Jai Ashok Mahtani – Best Beginner Electric Guitar Songs | USA

I'm Jai ashok mahtani sharing with you best electric guitar songs for beginners. At this point, I am going to assume that you have selected your type of guitar, be it electric or acoustic, have decided on the model, and have picked up between chords and leads and where to start with. In a previous post, we discussed the easiest songs to play on the acoustic guitar for beginners. So a natural follow up on that is to discuss some riffs and songs with the beginner electric guitar players so in this blog post, we are going to move forward in the Jai Ashok Mahtani guide for beginner guitar and list down a few songs to play on the electric guitar for a student who has just picked up his instrument. So let’s get cracking! Back In Black By AC/DC Oh, what a classic! And what a privilege to be able to play such a classic song from one of the most popular rock bands of all time. Back in Black by AC/DC is a pretty easy song to play for a beginner as it does not require too many crazy skills. Though the player will have to switch between different styles of playing as it has riffs ending in high as well as low notes. Since electric guitar songs are not just some chords and a strumming pattern, I will be leaving a tutorial link and a link to the songs down below! Tutorial for Back in Black by AC/DC Link to song Zombie By Cranberries If you would remember, Zombie by Cranberries had made the previous list in songs to play on your acoustic guitar if you are a beginner list as well. And that is because it is such a beautiful song. You can play the song with the same chords and strumming pattern as mentioned in the previous list on an electric guitar as well. It is a simple yet moving classic. It can be played in several different styles but I am going to link the classic style tutorial down below. Chords: Em, C, G, D/F# Tutorial for Zombie by Cranberries Link to song Born Free By Kid Rock Kid Rock is a legend, we all know that. But it is not so difficult to play some songs of a guitar legend. Born Free by Kid Rock has some spices added up in it by the legendary musician sure, but it has a very easy chord progression. It sounds nice and is easy to play. Plus practicing a song by a great musician is a good practice to get the confidence needed to play on stage or in front of your friends. If you want to be a vocalist as well as a guitar player, this song can come in handy to practice for such. There are simple versions of the song to play so I am going to link the non-fancy tutorial down below. Tutorial for Born Free by Kid Rock Link to song Rockstar By Nickelback This song is an old hit of the popular rock band called Nickelback. Nickelback was a sensation and I remember how everyone used to jam to their music. Rockstar by Nickelback is a pretty good beginner’s song as it has only a few basic chords to play and the tempo is phenomenally easy to keep up with. It is a great song to gain confidence and get into the habit of playing on an electric guitar. A very basic song but fruitful to learn nonetheless. Tutorial for Rockstar by Nickelback Link to song Pumped Up Kicks By Foster The People Oh, what a beauty this song is! It is personally one of my favorite songs of all time. The message, the playing style, and the band itself, I am a huge fan of this song. This is a song that will go down in history for its significance in portraying the social environment of the USA in recent years. But putting classics aside, it is also a very easy song to play! There are only 4 chords to play in this legend of a song and they follow the same order! The strumming and tempo might be a bit different but it is quite easy to get a hang of. Tutorial for Pumped Up Kicks by Foster The People Link to song About Jai Ashok Mahtani I am just a simple guitar teacher trying to reach out to students in a pandemic. In this situation where people can’t go out to learn this wonderful instrument, the wonderful instrument can come to them! Jai Ashok Mahtani, USA – 5 Songs To Learn On Your First Acoustic Guitar

If you read up the Jai Ashok Mahtani guide for purchasing your first acoustic guitar and got yourself a classic guitar yourself, but are still confused about where to start, then don’t worry! I don’t leave my students hanging! I have compiled a list of a few simple but classic songs by great bands for you to start your guitar journey.
The songs mentioned below are easy, the progression is suitable, and the chords are for beginners. Though there might be some setting in the different strumming patterns, I believe that if you want to get started on playing your newly bought acoustic guitar, and what to start with chords instead of leads, these songs are perfect for you.
Take note that all of the songs vary in their genre as well as playing styles. That is because there is a high probability that you will find your playing style through the following songs as a guitarist’s personality starts developing the moment he touches the instrument. So try out all songs and move forward if you find it too difficult. But I would suggest to sincerely give a try to all songs, who knows? Maybe you could be the next Paul McCartney or Johnny Cash!
The Cranberries- Zombies
Zombie! Zombie! Zombie! This song is as powerful as it is simple. From the strumming pattern to the basic chords, you would think this song would not be so beautiful when you will play it on your guitar, but boy are you wrong. Zombies is that song that lights an insatiable fire in every young guitarist’s soul. It is the perfect and most graceful tune to have it be your first song.
Chords-Em, C, G, D/F#.

