Deziree knew fine well that the shoes were too small for her. It was a miracle she even managed to get them on her feet. However, she also knew that admitting that would gain her no sympathy. She held the shoes up by the heel to show Violet, as if to sell her insistence that the pain her feet were in was no fault of her own.
“They are supposed to be my size,” she replied. “But obviously someone was lying when they handed me the box. And the material is awful too, look at my poor heels!”
-
The girls feet looked in pain. Not just that dull ache but in genuine agony. If it wasn’t for Violet knowing how stubborn the woman was she’d actually feel some sympathy for her.
She was skeptical about the shoes supposedly being her size but she kept that to herself. “Why don’t you try shoe stretchers? They would help loosen up the material and give your feet some more space.”

Deziree frowned as Violet spoke, kicking off both of her shoes to pick them up. “I’m not fighting with them,” she insisted, but turned them so that Violet could see how uncomfortable they looked. She vaguely recognized her from Modes, but hadn’t bothered to remember her name. “But they are absolutely terribly made. You would think someone would have invented shoes that don’t destroy your heels.”
-
She recognised the other woman from her occasional visits to Mode’s but that was all she knew of her. Violet never understood why people would put themselves through hell by wearing shoes that didn’t find comfortable or could last the day in. It was one of the first lessons that her Aunt Edna taught her; yes shoes are fashionable but they had to be practical enough for day to day life. “Are they too high or maybe you need a different size?”

she wasn’t one for lone drinking but after the day she had she found herself in mount olympus, sitting at the bar and nursing a beer. jessie was scrolling through her emails on her phone when she saw someone slip into the bar stool next to her “hey” she offered a quick greeting when she looked up from her screen.
violet had finished her shift at mode’s for the day and had decided to stop in at mount olympus to say hello to henrik and to see if tony was around. after giving her hello she took a seat at the bar next to jessie “hey jessie, how are you? how’s being a detective treating you?”

Deziree was currently stopped half-way home from the dry cleaners, clinging to a tree and trying to sort out the heel of a brand-new pair of shoes. Of course she hadn’t chosen the right shoes for running errands, because she’s never run an errand in her life. That had always been Ella’s job. They were at least one size too small, but they were the last available pair closest to her size, and goddamnit she wanted them. The sales clerk tried to tell her they were too small, but she didn’t care.
Or, rather, she didn’t care until she actually decided to wear them. Deziree huffed, kicking off the heels and searching for sympathy. “What is the point of forking out so much money on a pair of shoes that you can’t even walk in! Eugh, the suffering I have to go through to look good.”
Violet was out on the coffee run for the morning for everyone working at Modes, it was Edna’s round last week and it was Violets round this week. She was on her way to the coffee shop when she noticed someone having a fit at their shoes “Uh are you okay? Are you fighting with shoes?” She had seen many sights in this town but someone fighting with their own shoes was a first.

Posey: Oh my gosh did I? I am so sorry thank you so much for telling me good lord knows I need it. When can I come to pick it up?
Violet: Yeah of course. I didn't want to leave it and not tell you. I figured you'd be searching like mad when you realised you didn't have it.

“why did you need to know that?” she said looking at Violet curiously. “Oh come on I don’t need to be whisked away for drinks..” she said before recounting the last time she and Violet hung out in her mind and it was in fact overdue “yeah we should, I get off in ten”
“Because I knew Jack wouldn’t be running the place when he’s up to his shenanigans with Zach” she laughed “Sounds good, it’s been way too long since we had a good catch up. You can tell me how mad those two drive you when they’re up to mischief”

“Okay then yes I have to chase both of the people I work with and the costumers kids” she said shaking her head
“Amazing. That’s all I need to know.” she laughed loudly “Anyway, I’m here to rescue you and whisk you away for some drinks and a long overdue catch up when you finish your shift”

“I mean do you want the honest answer and you want the polite answer cuz we usually have a lot of children running around the store but it depends on if their parents are actually paying attention or not” she said laughing looking at her friend.
“The honest answer” she laughed “Always the honest answer” Violet couldn’t help but smile at the idea of Sally having to chase Zach and Jack around the store thanks to whatever trouble they were getting themselves into.

