Morning drag race at the LA River. I think I’m finding what I’m looking for. Whenever I start to noodle I switch to crayon. Helps me not take things too seriously so I can enjoy this and stay loose. Even bad decisions become part of the painting as I layer over it. Stepping away from this one for now. I probably won’t know what I’m looking for out of this until I do a few (dozen) more. I like the cohesive palette, graphic elements, skinny lines vs fatter brushstrokes, pleasant feeling, and imperfect quality of this… but I just won’t know until I have more to compare it to. I did enjoy painting this more than previous works, because I stayed away from anything I wasn’t interested in. No noodling, no slavery to the reference. I think I could loosen up more actually.
