Kirklandd

Our local celebrity is about to go world wide! Kirklandd is a Canberra artist who is picking up a lot of traction and it sure is well deserved. Kirklandd finds inspiration from artists like Jean Dawson and Kenny Hoopla. Growing up, he found a love for punk, alternative and hip hop music. Now you can see these genres coming out in his own style. His recent songs, known as ‘SUCCESS $TAINS (duology)’, explore what it’s like to be successful in both a positive and negative light. Success is something everyone wants but often, it comes with a price. The first track shows the confidence that can come with success whereas the second track shows a more doubtful side where he questions his motives and the path he is on. Kirlandd shows us that you can be confident as well as vulnerable. The two tracks show a balanced perspective of his relationship with his success. But don’t get too comfortable just yet because there’s new tunes just around the corner. ‘SUCCESS $TAINS: The Mixtape’ will truly showcase the music Kirklandd wants us to hear. It will add more to the stories we have been told in the duology and experience some new tales. You can expect it to be weird, experimental and filled with fun. Now that covid restrictions have eased, Kirklandd is traveling all around the country playing shows. He is energetic and passionate and knows how to get a crowd going. st.sinner

Australia’s next big thing? I think yes! st.sinner has been killing it on the local scene and in the digital world. If you’re a fan of Yungblud, Bring Me The Horizon and sticking it to the man, you’re bound to love st.sinner and his band The Revelators. They’re a group of misfits who want to have fun while speaking some truths and boy, do they know how to put on a show! The debut song Mr Prime Minister was released towards the end of 2020. It received great reviews on Triple J Unearthed and caught the attention of many radio stations and magazines around the nation. The song is sitting at a massive 40 thousand plays on Spotify and of course has an awesome music video to go with it. Last year, st.sinner released his EP Politics and other Drugs. This EP explores topics that he’s angry about and shines a light on what media tends to sweep under the carpet. It’s an EP that you can get mad at and simultaneously dance to. It encourages us show our emotion because after all, we’re only human. Since the release of the EP, st.sinner and his band have been busy playing shows with the finest local artists. In fact, their very first show sold out so it’s obvious that they’re in demand. They’ve got big energy that gets the crowd going and they aren’t afraid to speak their truth. Box Dye

Looking for nostalgia and good mates? Get down to a Box Dye show! Inspired by 90s and early 2000s pop punk, they’re bringing back the plaid and that same sound to match but of course with their own personal touches. This trio represents our need to dye our hair while listening to punk music; the rebellion, the need to express ourselves and embrace who we are. Box Dye are big supporters of live music. You can see them at other gigs around town rocking out to their fellow musicians and when they get up on stage, there’s always high energy. They’ve just released their third single, Best Friends Kids which is honest, punky and has a clean sound. It features punchy guitars, great harmonies and you can bet that your toes will start tapping before the chorus starts. The band describe the song as a love letter to the friends of parents who guide teens and young adults through life without judgment; allowing people to explore and experiment to find their true self. So, when you next go down the hair dye aisle of your local supermarket, put your headphones on and play some Box Dye to help you make that colour decision. The future will see them playing many interstate shows and of course releasing a whole lot more bangers. Though their hair might be bright, I can tell you Box Dye’s future is even brighter! Rose Valley Road

If you’re a fan of iconic rock legends, you’re going to love these guys. Rose Valley Road may be young in age but certainly not at heart. They cover classic rock songs like ACDC’s “Let There Be Rock” and Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil”. This 4 piece band also finds inspiration from footage recorded of the iconic Woodstock festival, old school blues songs and poetry of many kinds. Rose Valley Road is made up of Bryce playing the funky bass notes, Sam keeping everyone in time on the drums, Nicholas on the power vocals and topping it all off is Seb playing fast paced guitar solos. Rose Valley Road perform some killer originals including Midnight Rain; their crowd pleasing punchy sing-a-long and Better Place; a bluesy tune with soulful lyrics that will get you dancing. These guys love performing and give it all they’ve got; sometimes literally with encores that leave them performing on the floor from exhaustion. They also love supporting the local scene, going to gigs around town. Their modesty of their talents is humbling but I can assure you that Rose Valley Road are definitely going somewhere big. They are currently working on their long anticipated EP with all your favourite songs.