Imagine Dragons- Radioactive
Who can believe that one of the most popular songs by one of the most popular bands of the past decade would end up on a beginner songs list? Well, believe it or not, Radioactive despite it’s one billion views on YouTube is one of the simplest songs to learn on an acoustic guitar. The four employed chords are the first chords that a guitar student learns and the strumming pattern is extremely simple. I would suggest practicing Radioactive on your new guitar till your fingers bleed as this song can make a new student understand the true beauty of the guitar.
Chords: Am, C, G, D.

Green Day- Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
Green Day, one of the most OG bands of all time has released many songs over its 20 years of music production. In addition to arguably being the most popular song of Green Day and being the anthem of everyone in an engineering college, Boulevard of Broken Dreams is also a perfect beginner’s song. Its chords and shifting pattern is basic though the new students might take some time to get into the strumming part of the song. A classic song and a very simple song, I would Boulevard Of Broken Dreams by Green Day is the best song for new students who like the rock and pop sound of the acoustic more than its soft counterpart.
Chords: Em, G, D, A.

This song by the most legendary band of all time, the Beatles falls under the softer side of the acoustic guitar. A classic love song by the most popular band of all time, Love Me Do is a great choice as a beginner’s song. The rhythm is easy to get into and it also teaches the new student how to change in between chords. The strumming pattern is fairly easy and helps in the development of advanced strumming that the student would learn in the future. Undoubtedly one of the classiest songs a beginner can learn on his new acoustic guitar.

Guns ‘n’ Roses might be the reason why many, many young guitarists pick up the instruments. From legendary solos to power chords, playing a Guns ‘n’ Roses song is not only impressive but also feels heavenly. Patience is one of the simpler songs of this gem of a band and requires only the 4 basic chords: A, G, C, D. I would say if you want to start building up your song arsenal to impress people on all the songs you can play, Patience by Guns ‘n’ Roses is a good choice. And if you start liking the power of Guns ‘n’ Roses so much, you can go on to form your rock band as well!

Train- Hey Soul Sister!
A feel-good song by Train, Hey Soul Sister is sure to get on your mind the very moment you hear it. On top of that, it is a very simple song to play! If you are looking for a song that has beginner to intermediate difficulty, then Hey Soul Sister is a great option. It does require the F bar chord which might scare away new students but hey, you have to start somewhere, plus beginners can use the regular F chord if they find it more comfortable. The rest of the chords are basic and the strumming pattern requires a bit of practice. But repeated sessions and practicing sincerely can result in you playing this beautiful, soothing song in front of anyone you like. Also, take note that it may require some tuning to get the sound that matches the original song, but for learning purposes, following the tutorial below with a regularly tuned guitar will work out perfectly too.

