One thing you start to realize in adulthood in the U.S. is that most things that are obtuse and complex for a reason.
Taxes are obtuse so you hire a business to help you do them or do them for you. Insurance is obtuse so you pay for more things out of pocket than you need to. Bills and laws are obtuse so politicians can pretend to work for their voters while creating loopholes and giveaways for their donors.
And part of the reason it works is that, as an adult, it's often considered shameful to admit you don't understand something.

They Want You to Think Violence Doesn’t Work Because It Works
Let’s just be real. The ruling class is scared of one thing more than anything else. People who fight back. Not people who protest nicely. Not people who beg politicians. Not people who write petitions or vote every four years hoping for scraps. They’re scared of people who are ready to shut shit down. Scared of people who are done asking.
That’s why they push this fake moral line about how “violence never solves anything.” That line is not about peace. That’s not about ethics. That’s not about doing the right thing. That’s about keeping you obedient.
Because the truth is they don’t care about violence. They use it every damn day.
Cops beating people in the street. That’s violence. Evicting families at gunpoint. That’s violence. Dropping bombs on kids in Gaza or Yemen or wherever the hell they feel like. That’s violence. Letting people go hungry while millionaires throw away food. That’s violence. Keeping you sick broke and desperate just so some rich asshole can buy another yacht. All of that is violence. Systemic. Quiet. Legal. But it’s still violence.
And when the people on the bottom finally get tired of eating shit and start pushing back. That’s when they preach nonviolence. That’s when they tell you to calm down. To be peaceful. To take the high road. Be civil. Protest “the right way.” As if there’s ever been a right way they actually listened to.
They only say that because they know damn well that when oppressed people rise up and stop playing by the rules things actually change.
Look at history. Slavery didn’t end because of a polite request. Workers didn’t get weekends and safety laws because bosses were feeling generous. Women didn’t win rights by waiting their turn. Colonized nations didn’t free themselves by sending thank you notes. They had to fight. They had to burn shit down sometimes. They had to make the system hurt.
That’s what scares the ruling class. Not violence in general. Not destruction. They love destruction when they’re the ones doing it. They’re scared of people refusing to sit down and shut up. Scared of people who realize this system only works because we let it. Because we believe in its fake rules.
And the biggest fake rule of all. That “violence is never the answer.” They made that up. They repeat it because it keeps you passive. It keeps you quiet. It keeps you loyal to a system that’s killing you.
They teach you pacifism but send riot cops to crush your protest. They cry about “looting” but steal from you every paycheck. They cry about “law and order” but sell weapons to dictators. They tell you to be peaceful while they bomb hospitals and fund genocides. They are not against violence. They are just against resistance.
Look at how they treat anyone who fights back. Not even with guns. Just with anger. They called MLK a threat. They killed Fred Hampton in his bed. They erased Malcolm X’s message and turned him into a quote machine. They destroyed the Black Panthers. They crushed labor movements. They spy on activists. They lock people up for throwing a brick. They want you scared of power that is not theirs.
They only celebrate resistance once it’s no longer a threat. They wait until the revolution is dead and then they teach it in schools like it was all hugs and speeches. That’s how they rewrite history. That’s how they convince you that real change came from being polite.
But deep down they know better. And you should too.
No one is saying you have to like violence. No one wants a world where people get hurt. But don’t let the people who thrive on violence tell you how to resist. Don’t let the people dropping bombs from drones lecture you on morals. Don’t let the billionaires and landlords and war criminals gaslight you into thinking your anger is the problem.
Your anger is the most honest thing you have. And when enough people stop apologizing for it that’s when things start to shift.
So the next time some bootlicker says “violence never solves anything” ask them what solved apartheid. What ended kings. What forced the rich to share anything. What stopped the Nazis. What built every freedom they now take for granted.
Because the truth is simple. They are not scared of violence. They are scared of you waking up to your own power.
And that’s why they want you passive. That’s why they want you scared. That’s why they want you to believe resistance is useless.
Because they know it’s not.
