Left to rot.

An old bus in the middle of nowhere slowly decaying. Not a bad foreground subject for a wee bit of Milkyway action on the X-M5.

A semi-technical shot to execute, 22 frames to piece this together. A 20 image stack for the sky to help reduce noise, a blue hour shot for the bus and a final shot as it got dark to light the interior with a small flashlight. I pointed the light at the roof of the bus to allow for some reflected light spill onto the tussock surrounding it.

Autumn in New Zealand

Twizel and afternoon light.

I’ve found that the light here in the South Island has a different quality to it. Especially once you get past midday. It is much lower on the horizon for a given time of day than I’m used to and so spends much more time taking itself across the landscape in this way. Freakin love it.

One from the archives.

Pre dawn glow on Aoraki from Peter’s lookout on my first dedicated photography trip to the South Island (New Zealand). This was a “treat myself” trip to do a bit of healing after my wife passed away a little over 6 months earlier and a year after my Dad succumbed to cancer in 2021.

Definitely planted the seed to move here last year.

The Lindis Pass

New Zealand

It was a public holiday here in Aotearoa on Thursday. Rather than watch the goings on at Waitangi and getting (more) angry at our current government I jumped in the car with a roll of Portra 160 loaded in the Canon and the Fuji X-M5 with the 27mm bolted on. This shot is from the Fuji - Will be sending the film off next week provided I can get another 10 shots off. This is why I gravitate to Medium Format 6x9, 36 frames is too bloody much! Finishing a roll starts to become a chore - maybe I should look more closely at sheet film 😂

A mediocre photo of some overshot trees.

This is a commonly photographed spot in the area, typically from the other side of these trees with some old farm buildings making the obvious subject. Weirdly there was a movie set filming at this location today. Some uncharacteristic and fairly authentic looking Tipi hidden in the haze caused by the rain. Not sure the film crew were expecting this sort of summer weather 😂

(My internet research tells me it might be “East of Eden” for Netflix).

Glad to use the 100-200mm for a change - the 45-100mm still the MVP of course.