The Jai Ashok Mahtani - Guide For Beginner Electric Guitar Brands

I jai Ashok mahtani and I shared you in our previous blog post, we talked about some beginner brands for acoustic guitars and the subsequent guitar models from those companies that are best suited for beginners. And in continuation, today I bring you the Jai Ashok Mahtani guide for choosing an electric guitar brand as a beginner. Now you might be a first timer in the world of guitars, or you might be a proficient acoustic guitar player shifting or trying out the power of the electric guitar for the first time, but please don’t worry; the electric guitar contrary to the acoustic guitar is easier as well more fun to play. So I hope this short, brief guide will be helpful to you as a beginner. I have included three brands that I think would be the best suited for electric beginners and 3 basic models from said brands. The Brands Brands matter a lot when it comes to an electric guitar. They matter a lot in acoustic guitars as well, but a poorly constructed electric guitar will either produce a shaky quality of sounds or not produce sound at all. And keep in mind that electric guitars are quite expensive, so a good brand and reliable brand is a must to go for if you are a newbie who is indulging in his passion for the guitar. Many classic electric guitar brands have been endorsed by legends, but for a beginner, I will be listing down the 3 brands that I find the most trustworthy in the market. Epiphone Epiphone is the most trustworthy electric guitar brand out there, period. The company was acquired by the CMI group in 1957 and started making guitars in 1982. If the company CMI sounds familiar, it’s because it also owns the legendary Gibson guitar brand. With the combined forces of a large conglomerate and the pioneer of guitars at its backside, Epiphone has taken over the electric guitar market through both sensation and quality. Many rock stars like The Beatles’ Paul McCartney and Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day have used Epiphone and it is regarded as the ‘it’ brand when it comes to electric guitars Yamaha Yamaha is at it again! With its low prices and extreme built, Yamaha continues to dominate the beginner market in both acoustic and electric guitars. Beginners tend to go for Yamaha guitars as it provides the user with quite a punch for a considerably low amount of money. Not only is Yamaha a great value for money option, but it can also compete with various premium brands. You can find many seasoned electric guitar players still rocking a Yamaha guitar onstage as Yamaha models come with simplicity and that crisp Yamaha sound, in addition to being soft on the pocket. They are vintage, have those recognizable Yamaha high-quality notes, work for seasoned players as well, and are generally regarded as the safest option for a newbie looking to buy his first electric guitar without splurging on Les Pauls. Fender Close your eyes and think of a classic electric guitar. Chances are that you are thinking of a Fender model. Fender is another reliable company that has been in the electric guitar game since time immemorial. Its guitars are crisp and powerful and are affordable too. Many of its starter models are perfect for beginners as not only are they affordable but also come with that Fender reliability. They are incredibly easy to play and give a total beginner a sense of familiarity as Fender guitars are some of the most popular newbie guitars! The Models Since we have talked about the best beginner guitar brands, we now have to move on to the models of the aforementioned companies that are best for newbies as many of them make guitars for professionals as well. You can learn your way through a guitar made for an expert with enormous time and effort, but it would be easier if you pick out a model that has been designed to assist the un-calloused hand. Epiphone Les Paul 100 Electric Guitar Oh yes, you can get a Les Paul guitar as a beginner model. The Epiphone Les Paul 100 is an excellent guitar for all beginners as it comes with separate tone and volume controls. The interface is extremely user-friendly and as expected from a Les Paul guitar, the build is fantastic. It is made up of Mahogany wood, producing crisp premium sounds. The Epiphone Les Paul 100 has the classic Les Paul look, produces beautiful sounds, and has a very affordable price tag. I don’t see any reason as to why a new student would not want to pick up this classic beginner guitar that has everything going for it! Yamaha Pacifica Series PAC112V Yamaha guitars as mentioned before are not only extremely affordable but also well made. They sound worldly and please a beginner and a seasoned pro alike. The Yamaha Pacifica Series PAC112V ( a complicated name but not a complicated guitar haha) is exactly what you would expect from a Yamaha guitar: Pristine built quality that does not burn a hole in your wallet. It comes with a maple bolt-neck and rosewood fingerboard, with a classic tremolo with block saddles. With a price tag of 299$, you can have the reliability and the Yamaha sound in one package. A great choice for both beginners and pros! Fender Modern Player Telecaster Thinline Deluxe Fender has provided us with some of the classiest guitars of all time, guitars that don’t skimp out on quality because they can bring in the customers solely on their name, guitars that perform well under all circumstances. The Fender Modern Player Telecaster Thinline Deluxe is a perfect all-rounder and the best choice if you are a beginner looking to get a long-term companion at the start of his journey into the world of music. It can be tuned easily and offers both aggressive as well as sweet tones all the while looking like hot as fire! It is a safe choice and a long-lasting choice. Perfect for an acoustic player switching over to the electric guitar. About me: I Jai Ashok Mahtani, I like to sing, dance and my favorite musical instrument is the guitar, so you can also call me a guitarist.

What Type Of Guitar To Choose For A Beginner?

