Narrative Animation Research
I chose to look at this video as i can’t really find animations with spoken word synced with text, so i settled with another lyric video. I enjoyed this one as it’s not just a flat 2D animation there is live action with a mix of editing to add some of the lyrics in. The timing is really good as well for the text and audio it makes me wonder how much work went into getting everything perfect so it was in sync with each other by the end of it all. The video overall is very creative, i especially love when the girl flips the paper in the mirror, the timing for it is perfect and you’d think there would be an issue with where the viewers eyes divert but i had no issue knowing which side should be read first. I also really enjoy the text appearing when the water is being thrown on the ground, they are all very creative ways to unveil text. Over all this is a very good quality lyric video and i hope to achieve the same kind of time sync at least as this video.

Narrative Animation Research
This is the second video I've chosen to look at. I chose to look at this video as it is completely different to the first video i looked at for this research (FRIENDS by Marshmello and Anne-Marie). It is visually very pleasing to watch in general, there is so much going on in the video and the way they have manipulated the text to work with the visuals is stunning. I especially like the chorus animation with the snakes and how the text is winding with the snakes and also how the broken mirror breaks up the text, you can tell a lot of hard work went into animating this video. Each verse is a different animation which is very refreshing to watch and hectic at the same time, though some animations are repeated. While researching I realised Taylor Swift did not credit the animator in the video bio at all, so i had to dig a little but i do believe the animator/s for the video are Jeremy Rumus, Sean Wehrli & Blake Patrick and the video was produced by Joseph Kahn & Taylor Swift. I really like how the text fits into the objects in the video i wish to create something like that possibly in my final outcome if there is enough time. They have used a limited colour pallet which i can also appreciate and enjoy when I see it being used.

Narrative Animation Research
This is the first video I decided to look at for my research for my narrative animation project, although for my work I am not creating a lyric video I think the technique is similar to what I would like to create for my final outcome, including a mix media of images and art. The video was produced and directed by Toon53 Productions, an animation company in South Africa. I really like how they animated the characters for this video, they are full of emotions visually and the lyrics come across nicely in the girls facial expressions. I also feel the sync with the audio overall was a great job it fits perfectly in time. I appreciate how the whole animation looks like it could’ve been hand drawn and imported in possibly which gives it a really nice style to it. The one down fall i’d say is not much variety was added to the text animation at all, each word just fades in as its sung which doesn’t add much excitement in my opinion. It works well as a music lyric video though, the text is easy and big enough to read and there is no struggle at any point with trying to read it.

Self Initiated Project Evaluation
I enjoyed working on my self Initiated project. Choosing a subject i enjoy as a whole, photography. I set out to document and take portrait images at the Hastings Jack On The Green and Bike 1066 festival, i feel the day over all went well. I feel if anything the only thing i wish had went differently was that i captured less blurry images, as i feel some images have real potential if they were in focus. The day was very successful for the turn out of people over all so there was plenty to take images on down in the Old Town and Pier. This post features the best images i feel i took on the day, mainly being on the pier strangely enough but maybe that’s out of personal preference. I enjoyed how colourful everyone dressed during the day it really made it easy to find interesting people to photograph. I also enjoy how many ‘moments’ i managed to capture such as the woman licking her lips or the seagulls collectively flying over the pier. Over all I am very happy with my final outcomes (not all featured on this post) and would enjoy doing it again.

Annie Leibovitz
Annie is a famously known portrait photographer, capturing movies stars the likes of Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway, Leonardo Dicaprio and many more. I wanted to look at a well known portrait photographer to get a good perspective on what a more professional setting is used for the images. The subjects in the images have more ‘staged’ expressions on their faces, which is understandable to an extent because some of her work are promotional images for movies such as: Les Mis and Star Wars. I do enjoy Annie’s work, the detailing in the subjects faces is very interesting to look at. She has also lit each image beautifully, with fitting backdrops to the feel of the images and emotions portrayed through them. I particularly enjoy her coupled pictures, they stand out more to me than the stand alone subjects.

John Decker
John is a photojournalist, with his work featuring in magazines/newspapers such as; The New York Times and TIME. He was also the staff photographer for Arnold Schwarzenegger. I’ve chose to look at johns work as it relates to the other photographers I have looked as thus far. Photographing working class people in some instances, John captures portrait photography, wedding photography, family portrait photography, and also photojournalism photography. In this post the images are from a collection called Carnival Workers which particularly captured my interest. Bringing back the relationship between the worker and their environment, in the first image i enjoy how the moment was captured so well timed of the worker pointing/talking at a customer or John, bringing some life to the image it doesn’t feel as old as it appears to be. In the second image we see a YOYO ride worker behind the ride. What i enjoy about this once again is how a moment has been captured of the ride in motion behind the worker who is giving a hard to read stare towards the camera. The whole collection is in black and white which also adds a eerie kind of atmosphere to the photographs.

