Lucanis' VA on the pantry scene.

#I think a lot of people caught on to that but it’s good to know the actor was going for this as well with his performance#he was not imitating fucking Illario or#recreating a scene from a romance novel#he wasnt even scared of his own rizz#he was scared of the person he was becoming or could become with a freaking demon stuck inside him#dragon age the veilguard#lucanis dellamorte#rookanis

Freeing Lucanis from inverted Ossuary.

The thing with romancing Lucanis in the game is that I love all the versions and cannot decide.
I love the idea that 'an hour found' could be a kiss or more, or his silly little notes about exercises interpreted as intimacy. There is so mamy wonderful interpretations of how it could have gone down and my own imagination loves to fill the gaps and give Rook and him a sweet little moment here and there among the madness.
BUT I equally (or maybe even a little more) ADORE that they really just haven't. That it's a relationship that's l purely just the emotional intimacy at first, for a good while, and that Rook is the one who'd be happy to do everything but is willing to put their desires aside to give him the space he needs. That Rook is a safe space enough that he can just take his time to take apart whatever reasons he has to keep a distance - and he has many!
Having a bit too much on his plate aside, he's been tortured in all kinds of ways, I imagine even a gentle physical touch may be something he needs to ease into, that may just be the case even before the Ossuary to an extent since he probably didn't receive much affection.
His lack of experience - and I mean literally experiencing such feelings - may be something he needs to slowly unpack. Perhaps he only ever felt such way about Viago (I wouldn't say there was many if any other people) and even then those were not allowed to expand as much as with Rook. Maybe he questions if the feelings are truly his or a reflection if Spite's fascination.
And what I boil it down to at the end, as he slowly manages to make sense of it all and tackle and unwrap his issues within himself, he finally has this person he cares for, he wants, and it will never be his own. Nevermind the implication towards Rook? How does that work? How does one have that conversation with either of them?
Spite's part of him and whether they get along or not, whether you imagine Spite leaving them 'alone' or prticipating, it's an experience he had longed for deep down and he can't have that for himself. And I think it all really makes sense that he'd take it painfully slow, but I love for him to have the safe space to do that. That Rook's just there kinda, I'll be here when you're ready. I find that ultimately the realest, sweetest part of the romance.
And when he looses Rook he ultimately de ides that if he ever got them back, he'd not let that stop him, because he'd rather not have them for his own than not have them at all.
But I also really want them to smooch after the dessert. You see my struggle?
#These are all good points!#I would also like to point out the only time reading entry appears overlaps with the hour found with Rook#they were totally reading to each other and maybe some touching and relaxing#I think after that they could totally have sex and Lucanis would be on board with it#he is very open to taking about improving his game with Taash#like yeah I should pop out the wing when we have sex#but I also believe Rook has sex with all of the possible LIs before Tearstone#with some like Harding it’s quite obvious they fuuuck a lot and I love that for them

example: you usually play as a male character, but the character you want to romance is into fem only, so you play as fem character instead.
#this is not a serious post#I would play a whole different being from another dimension for one chance#I’ll play as shit eating worm#you say yennefer of vengenberd is only into sentient latex gloves? get me in there baby!

I have to go off on VG for one sec real quick. It's probably not your standart bioware critique but it bugs so much I gotta rant. During A Murder of Crows before you enter the secret passage to villa Dellamorte, Rook de Riva slips and reveals that they don't know that Treviso doesn't have a sewer system. Now given that Rook de Riva was kicked out more than a year ago I assume they moved to Treviso with Viago like 2 years ago at least to make a united stand againts the antaam. As someone who's lived in different countries around the EU you know what's the first thing I would be aware about the city I move to? That it has NO FRIGGIN SEWAGE!!! I probably wouldn't go there in the first place. It's like telling me there's no central heating or landlines, or public transport doesn't run on weekends or whatever. How do you not know this!? You're lazy for this one Bioware.
#datv#rook de riva#dragon age the veilguard#bioware critical#hell you probably fell down those canals a couple of times and you still don't know there are no sewers#mf this is your city you should know this

The worst possible punishment for Illario would be to make him work contracts with Lucanis and Rook de Riva.
They’re all on a rooftop, and Illario asks, “What’s the plan?”
He looks at Lucanis. Lucanis shrugs.
He looks at Rook. Rook grins.
They both jump off the roof.
And he’s left there and forced to confront the horrible truth that has just been revealed to him:
Dear Maker, there’s two of them.
(When they return to the Diamond, somehow successful, Illario is soaking wet, missing a boot, and sporting a black eye. He begs Viago to just poison him instead.)
#also they are a couple!#hey Illario member when you said Rook picked the wrong Dellamorte?#bet you take that shit back#these two are insane and deserve eachother#walking too close to edge...yeah right mfs are running and doing flips on that edge#I'm with Illario on this one better be poisoned and locked in the basement

An hour lost is my personal hc, but it could be like a little bit after that first time. the found hour overlaps with the reading entry in his log so I just assumed they were reading to each other while Lucanis was relaxing on Rooks lap, like post fade prison.

You know, I still think it’s crazy that the first time Lucanis and Rook kiss, is also then followed up by their first time together. So many firsts in one night for them, besides already riding on the moment of Rook returning from the fade.
#they totally kissed before that#Lucanis goes for it with a lot of confidence and the whole post Tearstone scene feels#a lot like I need this I missed this#I believe they kissed and snuggled a lot during those sleepless nights/days in the lighthouse#even the fact that Lucanis likes to lay his head in Rooks lap shows he developed preferences during their relationship#the head and hair stroking!?#they done all that before

Rotating Viago and Rook de Riva in my head right now. Thinking about how a man like Viago created his Rook. A man that refused a comfortable life as an exiled royal bastard in favour of being a paid killer. This is a man of ambition and drive that cannot be denied or ignored. A man who is riddled with paranoia and a good dose of OCD. And for a good reason because even talons are expendable. Just look at house Arainai with the most talons turn over in history.
Do how does Rook de Riva fit into all that? I believe they are a product of the past and future. Of all of Viago’s ambition for efficiency and strive for perfection. Banter with Lucanis states that they were tortured during their training as well. This should not be ignored as this could mean beatings, withholding food and water and purposeful torture to withstand interrogations in case of capture. This is the ugly reality that crows like Zevran and Lucanis faced. But it’s not the same anymore and Viago knows this. The crows must be better, must evolve to survive. This is why Rook de Riva is more adaptable than say a crow like Lucanis who is a specialist and more rigid. That is not to say Rook is not adaptable by their nature but Viago saw this encouraged this. He did not see this as a weakness that needs to be corrected the way Caterina “corrected” them with Lucanis.

i do wonder about the crook in lucanis' nose and if it was intended to be natural face asymmetry or a fracture that didn't heal quite right. i personally like the broken nose route because it would make a lot of sense considering his profession and it gives his face some storytelling. either way, it's a neat detail.
#definitely a broken nose#I love it honestly#it offsets the general sexiness of his appearance#I appreciate a flaw that emphasises other beautiful features
