I recently started playing Fields of Mistria and Im already obsessed.

After getting to 6 hearts with March I can’t help but think….

March seems like the type who gets upset when you stop pursuing him. At first he thought he hated that you moved here. You took away the attention he deserved. He hated when you stopped by to talk to him, he made a point to say something condescending to you. March would never show how impressed he was when you first gave him a perfect piece of copper.

Soon enough, he began to tolerate your presence but right when be starts to actually like you (not that you knew how he was feeling) you decided to distance yourself. It’s getting tiring after a while. Constantly being belittled and getting backhanded compliments whenever you were doing something you thought was nice so you began pursuing Eiland. Eiland actually appreciates the efforts you put into your relationship. You can see the excitement in his eyes when you approach him with an artifact you found or a freshly baked pumpkin pie you spent so long trying to perfect. Slowly, you stopped going to the forge and went to the museum instead.

Of course March noticed. He notices everything. He notices how Eiland looks at you as you enter the room, how he smiles at you as you run by doing god knows what. March notices how you smile a litter brighter when Eiland compliments something you baked. How your eyes no longer immediately go to him when you walk into the Inn Friday nights. You automatically look at Eiland.

And he hates it. He hates not having your attention anymore. He hates watching you choose someone else over him. What he hates the most is that he’s starting to second guess himself.

Soon, you’ll realize that he’s a better option than Eiland. He’ll remind you why you liked him first.

I kinda wanna go over March's story a bit because even though there's not that much about it I still find it really sad and interesting and it really tells us a lot about why he's the way he is (And I also see like NO ONE talking about it) Spoilers under the cut

The whole thing basically has to do with the Shooting Star Festival and the interactions that occur during and after it. Basically, the first thing your player can ask March is if he went to watch the stars with his family or Olric, after doing so March looks VISIBLY SAD about it and asks to talk about something else almost immediately. after the shooting star festival, if you talk to Josephine, you get the chance to ask her if there's something up with March or if theres something about his family you don't know, and she tells us that March and Olric lost their parents at a young age(I'm going to assume they were around 5 or older maybe?), and that he's been through a lot. So in hindsight, March and Olric were orphans as kids and likely had lived in an orphanage at one point. Speaking of orphanages, once you unlock Crown Requests, one of the ones you get requires you to ship out tables and chairs for an orphanage, and afterwards, March comments on it, saying "Nice work."

The fact he's blushing and seems embarrassed as he says it either means he's just flustered that he's complimenting you (for once) or because he's HAPPY about the fact that you helped provide something to other kids who are in situations that are just like his and Olric's.

My assumption or sort of take from all of this is March puts on his grumpy, rude exterior as a self-defense sort of mechanism because he's worried about getting attached to someone, and then risk losing or having them die like his parents did and having to endure that trauma or survivors guilt kinda thing again. (I have some hopes that his 8 and 10 heart events will tell us more about his family and what happened and stuff like that PLEASE I NEED TO KNOW MORE)
