just curious, have you finished Engage yet?
I STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN BACK TO IT OTL
I never worked up the nerve to go back after I made Sommie hate me and at this point I've been gone from it for so long that I'll probably need to restart, which means losing my animal collection progress until I can refresh myself on the story and mechanics, and I just haven't felt up to doing that yet. I SWEAR I'LL GET THERE SOMEDAY

I know you don't play Heroes much anymore but you might be interested to see they added Grima in the game.
Though they disappointingly did go the possessed Robin route. Again.
I SAW THAT I do like that they at least gave the vessels monster features this time rather than just an Ominous Purple Aura -- the wings, horns, and claws are a pretty boss choice.

I need you to understand that when I say "comments are appreciated!" I mean that I will reply to every one of them. I mean that an email with an ao3 notification has a higher priority than a message from my mother. I mean that I will have entire discussions in the comment section if you're up for it. Message me on tumblr and I will have the same discussions on an even more unhinged level. I will dissect entire personalities and ships and fictional political structures and worldbuilding with you. I will become your new best friend. You already ARE my new best friend. At the last battle, I would raise Anduril and say "For my ao3 readers" while a single tears rolls down my cheek, and dive into the fray. I would upload from beyond the grave if someone asked about the next chapter

12 & 13?
12. Any books that disappointed you?
Unfortunately I had a string of them of the four debuts I read over the summer, it was a 50-50 split of delightful and deplorable. While Voyage of the Damned and So Let Them Burn were both absolute delights, To Gaze Upon Wicked Gods and The Poisons We Drink were incredibly frustrating reads -- interestingly in very similar ways, despite being written by very different authors. Both of them sounded really interesting, too, which makes it even more disappointing that they felt so poorly written and edited.
13. What were your least favorite books of the year?
Foxglove King and Hemlock Queen by Hannah Whitten, hands down the worst books I read this year. Foxglove King I technically read last year, but it incensed me so much with how promising it seemed and how it proceeded to squander its whole premise that I had to subject it to two of my best friends (misery loves company and all). And then as payback I was forced to read the sequel, which was somehow even worse than the first one which is so frustrating because these books sound like they should be fucking catnip to me. Reading them makes me want to scream. yes I am going to subject at least one of those same friends to the torment of that one, too

For the end of year book ask: 2, 9, 11, and 17?
9 and 11 answered here!
2. Did you reread anything? What?
The entire Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir. I read the whole thing aloud while Gun's sister was visiting over the summer, and we all had a blast with it.
17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?
Probably the easy answer here would be Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle! Chuck Tingle is probably best known as a two-time Hugo finalist and prolific erotica writer, but he struck out into traditional publishing with horror novel Camp Damascus, and it is exceptional. Very tightly plotted and written, and the way the main character is written made me feel seen in ways I'm really not used to seeing in traditional publishing. Really excellent work and highly recommended (along with Bury Your Gays)!

Can I ask 3, 9 and 11 please?
3. What were your top five books of the year?
Not including books I've read before:
A Power Unbound by Freya Marske (finale of the Last Binding Trilogy -- I love all of the books, but damn if this one didn't hit me right in the feels)
Voyage of the Damned by Frances White (standalone debut and what a knockout!)
So Let Them Burn by Kamilah Cole (another debut and an absolute delight! I love that there's a whole series worth of backstory that's just alluded to, that was a standout choice)
Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle (I have loved both of Chuck Tingle's horror novels so far and I'm really looking forward to the next one)
Sunbringer by Hannah Kaner (this is one of the series I first read as a library check-out and then picked up for my personal bookshelf -- just an excellent fantasy series, I can't wait for the last book!)
9. Did you get into any new genres?
I don't think so! I've always been a big sci-fi/fantasy reader (they're my favorite genres to write, too), and just about everything I ended up reading fell somewhere into those genres.
11. What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read?
Dead Beat by Jim Butcher! One of my best friends recommended the Dresden Files series so I've been working my way through over the past year or so, and Dead Beat was an absolute standout among the books I've read so far. I've been having a ton of fun with most of the books, but that one I think can be safely crowned my current favorite.

19. Did you use your library?
FUCK YEAH I DID more than half of those 27 books were checked out from the library! (15 library, 12 on my shelf, some of which were acquired after the library read)
21. Did you participate in or watch any booklr, booktube, or book twitter drama?
look I love a good drama and I have watched or read up on a lot of drama breakdowns this year. It was a big drama year. withcindy has a whole playlist of her drama breakdowns and there were seven in 2024 (the Cait Corrain meltdown is one I keep going back to)

Day 7: Return
They hate to see one another cry…
I am so grateful to take part in this year's ChrobinWeek event. I love these two so much, their bond (ha) means so much to me. I would love to draw, and maybe openly harp on about them for years to come ;v;.

reblog with one creative goal that you would like to pursue in 2025 in the tags
it doesn’t have to be ‘big’ and there is no pressure to complete said goal. but i’d love to hear from writers, artists, performers, academics, designers, coders, and so on! 🤍
if it’s a creative outlet, it’s included. let’s inspire each other ⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚
