i think that Damian should be the only person in the family who can make Jason laugh. Jason thinks Damian is the funniest motherfucker in the family and absolutely nobody understands this until they accidentally listen in on the two casually chatting during patrol through the coms and realise that Damian is literally a supremely sarcastic thirteen year old with no chill whatsoever who has insane opinions on EVERYTHING, and the only reason they haven’t noticed before is because since coming to Gotham Damian’s been trying to establish himself as a Serious and Mature heir and so has been shutting his fucking mouth. Jason on the other hand? who was there in the league when there was a standoff between Ra’s and Damian about how Damian was slacking during training that ended when Ra’s said ‘if you cannot prove yourself as worthy of dedication to our cause then maybe other routes should be considered’ and the next day they couldn’t find Damian until Ra’s got a video call from him outside the Wayne Manor and he just said ‘dedication truly is an art form, grandfather’ and then he hung up and turned off his phone and they couldn’t contact him for months until Jason finally stopped laughing about it and went to Gotham to go check up on him? that Jason? Jason’s been fully aware that Damian’s one amusing tragedy from becoming a stand up comedian as a day job for years.

we have to remember that dicks first experience with being a big brother was with jason. while he was an angsty barely-adult who was in the height of his rebellious phase with bruce and who probably never thought about having younger siblings before. just as dick was jason’s first experience with having a sibling, jason was the same for dick. they were also the only two robins to work with bruce before jason’s death, meaning before bruce had to deal with failing to save his own child from a brutal murder at the hands of the joker; an experience that 100% changed his way of handling kids and probably the whole batfamily dynamic in general. jason and dick are the only batkids to remember the lighter era of batman and robin, as well as being each other’s firsts for having sibling dynamics introduced into their lives.

their relationship is so fucking special to me because it can easily be so angsty- dick watching the mantle he created as a way to connect with his dead parents being passed onto some new ‘brother’ just because he’d decided his and bruce’s partnership wasn’t what he wanted anymore. being forced into the role of older sibling without any kind of warning whatsoever and probably not being overly supportive of the kid in response. then that kid dies, and he never gets the chance to be better for them. even after the kid comes back, everything is so fucking DIFFERENT now. new siblings, new issues, new emotions, and a shit ton of trauma never having been looked at or dealt with. the heartache that dick might feel every time he sees the resurrected jason todd, mourning the era that was left behind and wishing he’d appreciated it while it was there. and on jason’s side of it all, being brought into this new world of money and magic with no previous experience whatsoever. being absolutely in love with the robin mantle, and yet his predecessor won’t even give him the time of day, too busy screaming at bruce and storming off to another city to get away from it all. having such a strained relationship with his first ever sibling and genuinely not having any way to make it better because none of their situation is jason’s fault. and then dying. coming back. and not only does he have to deal with the fact that in his absence the family expanded so widely and things within the bat world have become so much more fucking complicated- on top of all that, he has to watch as dick becomes the model big brother to all the kids that came after him. hanging out, giving advice, being there for them in every way that he WASN’T for jason. and jason has to deal with the fact that he probably just wasn’t worth while as a younger sibling to dick back then. not like these new ones. and even if they could reconnect now, heal and get better and actually try to be the brothers they weren’t before; jason ruined it by coming out of the grave guns first and making everything so much fucking worse. he took a fractured relationship and smashed it on the floor because he was blinded with rage towards bruce- the same fucking rage that dick had held back then, that had probably led to the fracturing in the first place.

BUT ON THE OTHER HAND. their bond could be so fucking SPECIAL. they were the only two batkids to live with pre-ethiopia bruce as their guardian- as their dad. they probably share so many little inside jokes- gimmicks that they used to share with bruce that died with jason because after losing his son bruce couldn’t stand the thought of continuing those traditions with another child. jason was the brother dick had before he started feeling like he had to step in and help parent the kids rather than just be one of the kids himself. the others probably have a mentor-mentee bond with him, or perhaps even a child-parent bond, but jason was truly just his fucking brother. and for jason, dick was the only sibling that knew him before he died. was put in the pit. came back to gotham with a duffle bag and the intent to kill. before he was a threat. to him, dick might be the only window back to that time where he was genuinely just a robin rather than an incredibly fucked up crime lord with grey morals and anger issues forced into his veins. they probably share random little memories from before ethiopia- the few times where they got along and jason visited him in bludhaven to moan about bruce driving him crazy. making eye contact with each other during debriefs when bruce says something that they used to make fun of him for way back when. jason and dick share such a niche part of their lives with each other, and it cant be replicated or replaced in any other batsibling. their bond is so complicated and beautiful and I NEED MORE PEOPLE TO EXPLORE IT’S POTENTIAL BECAUSE I’M GOING INSANE

I fell down a YouTube rabbit hole and watched some videos about people who pretended to be Anastasia and it got me thinking.... Idk if this has been written before, but!

Batfam AU where Jason legally comes back from the dead but literally the whole world thinks he is a con artist pretending to be Bruce Wayne's dead son for money. Lots of reporters have tried to disprove his claim but no evidence will convince Bruce and the media thinks Bruce is too deep in his mourning/ too stupid to realize the truth. I mean come on, his eyes are green, a completely different color from the real Jason!

Jason is having the time of his life. This is the greatest prank of all time. He absolutely leans into it because it is a good cover but also because it is hilarious.

the batfam clocked that something might up regarding Jason’s death because when Damian came to Gotham he spoke like a victorian school boy 98% of the time UNLESS he was in a passionate debate/argument with somebody, at which point he would for some baffling reason unknowingly slip into a thick Crime Alley accent complete with slang terms and insults/sayings that the family have only ever heard spewed from Jason’s mouth. it blindsides them every fucking time and Damian doesn’t even realise he does it, just subconsciously picking up traits from his big brother back at nanda parbat without noticing.

Tim: Oh yeah, Bruce was totally gonna kill Joker. But he did this while thing where right after you died he became the ambassador of Iran or something, so B killing him would've made it an international incident, so Clark stopped him.

Frustrates me when people take everything Dick says at face value. Like I love Dick, he's my fave, it's not meant as character hate when I point out that he's manipulative enough to give Bruce a solid run for his money, or that sometimes he reads into things too much and makes flawed assumptions, or doesn't give people the room to speak. Every good character has flaws.
