Cosmo Gang Comic Find!
Tumblr media
Special thanks to anonymous user 128 for this find! From the April 1993 issue of Comic Bom Bom! Link -> Cosmo Gang’s World: Untouchable Cosmo Police (April 1993 Comic Bom Bom) : Yoshimi Wamada : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive
I have too much to say right now but I do love the art for this comic! It looks like the official art for the series but more silly and it's just so cool that this was found!
Tumblr media
This episode seems to be how the Untoucher team met the monster bird called Bakamonder! This bird does have a figure in the figurine set but I have not seen it anywhere else until now!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's sakura season and Don Cosmo wants to see some sakura trees but plants don't grow well on Ankoku so he takes it out on Bakuto. Meanwhile on the planet everyone is just chillin with the sakura trees.
Tumblr media
It was calm until the trees start moving on their own! Also apparently Doricon can see through objects.
Tumblr media
It was worms, Cosmo Gang branded worms! Bakuto shows up ready to attack with his army of jammers and now these worms!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cosmo Gang worms are more of a threat than you would think and the team ends up surrounded by worms. Luckily, Bakamonder can eat the worms!
Tumblr media
Also that cheerleader is not a random new character, I believe that is a crossdressing Ottoness, good for him!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All the worms left fuse into a big worm and catch Bakamonder in some string but now Ottoness can come in and save the day! In the end he has to pick worms out for Bakamonder! I forgot to mention at the start but Ottoness hates worms.
Tumblr media
Now for a few more notes I could only put here at the end.
-Cool seems to have different types of guns and some sort of headset on his left ear.
-Bakamonder is Pearl's pet bird that she just got for some reason.
-Sometimes Ottoness is called "Ness" here so it must be a nickname for him!
I didn't post the whole comic here (just most of it because I got too excited while taking about this :3 ) so please use the link at the top to see it for yourself!

Hello! I’ve seen your Tumblr page and I’ve gotten into Cosmo Gang recently. I really appreciate your posts! I managed to get a hold of the April 1993 edition of the Cosmo Gang’s World: Untouchable Cosmo Police manga in Comic Bom Bom, and I uploaded it entirely onto Internet Archive here: https://archive.org/details/img-5439_202501/IMG_5423.jpeg
So far, it’s the only full upload of a single episode of the Cosmo Gang manga. I haven’t translated it fully yet, but I made sure that the words are legible. I hope you enjoy it!
AAAAAAAAAAAHhhhhhsnswie j you are the BEST my guy!

Thanks to an online resource -> おれたちボンボン団 I can determine exactly how many episodes there were of the Cosmo Gang comic "Cosmo Gangs World Untouchable Cosmo Police"! This comic was created by はまだよしみ (Yoshimi Wamada)
Another resource I used -> RANDOM HOO HAAS .:. Scans & Bits (Comic Bom Bom)
-1st episode (?) Comic Bombom Winter Vacation issue 1992
Tumblr media
The first issue of the comic is here but the series didn't continue until February 1993. The site above lists the 1993 issue as the first in the series so this issue in the Winter Vacation special must have been a test episode of sorts. All the other episodes can be found in the regular issues of Comic Bonbon
-1st episode (of the proper series) February 1993
-2nd episode March 1993
-3rd episode April 1993
-4th episode May 1993
-5th episode June 1993
-6th episode July 1993
-7th episode August 1993 Final Episode!
The comic stopped being published after the final episode and was never reprinted. The series could have ended for any reason, It could have been a story that ended naturally, or it may have been canceled.
The only things I can find from this comics are images that were published online but not the full comic or even any full episodes.