Violet let out a laugh at Sally being authoritative, she’d always seen her as the sweet person she was “Hey Sal” she greeted with a wave “Do you always have to herd children in this store? Though i imagine you’ve had plenty of practice with Jack and Zach on the loose”
“Please don’t run in the store” she said to the children who were in the shop she didn’t mind children in fact she loved them, but the fact that they could knock down what Jack had made and Zach had put up made her nervous. “Sorry about that, how can I help you?”

Wendy laughed along with her friend’s gentle ribbing, managing to uncork the bottle and pouring a generous amount of the liquid into each glass, before getting to work on unpacking the snacks and pouring them into the various bowls she had brought out. “He doesn’t need to say anything, because it’s like, super obvious,” she argued, gradually bringing over the wine and the snacks to the coffee table. “Trust me on this, Vi. It’s not going to be humiliating. If you make a movie, I’m a thousand percent sure he’s going to say yes.”
She was thrilled for Wendy, she really was. She knew that her best friend had dealt with enough between London and returning home, she was happy Wendy had found someone. “What’s he like?” she asked curiously.
“I don’t know, you know how i’m not good with these things. What if he’s just being nice and I’m overthinking it? I don’t want to lose him because I’ve misread a situation and done something stupid. God that would make me want to be invisible for the rest of my life. You’d be friends with ghost Violet after that”

“I don’t doubt it” he smiled, the determination she had for the bell was admirable “Vi, you forget them at least twice a week” he laughed while she locked the door.
Tony raised an eyebrow at her drink choice and smiled at the memory that hit him. The last time they had that drink at Halloween, they were incredibly drunk and ended up dancing together at his place, eating pizza while sitting on the floor and and then built a fort to fall asleep in. “You know what, I think I’ll join you in that one” he said, linking their arms while they walked like they always did.
“I’m going to make the executive decision to blame by brothers for that” she laughed and smiled up at him.
Walking arm in arm to Mount Olympus after work was routine for them. “Okay but we need to be on best behaviour. Halloween got out of hand when we kept drinking those things all night. I’ve never been more confused waking up in a fort dressed up at Thing One from Cat in the Hat. That was one of the worst hangovers I’ve ever had”

All that Wendy wanted was for her friends and family to be happy. Sometimes, a lot of the time, that made her meddlesome and pushy, but it was difficult not to be when you were standing on the outside looking in. She could see things clearly in a manner that her loved ones could not and after a while it became almost infuriating to watch them be so blind.
“Hmm, I don’t know,” she replied pensively, taking out two wine glasses and bowls of various sizes for the snacks before getting to work uncorking the bottle. “His name is Jasper. He works at the bank.” It sounded so adult, dating someone who worked at the bank, and for a moment, Wendy almost freaked out wondering if she was trying to grow up too fast. But then she heard her friend’s next words and her focus was shifted elsewhere. “Vi, he likes you. Like, a stupid, crazy amount. And you’re practically dating already. You should just go for it!”
Violet was happy for Wendy, she really was. It was nice to hear that her best friend had found someone. “I don’t recognise the name” she mused “Ooooh a banker, how adult of you Wendy Darling” she teased with a grin. Her teasing was always in good natured, she knew Wendy would know that. Especially with all the previous talk of one Tony Rydinger.
“He’s never said anything and I really don’t want to ruin the friendship we have.” she groaned and covered her face with one of the sofa cushions. “We’re not practically dating. I don’t know. If he doesn’t feel the same then it’s going to be humiliating and we have to work together Wendy, he’s one of my closest friends”

I don’t wear the colour violet, at all. I don’t need the ‘Violet’s wearing violet’ joke every two minutes
Five foot one in height - five foot one and tonnes of fun
If I’m out drinking you can tell by how drunk I am by what food I want. Popcorn is when I’ve had a drink or two and want a snack, Cereal is when I’ve had a few drinks but still going, Pickles are for when I’m wrecked.
