aemond pretends he hates Luke’s signs of affection but one day Luke forgets to kiss his head and call him sweetie before leaving for a trip and aemond has to physically restrain himself from texting Luke and going ‘what did I do wrong’

he does eventually message Rhaneyra going ‘ur son doesn’t lovdhshs me…tell me how to fix it…please’ and various other sappy things about him and Luke, when he’s sloppy drunk and the bed feels too cold.

Luke was gone three day and was confused why aemond was texting his mom paragraphs about him and aemond’s relationship. (daemon keeps them on file in case aemond ever fucks up, good blackmail material “)

Luke had to know he was pretending. It was hard enough in the beginning to admit that he liked Luke, let alone loved him, and even worse.... appreciated his constant displays of affection. So, Aemond assumed they'd reached a silent agreenment and had been playing their roles for the years he and Luke had been together.

Luke would kiss the top of Aemond's head as he left him for the day, profess his undying love every time they were reunited, and would call him sweet little pet names like 'love, and 'honey', and 'snippy bastard (affectionate)'. Aemond, meanwhile, would pretend to hate it.

So, how did they end up here? How did Aemond end up plastered on the ground of his apartment, head on Helaena's lap as his half-sister's phone sent him to voicemail for the second time. He'd already tried Luke four times.

At the beep, he recorded another message to Rhaenyra, slurring drunkenly as he did: "I'm sorry I keep calling. But If Luke doesn't love me anymore, he has to tell me."

"He loves you, you're being dramatic." Helaena cooed. Aemond sniffed, and waved her off. If Luke loved him, he would have said "I love you. See you later, my eternal love and keeper of my heart." As he kissed Aemond deeply before he left for the long weekend with his family. Instead, he'd parted with only a wave, and a distracted, "Be back on Monday."

Aemond continued, "Because I love him. And he's been gone for three days. And he hasn't answered my calls all night. He didn't say he loved me before he left. Maybe he doesn't anymore."

Helaena shook her head and took Aemond's phone. She ended the call and kept it out of reach so he couldn't make another one. He made her listen then, to everything he would have said to Luke had he picked up. She told him he'd be able to tell Luke himself tomorrow, but tomorrow was so far away and his eyelids were so heavy and Luke maybe would not love him tomorrow, if he did not love him today.

Aemond woke up still on the living room floor. Helaena still had his head in her lap and Aemond winced, apologetic that he'd done that to her.

"How's the hangover, honeybun?" Luke laughed breathily from above. Aemond opened his eye excitedly.

He scowled, but couldn't keep it on. Luke was home, carding his hand through Aemond's hair, and calling him a horrible pet name.

"It could be worse." He grumbled.

"So, you don't need me to kiss it better?"

Aemond sat up.

"Still need it." He said honestly. "Need you."

Luke nodded, "Was that so hard?"

Aemond knew that Luke knew, that the answer was yes. He shook his head anyway.