Quick correction to the timeline
In the first timeline post of mine I stated that it was Cosmo Gang the Video that established the Cosmo police characters. I am now wrong because of the discovery of Cosmo Bazooka, it came out in 1991 before the Video! The corrected timeline would look like this
Cosmo Gangs (redemption game) 1990
-First game! Fight off the Jammers (Cosmos) that are trying to steal your energy! Can be played with one or two players.
Cosmo Bazooka 1991
-A 6 player game (or 1-6 players?) where players hit the Cosmo Gang members with balls from a bazooka. The game is mostly lost but seemed to be the game that introduced the Cosmo Police.
Cosmo Gang the Video 1992
-Shooter game where the player used the Hyperbeat to defeat the Cosmo Gangs!
Cosmo Gang the Puzzle 1992 (1993 SFC)
-A puzzle game (that's not Tetris!) where the player would line up Jammers and containers in a way where all the Jammers could be knocked out with a ball! Can be one or two player. There was a SFC port that added the 100 puzzle mode.
Untouchable Cosmo Police Feb 1993 (*Dec 1992)
-A comic that released in Comic BomBom. *There seems to be a test run/ pilot episode that came out in December of 1992.
Cosmo Police Untoucher (redemption game) March 1993
-Not to be confused with the comic with the very similar name. (In Japanese the comic is called "Cosmo Gangs World: Cosmo Police Untoucher" while the game is just "Cosmo Police Untoucher".) For the comic I used the name that some manga sites use to help differentiate the two.
-This is a game where the player controlled Ottoness in the Patobeat and would hit/ run into the Cosmo Gangs! If the player got a high score they would win a figure of a Cosmo Gangs World character!
Namco Game Sound Express Vol 8. 1993
-While not a game this is a cd that contains some music tracks from The Video and The Puzzle. It also came with a booklet that had comments from the developers and had pictures of some characters.
Dodongadon / Belly Bomber 1994
-A spinoff (?) that focused on the Dodongadon character. Players would roll balls at Dodongadon to hit them in the bellybutton that was the weak spot.

Vehicles
Tumblr media
Talking about the various vehicles seen in Cosmo Gang!
Boss UFO:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ufo Bakuto is seen using and the same ufo seen on the very first Cosmo Gang elemecha game. Found in pretty much every part of the Cosmo Gang series. In Cosmo Gang the Video Bakuto uses this ufo to give himself and extra hit and can be seen sitting in the ufo during the first challenge stage based on the original Cosmo Gangs. In Cosmo Gang the Puzzle the Boss UFO is seen again as Bakuto's ship as he is the first player character. The exact size of the ufo seems to vary.
Mini UFO:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ufos that Cosmos/ Jammers use. They are seen in Cosmo Gang the Video where it takes two hits to defeat them. When first hit they will attempt to charge at the player. Mini ufos are also seen in Cosmo Bazooka as targets to hit, in Cosmo Gang the Puzzle during the 10 stage breaks in the 100 puzzle mode, and in the comic from this one panel.
Hyperbeat:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The player's ship in Cosmo Gang the Video. It is used by the Cosmo Police Untoucher team and there are two of them. The one seen in art though is the white Hyperbeat which is actually the ship for player two in the game. The yellow ship for player one does not seem to have any art. The Hyperbeat can shoot a single basic shot on it's own but can be upgraded with a power up to shoot two shots at once! In artwork Ottoness is the only character seen in the Hyperbeat.
Patobeat:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The vehicle that was used in the Cosmo Police Untoucher elemecha game. There the Patobeat was piloted by Ottoness and used to hit the Cosmo Gang members. It is also seen in Cosmo Gang the Puzzle as Ottoness is the second player character in that game. It seems like the Patobeat was also the main ship used by Ottoness in the Untouchable Cosmo Police comic.
Patorider:
Tumblr media
Not seen in any games, this bike-like vehicle is only seen used by Cool of the Untoucher team in some art work. It is also seen in that picture of the comic above, also used by Cool. A figure of this vehicle does exist though as one of the prizes from Cosmo Police Untoucher.
Bumpy:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looks like the main vehicle the Untoucher team works from and it is not seen in any of the games. The only artwork of Bumpy comes from the CD booklet that came with Namco Game Sound Express Volume 8. It is described as having the ability to switch between a form that drives on the ground, to a flying form with arms. Possibly featured in the comic as well as seen in the picture above.
Note: all the comic pictures are from the same one page I was able to find off google.