Fvceless

Fvceless are a two piece, multi-genre masterpiece residing in the small town of Cooma, NSW. Their main influences include a wide array of musicians such as the king of rap, Eminem; pop sensations Dua Lipa and Sia; and alternative idols Twenty One Pilots and Paramore. In this past year they have really shaken up the Canberra music scene with their unique sounds and show stopping performances. In August they performed at Snowtunes festival alongside iconic artists such as Vera Blue and The Rubens. 2019 also brought in 2 new high quality music videos from Fvceless which gives an insight on the story they want to tell with their music. Fvceless are hard working, inspiring and passionate about what they do and they give their absolute all in every performance. The two of them manage to sound like a full band by rotating bass, guitar, keys, synth and drums. Carefully composed backing tracks tie it all in while the duo rock out on their many instruments. Sarah will wow you with her enchanting vocals and you can always expect some fast raps from Rory as well as some sneaky high vocal runs while he sings. Songs like Shark_Eyes and Bury Me make you question what it is to have toxic people surrounding you and what it’s like to face your inner demons. Furthermore, Fvceless care about all the important issues and they do everything they can to create a safe space for all in their community.

those little things on ur nose aren’t blackheads, don’t try and get rid of them they’re sebaceous filaments and they’re permanent and literally everyone has them

every girl has that little pouch of fat on her lower tummy, despite what magazines try n show u, you have important organs there that need to be protected don’t try and get rid of ur pouch

ur body is smarter than u think and it knows what to do when u eat more than normal. one bad day, or even week, of eating poorly isn’t gonna ruin anything at all I pinky promise

if u think u look good up until u try taking a selfie, it’s not ur fault - our faces are asymmetrical and when u see ur face flipped it will look unnatural to u, since u don’t see it that way when u look in the mirror. to everyone else it looks perfectly fine

no one’s stomach looks the same at 8pm as it does at 8am. no one has a chiseled six pack after a day of eating, not even the super fit people u see on tumblr, because ur stomach naturally expands after eating and expecting to have a flat tummy before bed is very unrealistic

no one notices if the bags under ur eyes are bad today. no one pays attention to the bump in ur nose or the zit on ur chin or the piece of hair that u missed when u were straightening. literally no one notices these things except you so stop worrying about it ur gonna be fine

we’re grateful for the opportunity to make music which serves as a very important release/escape from all sorts of issues of the mind and if you’ve listened to our music then we’re thankful you’ve allowed us to be a part of your life. we hope it’s helped. we’ll most likely keep creating around the discomfort of sadness/depression/darkness, etc. & we’ll keep fighting the good fight with you. celebrate #WorldMentalHealthDay by prioritizing your mind. that choice alone is a victory. and if you need motivation, music always helps.

Honestly something that bothers me more than most things is having my compassion mistaken for naivety.

I know that another fish might eat this bullfrog right after I spend months rehabilitating it.

I know that turning a beetle back onto its legs won’t save it from falling over again when I walk away.

I know that there is no cosmic reward waiting for my soul based on how many worms I pick off a hot sidewalk to put into the mud, or how many times I’ve helped a a raccoon climb out of a too-deep trashcan. 

I know things suffer, and things struggle, and things die uselessly all day long. I’m young and idealistic, but I’m not literally a child. I would never judge another person for walking by an injured bird, for ignoring a worm, or for not really caring about the fate of a frog in a pond full of, y’know, plenty of other frogs.

There is nothing wrong with that.

But I cannot cannot cannot look at something struggling and ignore it if I may have the power to help.

There is so much bad stuff in this world so far beyond my control, that I take comfort in the smallest, most thankless tasks. It’s a relief to say “I can help you in this moment,” even though they don’t understand.

I don’t need a devil’s advocate to tell me another fish probably ate that frog when I let it go, or that the raccoon probably ended up trapped in another dumpster the next night.

I know!!!! I know!!!!!!! But today I had the power to help! So I did! And it made me happy!

So just leave me alone alright thank u!!!!
