I never thought life could be this complicated. And no, don’t say I should’ve seen this coming. The name’s Rory Lovell. I’m 17 years old and the only child of Arthur Lovell. I am, however, one of many children to my other father, the Greek god Apollo — and hey, if you’re struggling to wrap that around your head, don’t worry. It’s okay. Imagine how I felt when I found out. Honestly, it’s tough. Trust me, it wasn’t any easier before. It’d already been hard enough with just me and my mortal dad but at least we were together. We looked out for each other. Cared for one another. Gods, even told each other everything. That’s what family’s for. You keep them close, keep them in your heart, keep their memory safe. But, that’s the thing with demigods, isn’t it? Life’s tough. The world’s a dangerous place and we have to be strong enough to withstand it. If you miss your shot, miss your chance, you’ll only fall behind and trust me, you don’t want that. I don’t need my father’s foresight to know the rest; I’ve already seen what happens. So, take my word for it. Aim your bow, line up your shot and strike true. And by the Gods, don’t miss.

This is Iris Jones, my PJO D&D oc, and here's an introduction for the @riordanverse-oc-week! I'm a little late with the first prompt because I've been sick these past few days, but I still wanted to participate :3

Iris Jones, she/they, 16 years old, currently on a quest with their Camp Half Blood and Camp Jupiter friends. They're unclaimed, but rumour has it that they might not be Greek or Roman. Who knows whose kid she is? (our DM. our wonderful DM knows)

My dad, Patrick Jones, would often say to expect the unexpected. And honestly, I thought I was decent enough at following that neat little piece of advice, but holy shit

No, scratch that. Dad would tell me to cut down on the swearing. "Not in the first two sentences at least, Pumpkin," he'd laugh, trying to cheer me up whenever I was upset.

Well, I guess an introduction is due. I'm Iris Jones and at the ripe age of 16, I learned that I'm a demigod.

Listen, I had a hunch that the situation with my other parent must have been, uh. Ugly? Unusual? Complicated? Because my dad, my human dad, never talked about them much. He'd usually tell me that they "loved me, but had a lot going on", or that they "cared for me, but thought he'd do better as a parent". Not that they set the bar particularly high–I have no idea who they are to begin with, apart from the fact that they're a freaking deity. One thing that is true though is that my dad has been doing his job pretty darn well.

I spent my life on our farm kind of in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by chickens, sheep and produce. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun, too. We would hike, wander around the forest, go camping, or read in our hammocks. Plus, nothing could beat eating pancakes on the porch as the sun was rising. Life was good. I always thought my dad just liked it that way, with the peace, calm, and solitude, but turns out, he was trying to protect me from monsters (and that explains all the wolf attacks we had to deal with…). It wasn't always just the two of us, but that's a story for a different time. All in all though, we were happy, we really were.

Now, I'm in Camp Half Blood, and to be fair, I don't really know what will happen. Everyone is really nice and sweet, but it’s all still a bit overwhelming. Exciting! But also overwhelming.

And to my godly parent: if you're reading this, just know that I've been doing great without you, so if you wanna make me your pawn like the other gods do with their kids, save yourself the trouble and find a hobby. I heard embroidery's pretty relaxing.
