Final: Assignment #13
Write a blog post about the most useful information you learned this semester.
Why was this information so useful to you?
How have you incorporated this information into your life?
Will you continue to use this information after this semester?
I think that the most useful information I learned this semester was the various different applications of Minecraft and Immersive Technology in today's world. I found it very interesting to see current use cases for immersive and virtual technologies, such as Minecraft, and it got me thinking about what other ways it can be used. One of the most interesting for me was using Minecraft to assist students with learning disabilities and autism.
Recently, with the destruction of Notre Dame, I saw a very interesting article about how the upcoming game Assassins Creed will be used to actually rebuild the historic monument. The developers of Assassins Creed created a 100% accurate virtual map of Notre Dame prior to the fire, with billions of data points. This data is now invaluable and will be used to rebuild the church. Had the virtual map of Notre Dame not been created for the video game, it is likely we would have never been able to rebuild the church.
I think virtual maps of real-life monuments, buildings, destinations etc. will become more and more valuable as data grows and becomes more useable.

Final: Assignment #12 Cross Compatibility
Write a blog post detailing the cross-compatibility issues we encountered with Spreadsheets and Presentations this semester.
What were the common errors?
How were they resolved?
Was there any consistency in the errors and solutions?
Cite specific examples.
Overall, I didn’t run into too many issues surrounding cross-compatibility with spreadsheets and presentations. However, what I did notice most often was font, layout, colors, and issues with templates lining up one application to the next. For example; when I created a presentation from a template in LibreOffice, saved it as a ppt, and opened it in Microsoft PowerPoint, the colors, theme, layout and other aspects did not transfer over properly. This is because there are different series of fonts, templates, transitions etc. between the various applications that do not line up perfectly with each other. Unlike a PDF which is readable among nearly any device/system, things like this do not line up perfectly. Another issue I ran into was when creating a spreadsheet in LibreOffice and transferring it to Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel. The cells did not line up as they should and a lot of the text was cut off due to this. When I tried clicking to highlight the text and shrink it to fit, it would just get messy.
To resolve most of these issues, I simply used the file as a ‘template’ of my own, deleted the text/images/font etc, and replaced it with a format that worked properly in the application.

Final: Assignment #8 Minecraft Blog Post
Minecraft is an international phenomenon.
Write a blog post describing your experiences working with Minecraft.
Was it what you expected?
Did you find it “easy” or “difficult”?
Do you understand why it is so popular or are you unsure why?
I have always loved using Minecraft and used to pass time building mega-mansions and underground caves. Since I used to play Minecraft, and Survivalcraft, a lot as a kid it was exactly what I had expected and remembered. I find it to be a pretty easy to understand application once you get the hang of it. For first time users, I think understanding the basics like we did in the first couple of classes is very important. It’s good to know that you have to start with things like rock, wood, coal etc in order to build the basic survival items like a crafting table, tools, weapons, fire etc.
I can see why Minecraft is so popular because it really brings out the creativity in you. Being that it is a completley open world to explore, there is always something new to see and do. Additionally, as we discussed in class, it has a lot of very cool use cases in education for younger and older students.

Final: Assignment #3
For this assignment, I used Microsoft Word and exported the file as a PDF to my desktop on my computer. The biggest advantage of using a PDF, which stands for Portable Document Format, is that it is useable on nearly every operating system including Windows, Mac, Android, iOS and more. It is independent from the actual device and its software so it will be compatible across various devices when sharing. Therefore, you can save a Word doc as a PDF and open it in Google Drive, an iOS device, or a tablet.

Class 14 Homework #2: Productivity Software
I think if I were to make a detailed project for a client, I would use Google Slides. I feel that Google is the easiest the access and the easiest to edit, and it is used by pretty much everyone which allows for easier collaboration. Additionally, I like that Google Slides can be pulled up on nearly any device such as tablets, laptops, desktops and mobile phones - and can also be edited on the same devices. Finally, the biggest reason why I like to use Google for presentations, documents and sheets is because of the auto-save. Just last week at work I was writing my 3 month performance review using Microsoft Word. I didn’t think to save as I was going, and after nearly 1.5hr of working on the doc, Word crashed and I lost everything! So I went back the next day and rewrote the document in Google Docs with no issues. I was also able to pick up on it where I left off at home from a different computer without any additional work.
