.
"Kinda," Lucy said, "we're just doing a project is all."
She got to his house at the same time as Erza and Gray. Erza reached over to ring the doorbell and then they waited in silence for a few moments. After a couple of seconds, a boy with jet black hair and piercing black eyes opened the door. Lucy began to panic as she thought that they had all mistakenly gone to the wrong place
until Gray said, "Hey Zeref, is Natsu home?"
Zeref sighed and opened the door to let them into the living room. "That idiot just ran off to the store with Wendy. He'll be back in about ten minutes. You can wait
here I guess."
"Zeref? Whose here? Some of Natsu's friends?" a girl's voice called.
"Something like that," Zeref called back.
Lucy went over to the source of the voice and saw a girl with blonde hair laying on the couch holding a video game controller. Instantly Lucy recognized her.
"Ha you didn't pause the game and now I am way ahead of you," the girl said smiling.
"You need all the head start you can get," Zeref said sitting down and picking up the other controller.
"You're Mavis Vermillion!" Lucy exclaimed. "As in, the valedictorian of your grade and captain of the volleyball team with a full ride to all the top colleges?
Friends with Yuri, Precht, and Warrod? You're practically perfect!"
Mavis smiled, "I am nowhere near perfect and a lot of those rumors are just exaggerations anyway."
Suddenly the door to the garage opened and Natsu burst inside.
"I'm back! And I bought supplies to help us complete our project! Oh, hey Mavis!"
A young girl came in the door behind Natsu helping him bring in some of the supplies.
"Oh Lucy, this is my cousin Wendy who lives with us while her mother is working in another country," Natsu said introducing them.
"Nice to meet you!" Wendy said smiling.
That memory of working together all night on a project was one of Lucy's favorites. For the first time ever, she had learned what it was like to have friends. Lucy looked back down at the letter she was writing to her mom. She no longer felt nervous, just relaxed.
Thank you, Mom, for always calming me down. Even though you are not here, I know that you are watching me.
Love,
Lucy.
Lucy then fell asleep at her desk after signing her name.
