serena van der woodsen's holiday's

after the riot of an ending to the fairchild ball, serena and nate decided there and then that they were getting out of the upper east side for the holidays

they made sure the mothers and her brother was taken care of and they took off to the airport at their earliest convenience.

playing house with nate over the holidays had her hoping that this is what all of their christmas and new year's would be like. slowly adding their family and close circles into the mix as the years went on.

a peaceful holiday season was what she needed, she felt like she wasn't looking over her shoulder for the first time in forever. kissing nate as they rang on new year felt like they really turned a new page in the book. new year, new goals and all that jazz

returning to the upper east side wasn't first choice for either of them but life was calling and it refused to be ignored. she only hopes that this year isn't as traumatic as the ones in the past

"i'll always look out for you" she smiled and pressed a kiss to his cheek. she adored this man. after everything she wouldn't change a thing if it meant she got to be by his side. "our moms will be fine, don't worry. mr sparks loves the thrill of the game and my mom is having too much fun with her friends to take notice." a soft smile found her face at his compliment "you're very sweet, you look handsome in your outfit" she leaned over to whisper in his ear "though i do prefer you with much less on"

"thank you, serena. you're always looking out for me," he said softly, looking down at his feet while she rubbed his back. nate took a little breath before meeting her eye, reaching out to cup her cheek. his beautiful girl. what would he do without her? "that's good. no one's gonna mess with her if she's with lily van der woodsen. yeah, having a pulse around mr sparks is a dangerous thing," nate added, only kinda joking. "you look amazing, by the way."

lily van der woodsen was incredible at a number of things, some which included looking fabulous at all times and another being her ability to tap into the mean girl to protect the people she cared about. "you don't need to be prepared for anything, darling. you did nothing wrong and you were more than entitled to take your time to have some peace. these people just want someone to pick on because they're getting bored and i certainly won't be letting that happen." she always felt protective over anne, even more so after howard's massive fuck up "champagne makes everything a little more tolerable. oh to be young and in love, those crazy kids"

anne had never been more relieved to see lily van der woodsen swoop in with a killer glare and superior smile. how she envied her... and how grateful she was to have her. "thank you for saying that, lily. i guess i wasn't as prepared as i thought i was for tonight. i mean, i should be used to it. i should be better at handling it. maybe i was gone for too long..." anne let the thought linger before snapping out of it. "well, at least there's champagne. they're definitely here, i fixed nate's tie a half hour ago. if there's somewhere they can sneak off to in here though, i'm sure that's what's happening."

"it's okay, i know this is a lot. you don't have to justify anything but you know you can talk to me if you need someone to vent to, i'll always be here for you" she smiled, rubbing his back. serena looked around the crowd to see if she could spot her "last i saw her she was talking with my mom but i've not seen either of them since. i only hope that gigi's dad isn't flirting with my mom again"

serena's voice finally broke through his haze and his expression immediately softened. he was worrying her, he knew it. and he hated to do that. plus, it was the holidays... he should be trying harder to make sure they have a great night. a magical night.

"i'm sorry, serena. i was... i dunno, i guess i feel out of it. it's been a long time since there's been something like this and i- i'm thinking about my dad. i mean, the last time...," he trailed, trying to shake it off. "did you see my mom yet? i don't want to leave her to the wolves either."

there was something off with him, she had noticed it recently but had left it alone in hopes he would come to her if he needed anything. one of the bartenders has asked him if he wanted a drink but he was in a world of his own. serena ordered for them both to keep things moving.

"i asked if you're okay. you seem like something is bothering you"

Nate couldn't stop messing with his stupid tie. At least it wasn't a bow tie. Last time it had been. Last time. Ella Fairchild could call it what she wanted, change the date and the theme, it didn't matter. He felt sick to his stomach. He wished he was high. He... totally wasn't paying attention---

lily waltzed through the crowed and shooed away whoever had been bothering anne "ignore them dear, they're just some social parasites that have nothing better to do than accost someone better than them to make themselves feel better" she thanked her for the champagne "dreadfully long i'm afraid. have you seen our children or are the lovebirds off hiding away agin?"

she hummed happily at the feeling of his fingertips trailing over her skin. there would never be a time where she wouldn't be at her happiest when she was wrapped up in his arms. "let's do it. we'll ignore the world. it's too much drama out there"

nate smiled into her kiss, he could stay here forever with serena. he let out another laugh, just imagining the way lily would turn that over in her head, deciding whether to believe them. "and we both know the most important thing is to stay fashionable. we wouldn't want anyone shit talking at the next brunch," he added with a grin.

he held her closer, gently tracing circles on her arm. how did he ever get so lucky? how did he almost mess this all up? how could he still mess it up... he closed his eyes, trying to quietened his spiraling thoughts. "this is why you're the boss," he smiled, kissing her forehead as her fingertip trailed down his chest. nate stayed quiet for a moment then before looking at her again, eyes soft. "i'd stay here forever, with you."
