I like to say I learned to walk on gravel
and in the summer the ladybugs would fall from my window seam
a jar with a hand-drawn skull and crossbones sat on the counter
next to the tapeworm I got from the neighbor’s pig
the bats made a home next to ours
and the cat fought a raccoon and was never the same
we burned half a forest for warmth, and the ash settled in my lungs
from Wolf Branch 2020-

I love to dance myself and perhaps I enjoy photographing dancing even more. Often I do both simultaneous. Dancing is a moment of pure abandonment of your exterior.. you must go with the beat if it appeals..no need to be “good”... just into it...I usually use a small flash as here and low ISO and slow shutter to pick up the background .. just a tiny tiny wink of strobe to freeze the foreground action..it’s not the only way.. simply a way.. Many photographers are afraid of flash or simply hate it...I go years with no flash and yet will do entire projects/books with flash as I did with Living Proof my book on hip hop...I popped in on these seniors by surprise .. so I just jumped in ..as always I join.. and in Sicily if they like you , you’re family...https://www.instagram.com/p/BhH_YkVAQW0/

The exhibition closes on May 6. . The exhibition - the largest ever of the photographer's work - explores Davidson’s role as one of the most important photographers of the second half of the Twentieth Century, and as an essential representative of the group of the documentary photographers that emerged in the early 1960s. . In the Los Teques area in the Caracas suburbs, hundreds of people wait, since early in the morning, to try to get basic products regulated by the government such as oil, sugar, milk or toilet paper. Government subsidized products have artificially low prices that made the production unsustainable and opened the way for corruption, scarcity, smuggling and a price distortion as high as 500% between official and black market prices. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. At a demonstration in Catia, a popular area of Caracas’ west end, an elderly man protests against the shortage of food and calls for the presence of a government representative to discuss the local distribution of food as the subsidized products are in constant shortage or irregularly arriving to the beneficiaries. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hello, I’m Oscar B. Castillo (@eltestigo44), a Venezuelan documentary photographer working on subjects related to the causes & consequences of socio-political fractures & conflicts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Our war is not only made of blood & fire, our war is an endless battle against ourselves. Our war is the hard but easy way, the "shoot first, ask after". Our war is proof of our inability to have a dialogue while coexisting with our differences. Our pain isn't only physical. The bullet pierced the flesh & lodged in the collective soul & is becoming impossible to remove. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In our war there are no sides, no defined camps in confrontation against the enemy. This is an all against all fight. This isn't armed conflict, even if there are weapons ready to shoot. This is not a narco-war, even if drugs come in & out of our ports & our brains. Here we don't have a coup d'etat but many people who want to take down a government that tried to take down another government. We don't have a famine, but people aren't able to find basic food or medicine. Our war is criminal, political, economic, social, moral, spiritual...maybe our war isn't even here yet. Maybe together we can prevent it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The 6 South American talents of the 6x6 Global Talent Program are taking over our feed! They’ve known one another since childhood, but officially came together as a group in 2017. Their mission: to combat negative stereotypes about African-Americans and the city of Compton, California, through horseback riding. “We’ve always wanted to give people a different side of Compton besides gangster rap and basketball,” said Leighton BeReal, 28, who was born and raised in Compton. Another group member, Randy Hook, 28, added: “At the end of the day, we want people to also think about us when they think about cowboys, not just a bunch of white guys in cowboy hats who smoke Marlboro cigarettes.” @mychivas photographed members of the Compton Cowboys ordering food from a drive thru in Compton.
