Final Exam
Some of the most significant things that I have learned from this course are the differentiating art styles and how to identify them and that the true beauty of art derives from the purpose behind the piece. For example, although some artwork has beautiful penmanship, creativity and patience, sometimes learning the message behind a piece of art can be much more fulfilling.
The art that I chose to create today derives from inspiration with the upcoming holiday seasons and the color red, and the color of my nails. The first thing I did was look for some inspiration for how I wanted to draw my strawberries online then I began sketching. After sketching and drawing something I was happy with, I decided to go in with one of my sister's thickest paint brushes and use brown watercolor to make the paper look more aged. After that I went in with a thinner brush to use my red, green and orange watercolor.
The title of this piece of art is "Summer."

1. Jackson Pollock went from studying with Thomas Hart Benton and using abstract imagery in his paintings to removing all of the imagery in his paintings and creating horizontal canvas' with dripping paint. Some canvas' were spontaneous and vivacious while others were mocked and ridiculed. Pollock used hard brushes, sticks, and other household items to squirt and splash the paint all over the canvas. Jackson and Pollock had two very differentiating art styles though they inspired one another. Pollock was inspired by many to drip paint and began his process by simply pouring paint over a blank canvas. Pollock's drip painting technique led him to fame even though there are no identifiable features in his drip paintings. I believe he did this because he wanted his art to be different and carry a meaning that no other artist had ever created before. To do that, Pollock had to think creatively and he did. He took away any objective that viewers could focus on and wanted people to simply enjoy his artwork.
2. To create this piece of art, I thought about a place. The place I thought about was the beach and how the beach makes me feel. When I am at the beach, I feel as though all my worries are taken away which is what I attempted to demonstrate through my choice of colors and shapes.

My visit to the Ringling Museum of Art was eye-opening to say the least. I went on October 7th, 2023 with my sister, Violet and two other friends, Cydnee and Jaylan. This was a first-time experience for everyone and we all shared similar reactions. I have never found so much interest and amazement in art until I got to the museum and was able to see this genuine talent in person. Throughout my exploration at the Ringling Museum I was able to view a wide selection of art. In this venture, I viewed the most beautiful artwork I had ever seen, observed interesting non- European/North American art, being alarmed by some disturbing works, exploring a breath taking exhibition, and finding art that I can actually say I connect with. One of the pieces I found most interesting was called “Lovers’ Pilgrimage” made by Pierre Goudreaux in 1725. It is oil on canvas demonstrating lovers having shells attached to their costumes, indicating they are pilgrims bound for the island of Cythera, the site of the temple of Venus, the goddess of love in ancient myth. Though, people did not genuinely seek out Venus or her temple. Instead, it was a metaphor for the emotions and physical desires that will come out of love. Goudreaux is known for his love of mythology which explains why he created this painting about two lovers going to the mythological temple of Venus. This painting differs from others because of the genuine emotion and lust demonstrated by the lovers. Goudreaux was able to use his Rococo style and create a piece of art that is characterized by it’s ornate and decorative qualities. He uses light, pastel colors and small brush strokes to capture great detail and sensitivity. His use of light and shadow in this painting gave a sense of depth and dimension. Majority of the artwork I saw was Spanish or Baroque style. The pink courtyard is dynamic and beautiful, surrounding each building were tall white arches and inside was the house of over 28,000 pieces of artwork. This building was designed in a Renaissance style by John H. Philips. The museum started as a private art gallery which was later opened to the public in 1931. At the center of the courtyard is a huge replica of Michelangelo’s Statue of David made of bronze which is now a symbol of Sarasota, Florida. The museum is filled with art pieces that John Ringling obtained throughout the late 1920s. I definitely enjoyed this trip to the museum and I felt it was dire in understanding the time periods in which we are studying. Seeing the art in person has an everlasting impact, one that seeing something online cannot have. In person, you are able to read and make connections with other pieces of artwork while diving into that time period to really grasp the artists’ true intentions. It was not what I expected since I imagined a quiet, boring, fragile environment. Instead, I was greeted with pink walls and welcoming smiles. There is nothing that could have made my visit go smoother.

Journaling-
Unity and variety: Unity creates a sense of harmony and wholeness by using similar things and placing them together while variety adds interest by using different and contrasting elements within the composition. An everyday example of this is placing objects/things together in groups.
Example:
2. Writing and looking-
Gerhard Richter, Abstract painting, 1984 Page 1 Chapter 7
Richter uses a homemade 'squeegee' to create his trademark gestural blur by dragging paint along the surface of the canvas and concealing/ distorting what is underneath.
3. Connecting art to your world: Color has affected me in just about every way in everyday life. Color can make me feel warm and happy, cold and unmotivated, it can influence my memory and cause me to do things. For example, colors closer to the red spectrum evoke feelings like warmth and comfort. However, these hues can also cause feelings such as anger and pain depending on the intensity of the color. If I had to pick a "color scheme" for my life it would be the colors brown and pink. Pink evokes a happy, motivated, and positive side of myself. While brown evokes harshness and brutality. I believe these two colors would prove to be the perfect balance.

Photo Design Group Three
GROUP THREE: Photography
Portraiture:
This portrait was taken by Brooke Cagle. I believe Cagle took this photo of her younger sister, Joseline Cagle to capture pure bliss and happiness. When I came across this photo, it filled me with happiness as well. This photo was taken to spread joy and positivity.
2. Landscape
This image was taken by Jaime Reimer. Reimer took this photo of beautiful Moraine Lake located in Canada. I believe he took this to capture the breath takingness of his view.
3. Still Life
This image was taken by Olga Mironova intended to capture "cozy in a picture." It is a photo of a mug filled with what seems to be coffee or hot chocolate, with a blanket wrapped around it. I believe that this photo embodies coziness and warmth, and almost makes one feel as if they were at home.

This collage represents me by demonstrating key moments/ parts of my life. For example, as previously mentioned, I love going to the beach and spending time with my family. I have a kitten who is the best fury friend, and it is me and my friends tradition to get cookies every week.

2. A work of art from my life that I see everyday are these photos from New York City. These photos are significant to me because I wish to move to the city one day. I think these photos capture the breath takingness of this man-made city and the power/ability humans have. The use of this image is to show the beauty of these man-mad structures and the importance of the city since it is the home of so many. I do think the photo is beautiful, I fell in love with New York when I first visited due to the fast pace atmosphere and active environment.

Hi everyone! My name is Jasmine and this is my second year here at SCF. Though, I spent my first year as a dual enrollment student.
Damien Hirst 1992 The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living. Tiger shark, glass, steel, 5% formaldehyde solution; 213 cm × 518 cm (213 in × 213 in)
- My first reaction to this piece is fear and panic.
1. Artist Damien Hirst hired an Australian fisherman to catch him a real tiger shark.
2. Hirst decided to use a real shark to make it more frightening and real.
3. When the original specimen began to decompose, it was replaced with a new specimen in 2006.
4. Hirst acknowledged that there was a logical question as to whether replacing the shark meant that the result could still be considered the same artwork. He explained that although it is not the original piece, it is still his original intention.
5. Hirst has made other works which also feature a preserved shark in formaldehyde in a vitrine such as The Immortal (a great white shark, 2005).
My first reaction to this piece was frightened and also panicked. It is extremely nerve wracking to think that I have swam in the home of these beautiful, yet powerful creatures. After careful research, I think I am even more afraid of the shark and intrigued by the artist that created this. The original shark used for this piece was captured in 1992, however, it was replaced in 2006 after the original decayed. After researching, I find the art to be a bit brutal, but necessary. To truly evoke human fear, or any human emotion, you need something real.
