So far Blood Over Bright Haven reminds me of Babel, in the way that it's trying to force the characters and the reader themselves to come to terms with the atrocities committed on a daily basis to uphold the first world's levels of comfort and ease.

It's a bit clunkier so far, but I'm really digging it.

At some point, there has to be a river, or what good can you really claim? If the man of good intentions never manifests a river, only calamity, should he not be damned to hell?”

And like I actually love that, it's a great bit of character work showing that even as she faces discrimination for her gender, she still was engrossed in this culture of racism for so long she believes it about the Kwen people, despite the fact that the things said about them are basically the same things the other mages say about her and other women.
