kind of crazy how Narrator has had the individualism so thoroughly beaten out of him by his corporate office job that he can't even be independent in his personal relationships. as soon as he meets Tyler he latches onto him like a parasite and builds his entire identity around him because that's the only way he knows how to live. yeah he doesn't let his job dictate him anymore but he's a lost little lamb without someone telling him what to do and puts Tyler into that role instead. he never wants to make a decision without an invisible string puppeteering him the whole time and literally only gets rid of Tyler the moment he decides to reclaim some semblance of autonomy but imo that desire for control won't last for very long once he's gone

I will not accept the propaganda that tyler is incapable of being affectionate ok. him holding narrator in his arms after the car crash was not necessary. he didn't have to start crying after the chemical burn. he is so touchy with narrator in the book. he openly acknowledges that narrator loves him and doesn't seem to be emasculated by it. I don't think it comes very easy to him since his purpose is to be assertive and masculine but he's certainly capable of showing affection for reasons that go beyond just trying to manipulate narrator.... much to think about

i dont like labelling soapshipping because yes narrator is gay to me, but hes also comphet and obsessed with the idea of a nuclear family, and yes tyler is bi but sexist as all shit and yes tyler is a gnc trans guy whos a guy but also not really depends on the moment and his idea of masculinity is up in the air and yeah he loves the narrator but not in that way and WHO FUCKING CARES i play with my dolls
