Writing a Ted Lasso fic and Jamie and Roy's relationship is actually so interesting to write I'm having the time of my fucking life.

Jamie aspired to be like Roy from a young age, not Roy looks back in Jamie's youth with jealousy and bitterness. Roy saw all of the worst qualities of himself in Jamie, and helped coach them out of him, first mentally, then physically. They have opposite demeanors but both have a fucked up home life in different ways, Roy's parents were neglectful sending him away at a young age, Jamie's dad was actively abusive. Both valued their child's athletic performance over everything else. They both found love, and heartbreak with the same girl, but Roy grew alongside her and Jamie needed to step away in order to grow up. Then, when she started to grow without either of them, they both simultaneously learned to let go. Jamie started off wanting a positive relationship with Roy, then was shot down, and immediately sprang up again. Roy had a steady increase in interest but still actively pushes that part of himself down. Like two ships passing in the night, their live overlapped in so many visible and invisible ways.