Steve McCurry
Steve is a contemporary photographer, i chose to look at Steve as he is well known all round the photographer community. Most known for his photo of an Afghan girl, which was featured on the National Geographic’s June 1985 issue. I love the amount of colours that burst through each of these portraits, the contrasts of lots of blues and greens. I also really enjoy how detailed each subjects face is in the images, you can see each wrinkle and hair it’s stunning. Steve has taken images all around the word documenting and recording through his images civil conflicts, ‘He focuses on the human consequences of war, not only showing what war impresses on the landscape, but rather, on the human face. ‘ I can really appreciate photographers incorporating their surrounding environments with their subjects for their images.

Self Initiated Statement of intent
Aims/Content/Theme: I wish to gather and document a collection of portrait images I have taken from the Hastings Jack On The Green and Bike 1066 festival for May day 2018. I want to capture the feel of the festival but also the community that attends, hopefully not just for documentation sake but also to promote the festival as a whole. I also wish to gain more skills with using camera’s/lenses and also taking portrait images of people that are on a professional level. I hope to communicate that Hastings host a great festival overall.
Form/Format of outcome: My form is image making I shall take the images on the day and later edit them in Photoshop. I hope to edit the images to look relatively the same lighting and colour wise to keep the same feel throughout each image.
Process/medium: My process is image taking, on a DSLR camera with a 55-250mm lens and then later editing the pictures in Adobe Photoshop correction lighting and colours.
Professional Context: For my project I am looking to draw inspiration and insight from these photographers: Rosie Alice Foster, Annie Leibovitz, Steve mccurry, David Severn, John Decker.
Technical considerations: For this project I shall need a DSLR camera, including a selection lenses (just in case) and Photoshop.

David Severn
Caring on with my self initiated project research i was looking for documentation photographers, in my findings i came across David Severn’s work which not only documents the people he photographs but he also takes portraits which is just what im looking for. In the past David has produced images that have featured on: Vice magazine, The New York Times, The Telegraph, and many more. David on his website talks about his interest in people and peoples relationships with their work, past work has been themed around subjects such as ‘ The Society Left Behind by the Death of Britain's Mining Industry’ which was featured on Vice. The images in the series are very interesting and visually pleasant. I like David’s style of images, like Rosie who i talk about in a previous post he has a grainy film camera look to his photo’s which gives the images an illusion of age which works very well. ‘The photographs also look at young people coming of age amidst a post-industrial landscape and reflect upon their hopes, prospects, vulnerabilities and strengths.’. David is very good at relating his subjects to their environments, which i hope to reproduce myself in my project hopefully.

Self Initiated Project Research
Portrait Research
For my self initiated project i have chosen to do documentation and portrait photography for Hastings festival Jack On The Green, I chose a photography route as it’s something I've done well at in the past and something i also enjoy a lot in my free time. For my portrait research i wanted to look as Rosie Alice’s work, as I've been following her a while now and she’s even photographed people i know on some level! Rosie uses a film camera for her work, and in particular photographs women. Rosie has work up for Sticks and Stones Agency too. I love her work because you can tell from the images how comfortable all the models are and how she allows them to open up in front of her camera, i especially like the fact she uses a film camera, this brings a certain vintage and grainy style to the photo’s. She also uses a 35mm for all of her pictures i found out through research. “ I quickly discovered 35mm was my preferred way of shooting, mostly because I hate having too much of a choice. “ I think personally i may try and find a lens and stick with it. I really love the sense of looking at someone at their most comfortable and vulnerable in these images, Rosie manages to capture a side of these women probably most ‘followers’ don’t get to see. She is great example of how portrait photography should be done.

Hope To Nope: Graphics And Politics 2008-18
Me and my class went on a London Trip to the Design Museum in London to see the Hope To Nope exhibition they are showing at the moment. I found it very interesting and thought provoking overall and enjoyed the variety of things in the exhibition, from clothing to posters. Unaware some of these protests even happened myself shows how little coverage things like thing get. The main theme of the exhibition was protests by the looks of it. It put into perspective how community's of people can come together for a greater cause, but also how creative people can become too to try and get messages across no matter how bold or blunt the message. My favourite piece was defiantly the Donald Trump fortune teller which actually gives out fortune tokens that are hilarious. It was very uplifting but also not at the same time being there but i feel is necessary for people to go and visit if they can and care about the state in which our world is in at the moment.
