Last show in the Rachael and Vilray tour with a FULL BRASS SECTION. Such a fun show, we even had Jon Batiste drop in for an encore!

It’s such a treat to play live music for dance performances, not something I get to do too often. A highlight at Lindy Focus was playing a clarinet solo behind these great dancers.

Truly an honor to spend another week with these great musicians who love and know so much about swing-era music. Lindy Focus 2019 was one for the books!

While I was in Chicago last week I had the pleasure of sitting in with “The Modern Sounds.” Joel Paterson on guitar, Beau Sample on bass, and Alex Hall on drums.

Here's the 3 of us trying out my arrangement of Irving Berlin's “The Song is Ended.” Matt suggested this tune, and since it was originally a waltz this arrangement starts with the verse as a waltz, and then at the very end 3/4 time comes back as "...the melody lingers on." As far as the unison line on the chorus, my inspiration came from bebop tunes that still reference the melody of the tune they're based on...Stupendous (aka S'Wonderful) comes to mind. Hope you enjoy!

A few weeks back my trio that plays Tuesdays at IL Bistro got together to rehearse some of the fancier arrangements I've written. Hope you like it! The Jacob Zimmerman 3 now has a record in the can that just got mixed, look out for that and come see us on a Tuesday soon.
