Social media can have adverse effects on innocent people. It is very sad that many do not consider the impact their words can have on others.

The Reality of Social Media
I believe that one of the most important tools we have in this age is the internet for spreading important information about global events, and organizing large groups of people around the country and around the world. It is unfortunate that owners of these platforms have begun to organize themselves around silencing voices trying to bring awareness to these important topics. Because of this reality it is important that those of us who care about bringing attention to these issues band together to continue raising awareness in the middle of the silencing attempts, and prioritizing the voices of affected minorities over our own or those we think we want to trust if those minorities tell us that it is not helpful. While there is not much we as users can do to change the way the actual websites function, we can overwhelmingly band together to change the majority opinion on a specific topic so we can change the behavior surrounding it. They cannot stop all of us!

The “For You” tab is a staple across most social media platforms. Although websites like Instagram only have it in the form of a Discover page, many platforms like Twitter will give you the option to peruse through posts that they deem will be interesting to you. This video explains the basics of how these decisions are made.

Elon's time at Twitter (I refuse to call it X) so far has been rife with crap. Hence the sewer water.

"Black Twitter is, in part, a result of the historic exclusion of Black voices from the mainstream news media, she argues. And while Musk’s erosion of the platform has fragmented the community and driven some users away, the impacts of Black Twitter on journalism — from holding the media accountable to showing journalists ways to center social and racial justice in news stories — are long-lasting." - Hanaa' Tameez "NiemanLab"
