How to Motivate Yourself
1. Visualize yourself succeeding. Imagine what you will be doing, how you will look, how others will be reacting or relating to you, how you will feel …
2. Break your main goal down into lots of smaller, more manageable pieces. Then, just do “the next thing”. Don’t get bogged down by everything you still have to do!
3. Remind yourself that every tiny bit of effort counts. It all adds up and makes a difference in the end.
4. Make a start – even if you’re just committing yourself to doing 10 minutes of something you don’t want to do. Often the hardest part is overcoming the initial feeling of dread or inertia.
5. Put on some of your favourite upbeat music. That can help to get your moving, and also change your mood.
6. Get a friend – who also wants to improve their motivation – to join in the commitment to see this project through. It’s easier when others are hanging in there with you – and you also keep each other more accountable.

“It’s important that we share our experiences with other people. Your story will heal you, and your story will heal somebody else. When you tell your story you free yourself, and you give other people permission to acknowledge their story as well.”

“You must make a decision that you are going to move on. It won’t happen automatically. You will have to rise up and say, ‘I don’t care how hard this is, I don’t care how disappointed I am, I’m not going to let this get the best of me. I’m moving on with my life.”

Tips to Stop Procrastinating
1. If you’re procrastinating because you’re feeling stuck (eg, if you don’t really understand a school assignment, or you don’t know what’s expected, or you don’t know where to start) then pluck up the courage to ask for some help. When you know what you’re doing, it’s easier to work.
2. Remind yourself that most decisions aren’t major. If you get it wrong, you can start over again, or change your direction, or have another try.
3. If the task seems overwhelming, just take a baby step. That will get you moving – so the next step’s easier.
4. Tell yourself that you can suffer for up to twenty minutes – and then you’ll return to doing things you want to do. You’ll be surprised to discover that “suffering’s” not that bad.
5. Decide to do the task as soon as you get up as the more you put it off, the worse it’s going to feel.
6. Don’t pretend that other work counts just as much as what you’re leaving. Just acting like you’re busy won’t make it go away. Be honest with yourself … and do what’s most important first.

You are happy for others’ accomplishments, but are you happy for your own? Are you proud of your own? Of all of your efforts? Your trials and successes? The pursuit of your dreams? Smile for the growth of others’ lives but don’t forget to celebrate your own as well. Your growth is just as important.

Things to do when you want to give up
1. Take some time out to recuperate. You can’t keep going if you’re running on empty.
2. Take a step back to try and gain perspective – as sometimes we can’t see the woods for the trees.
3. Attempt to take stock of the current situation. Evaluate what you really want and need.
4. Try to re-evaluate your current strategy. What things are working and what things should you change?
5. Don’t be afraid to change direction if you need to. Sometimes that is the best thing – and it opens up new options.
6. Push through the dip - as we all lose momentum. But if you keep on going, you will get there in the end.