A guitar is probably one of the most popular instruments that newbies in the music field want to try out. I am both a guitar player and a guitar teacher who has found numerous students ( especially male ) come up and ask me to teach them the guitar in order to impress people whether it be peers, parents, or just the whole world haha.
The guitar is one of the most soothing instruments I’ve ever played and having watched my own students strum up hymns that they dance their head to or combinations they have created themselves gave me the utmost pleasure of being a musician. The guitar is an enchanting instrument and there is no doubt about that.
Sadly, many students tend to quit this enchanting instrument since it is not so ‘enchanting’ on the fingers. That is the case when students start off with the hard strings and the long fretboard of an acoustic guitar. So it made me wonder whether following the strict traditions of developing calluses on an acoustic guitar is the way to go or can we shake things up in the modern era.
That’s why I, Jai Ashok Mahtani, will discuss what type of guitars beginners should pick up when they enter the world of strums, strings, and chords.
The Obvious Choice
The obvious choice in choosing your first guitar would be an acoustic one. Why you may ask? Well, it’s because it’s the norm!
No, but seriously, the practice of starting up with an acoustic guitar is beneficial for a new student as it helps you get your fingertips hard for the future solos and extreme chords you will perform. Not only that, an acoustic guitar comes with a larger fretboard which helps up in building up the dexterity and flexibility of the player.
Adding more the ‘boring’ guitar teacher talk, acoustic guitars also work on producing sound with the help of their hollow body. That means that unlike in an electric guitar where the strings are used to produce electrical signals that are then converted to sound by an amplifier, in an acoustic guitar the sound is amplified by the hollow body itself. Not to mention that an amplifier costs a lot of money, so the price of an electric guitar piled on with the cost of an amplifier may be more than enough for students but more importantly their parents to be scared away from the world of guitars.
Though those points are not the only one that an acoustic guitar has going for it, there are many more advantages that an advanced guitar player gets to know after playing both the electrical and the acoustic guitar. And the biggest advantage is the acoustic guitars’ portability. An acoustic guitar can be played wherever you want without the need of electricity or the more obvious one, carrying around a huge amplifier on you at all times. Personally, though, I like the soothing vibrations of the acoustic more than the power of the electric.
The Power Of Electricity
Electric guitars are awesome and everyone can agree on that. They are the ones that attract the more showbiz and eccentric students of mine, but there is a catch though.
For starters, as already mentioned, the electric guitar can’t be played without a costly amplifier. It can be a little overwhelming for a newbie to take care of not only his guitar but also of his amplifier, not to mention the sneaky picks that every guitarist has to buy on a weekly basis.
Moreover, the electric guitar has softer strings and a narrower fretboard. The sound’s intensity and quality are not dependent on the strength of the player’s fingers or strumming hand, it is dependent on the amplifier. So as a guitar teacher, I’d have to not recommend an electric guitar for a new student as it doesn’t really help in developing the physical strength needed to perform those crazy blood writhing solos of slasher!
Though one thing I’d have to admit is that electric guitars are fun. They catch the attention of new students as they are more on the flashy side but are also quite fun to play. So I am not totally against a new student picking up an electric guitar as their first one.
Final Verdict
I am sorry to tell you but there is no final verdict. Yeah, that may sound like a disappointment but hear me out.
I am a guitar teacher so I obviously prefer to do things the traditional way. Let students tread the difficult path filled with calluses and patience. Only then can they truly become a dignified guitar player. I believe that pain and hardship in addition to the devotion of time are essential for learning the art of music and using tools in the shape of an instrument.
But that is Jai Ashok Mahtani’s point of view, a guitar teacher’s point of view.
The guitar is near and dear to me. I think of it as a machine that can make me one with my emotions and make my emotions one with the world. But that is not the case with everyone.
Some students might just want to pick up a guitar for a little while to have some fun and learn a new instrument in the meanwhile. Some students might just subjectively be drawn to an electric or an acoustic guitar, and I, as a good guitar teacher, can’t stop students from having fun playing an instrument just because it is the right way.
The truth is there is no right way to start with guitars. There is no definite right way in music. It all depends on whether the player is flowing with the motion of the music or not.
If you want to start with an electric guitar despite learning of its downsides like expensive amplifiers and future difficulty in playing complex songs, then by all means go for it!
If you want to pick up an acoustic guitar because you want to do things the traditional way or like the calming strums of the hollow body more, then by all means go for it!
All that matters is that you have fun while playing one of the most soothing instruments I have ever held in my life. Cheers!