Two types of plush
There seems to be two types of plush for the Cosmo Gang series. Standard plush types and smaller ones that were keychains.
Tumblr media
Standard Firs
Tumblr media
Keychain Firs (well to the far left)
There were a good number of characters that got the plush treatment, the ones I have seen so far are...
Standard plush: Cosmos (Jammers), Bakuto, Dodongadon, Ottoness, Cool, Firs, Doricon, Gigasu (looks like a Dodongadon but with an eye patch)
Keychains: Firs, Bang, Jammers, Jammercon, Cool, Bakuto, Gigasu
More characters may exist but these are just the ones I have seen show up online. Also some characters have different designs for each type of plush (like the Firs I showed here) where the larger one has a sword.
Tumblr media
Ad found in the NHOURS magazine- Volume 1 Summer 1993
I don't know the exact places to get these guys but this ad mentions that there will be only 100 winners at a crane game. (Damn no wonder these guys are so rare). As for the keychains even LESS is known about them.
BONUS: This is a Gigasu keychain btw. Take note of the eye patch on the left eye, the black wings and antennae, and the differently colored horn on the nose compared to the standard Dodongadon.

The Lost(?) Third Game
Taken from the NG Namco Community Magazine, Issue 52 (no link as of posting, see note*)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a developer interview/ question and answer article for Cosmo Gang the Puzzle. All of this is very interesting but there is this final section at the end...
Tumblr media
Something about a 3rd Cosmo Gang game!? The names listed here and what type of game they would (or could have been) are
1 Cosmo Gang the Quiz - quiz game
2 Cosmo Gang the Battle - Fighting game(?)
3 Cosmo Gang the Paddle- block breaker
4 Cosmo Gang the Tennis - Tennis game
It's unknown if any third Cosmo Gang video game was in development or if any of these names and concepts were seriously considered.
(Note: This article was found on the Internet Archive but on the original day of posting (October 13, 2024) the archive is down and I could not access the webpage where this issue of NG was found.)

Another Cosmo Bazooka update!
Tumblr media
Credit for this image goes to Wonder Eggs 思い出アルバム カーニバルアーケード (fc2.com)
This is the best image of Cosmo Bazooka yet! Taken from a blog about the Wonder Eggs amusement park.
The Jammers in the back are actually in the Mini UFOs while the ones closer to the front seem to be on a parachute(?) of some sort. Now wondering, does Bakuto appear in this game? He shows up in every other Cosmo Gang game. Is it a voice only appearance? Still have no audio of this game as of the writing of this post.
EDIT: forgot to add this picture of a Jammer in a Mini UFO for reference :D

Frick you, Cosmo Gangs posting
I am going to be talking about Cosmo Gangs and you are going to like it! >:]
Tumblr media
The Cosmo Gang is the main group in the series but then there is the Cosmo Police team that fights the gang! The team is called Untoucher and there are 6 members (only 5 are pictured here though...)
The guy in the center is Ottoness and he is the leader of the team. (better picture below)
Tumblr media
He is also the player character in Cosmo Gang the Video but he is in the Hyper beat (the player ship) and is only seen in the manual.
Tumblr media
I have an entire folder on my computer dedicated to pictures of Ottoness I love him so much
The guy with the shades is Cool (<- that's his name) and he seems to be the best with shooting. He might be the player 2 character in Cosmo Gang the Video.
Tumblr media
The guy with the white mustache is Firs(?) (I think that's his name). He seems to be watching over Ottoness and in the comic "Untouchable Cosmo Police" he has a sword. There is a plush of this guy holding a sword so he must have it there.
Tumblr media
The purple one is Doricon (?) and he is a different type of alien than the rest of the Untoucher team. He seems chill I like him.
Tumblr media
The guy with the glasses is Chanter (?) and he seems to be in charge of fundraising for the team. Seems to be the nerdy type.
Tumblr media
There is a 6th member that does not seem to have any official art of her. The only colored art I could find is from a flyer for the arcade version of Cosmo Gang the Puzzle.
Tumblr media
This is Pearl (full name Pearl Peirce?) and she is the only girl on the team! She has a larger role in the "Untouchable Cosmo Police" comic but otherwise I can't find much on her. Like even less than the other characters. But she is cute and I like her.
There is a booklet that came with the Namco Game Sound Express vol.8 that showed all the characters in the Cosmo Gangs world but Pearl is not shown here despite her existing at the time.
Tumblr media
Pearl as seen in the comic because I like her so much
Tumblr media
her 💗

