Tech Post 5: Why to leave Facebook
The four issues Nick Briz discusses are, filter bubble, “recycled likes”, sponsored stories, experimenting on us.
Briz said that leaving Facebook was very hard for him because he used it alot for designing and what not. He thinks its a good media to connect us with other people.
He mentions that he doesn't use certain search engines like google, that’s something i want to do research on. He also mentions the book by Jaron Lanier “Who Owns the Future?” which is another thing i would research in the future.
I am a Facebook user. After many years i stopped using it less and less because i use Instagram more now than any other social media website.I use Facebook because it does connect me with people that i don’t necessarily talk to a lot if they live in another state especially since most of my friends are in college now so Facebook is a good use to see how they are doing.
This video hasn’t really changed my mind about Facebook. I knew most of the stuff he talked about in the video already because of a writing class i took last year in college about online surveillance. There is a history of what we search in the internet or what we like on Facebook, which then connects us to other things. Say you search for buying a new T.V. The internet will know this and give pop up ads on best buy for a new T.V. Just like if you like a post about a movie on Facebook there will be an ad for you to buy tickets to the movie.

TECH Post 4: Texting Culture
Texting in my culture is something that can be really useful at times but can also be very difficult and cause problems. These days everyone has a phone and they use everyday almost all the time. Now texting can be useful if you have to tell someone something and cant talk on the phone because you are in class or at work. But texting can cause problems such as distracted driving from our phones and getting into accidents.
Personally I don’t like texting but i do it a lot anyways. I don’t like it because tex t messages get misunderstood all the time. There is no emotion put into text so you could be talking to someone and they could take that text in multiple ways. For example if i say “you’re unbelievable” someone could take that as i think they are amazing or i think they did something wrong that pissed me off. Then it starts an argument over text and things get worse from there.
In some circumstances i would rather call someone than texting them. If i have something to say that is a long story i will call them instead of texting. If i have big news I would call or wait to see the person face to face. Texting is something i’ll do if I’m just making small talk to throughout the day or texting my parents when i’ll be home, etc.
The most important news i have ever texted is probably telling someone i got a new job. I’d rather tell important news in person rather than texting unless the person i want to tell lives in another state i will call them.
Here is a video that i really enjoy that is about phones and it is interesting and makes a lot of good points. Makes you think a lot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRl8EIhrQjQ

TECH POST 3: ED OSBORN
Seeing Osborn’s work was really interesting and I liked how he talked about each of his works. He had a lot to say about each one and it was intriguing to me. I took notes on three of my favorite works he had. The three favorites were Recoil, Flying Machines, and Night Sea.
When i first saw Recoil the first thing i thought was these creatures with long necks bobbing up and down. I knew right away the black boxes were attached to fishing poles to get that motion in there. There were speakers below them to make noises like the “creatures” were making this noise.
Now flying machines was a bit different. There were multiple balance beams in a room and attached to them were speakers to make noise and fans below the speakers to keep each of the sides balanced. The fans made the speakers make sound. The cool, thing about this work is each component worked together. The fans turned on which made sound to keep the machines balanced.
Night sea was my favorite of his works. It was these rubber wires attached to a wall and some of the wires moved from tiny music boxes. The reason i liked this one so much is because when i looked at it it looked like brain waves or like a network. Each wire moving when your brain feels pain, or happiness.

These are the 2 silhouettes for my project 3 of a rock and a bolt. I did a rock for a possible info graph of the size scale of sand, and the bolt is a possible info graph of what sand is used for.

TECH POST 2: DLECTRICITY
I saw 3 medium sized glass boxes next to each other in a line. Each box was about 4 to 5 feet in height. The boxes had smaller white boxes on top. These smaller boxes looked like they were made of wood. Each box looked like a small world inside. There were structures inside with organic shapes and miniature blue figures (people). There were trees and ladders and other buildings made out of colored plastic. Each box was lit up from the bottom. I believe the story behind this art work is a futuristic world. Not so much the boxes that these beings are inside but the environment they are living in. All these weird shapes as buildings and homes.
This artwork sparks curiosity inside me. It makes me ask questions like, what would it feel like to live in a world like the one before my eyes? Is this what the future world will look like? It also makes me feel trapped in a way. I feel trapped because i see these tiny blue people in cased in this glass box. They have no idea that there is a whole new world outside of these boxes. Makes me feel like I’m trapped at home all the time with a big world outside of my house. I really enjoy the curiosity that it sparks but i don’t like feeling trapped.

This is Mr. Hipnoasis. He can create magic designs from his hands and his saxophone legs. He can only create the designs from his legs if he is dancing like so. Also those designs make music when created. He often gets annoying because he always has energy to create those magic music designs. The two things that power the magic is the spark of his body and the love of his life in his heart.

This is my rough draft for my monster collage. I got the basic shape of his body done. The background is also finished. I still have to add a few things like eyes and nose from pictures i have taken myself. I also need to add a picture i drew myself in there somewhere.

TC POST 1: DLECTRICITY
There was a big open area and in the area there were about 6 to 8 giant inflatable rabbits. They were about 10 feet tall and were lit up with a bright white light inside them. The rabbit that I took a picture of was made from the same material as a bounce house would be made from inflated with air. The rabbit was white from the bright light and greyish in its head, ears, and feet. One of the ears is sticking out to left of you when you look at it and the other ear is down the side of its face. The hands are put together like its praying. You can see lines throughout the artwork like the material was stitched together. The bunny was held up by 2 wires attached to each side of its face. There were no moving parts and it wasn’t interactive. I just walked around in between each rabbit.
When I saw these rabbits I was intrigued by them. The one I have a picture of was the most intriguing to me. When I saw this I had mixed feelings. I felt happy and sad because of the way the rabbit looked. The happy part of me was because of the bright light and the ear that’s up. Animals’ ears go up when they are happy, on guard, or excited. The sad part of me was because of the rabbit’s ear that was down on the side of his face. That usually means an animal is sad. I really enjoyed admiring this specific rabbit since it evoked different emotions inside of me. All artwork should do that.