Cosmo Gang the Puzzle on Nintendo Switch Online!
Not my typical post but just wanted to say how excited I am that Cosmo Gang is now on NSO!
Tumblr media
This was the exact night the game dropped. I even downloaded the SFC online app so I could play, before I found out it was also on the Super Nintendo online app as well (my bad lol).
Tumblr media
Was playing through the 100 puzzle mode and got to one of the 10 stage checkpoints!
Tumblr media
Scores (my score is MLT!02 btw)
Something to note about the cosmic record score background, is that it features characters like Bakuto, Dodongadon, and the members of Cosmo Police Untoucher! The members shown here are Ottoness (the leader), Chanter, Doricon, Cool, and Firs, but there are actually 6 members of the team! The 6th member Pearl is not seen here for some reason...
Tumblr media
She is seen on the flyer for the arcade release of this game though.

Cosmo Police Untoucher (arcade)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are (at least) two flyers for Cosmo Police Untoucher but the one on the right seems to be using drawn art of the machine rather than a picture.
Tumblr media
First off the design for the top sign is different along with the logo for Cosmo Police Untoucher. The design of the time, score, and high score section looks different as well. The rest of the differences seem to be to the colors of various items and the decals near the player's steering.
Tumblr media
It looks like the art I described above may have concept art for what the final arcade game might look like and that some details were changed.

Cosmo Bazooka caught on video!
youtube
Go to the 6:51 mark of the video. It's a blink and you'll miss it moment!
The previously covered Cosmo Bazooka, a lost game in the Cosmo Gangs series, was (briefly) seen in this promotional video for the Wonder Eggs park! It was a theme park Namco had starting in 1992 and ending in 2000. The park rebranded twice during this period to Wonder Eggs 2, and Wonder Eggs 3. This video seems to be for the 1992 version of the park.
As for Cosmo Bazooka it looks as if the UFOs in the back moved up and down and there were 6 for each player. The Jammers(?) closer to the front would move right and left going across player lanes.
There is a second (very small) moment at around the 7:57 mark where only the player bazookas can be seen. The only new thing I figured out about them is that they light up at the top, seemingly when shooting out the balls(?)
Tumblr media
The best previous photo of Cosmo Bazooka for reference.
This is just a personal observation but how is it easier to find photos (and VIDEO) of Cosmo Bazooka, a game that existed in few places, than it is to find ANY single photo of a Cosmo Police Untoucher machine?! In theory Cosmo Bazooka should have been the harder game to find information on, but in practice...

Cosmo Bazooka Update!
I previously covered Cosmo Bazooka in a previous post of mine. It was a game in the Cosmo Gangs series where players would hit the gang members with balls from a bazooka. The game was set up in few stores but never seemed to take off. The machine for the game was large and took up lots of space so that may have been the reason for it disapearing.
While inspecting issues of the NG magazine I found MORE coverage of Cosmo Bazooka!
Tumblr media
NG Namco Community Magazine Issue 51, page 7. Found via the Internet Archive
It seems like there were six play areas but it is unknown if the players were meant to be working together. With only pictures it is hard to tell how the Jammers would move around the play area, but I doubt any videos of this game would be discovered now.
As for the year it seems like Cosmo Bazooka came out around 1991, so in-between the original Cosmo Gangs and Cosmo Gang the Video in terms of the timeline.
