  Watching her captain was a fascinating sight that the lieutenant could not help but be interested by. He attempted to mark the tree, but the small line of white that appeared was so faint and similar to other marks on other dresses due to the natural wear of time that she supposed they would have little way of knowing if they did loop back to this tree again. Aella followed him as he moved, confidence seeming to always be part of his footfalls, even in fear.

  Statistically, she thought, it is more than probable that we will not end up walking in an exact straight line. The environment will change our course, and could send us sprawling back in this very location. But of course, she did not say that, either. She had learned that humans did not much appreciate realism.

  However, there was one truth she allowed at her captain’s further words. “The first officer is not nearby, captain.” For even in the sprawling woods, she knew if Commander Spock were nearby, she’d be able to sense him.

jim stopped once more and looked over at her, brows furrowed. “we can’t be that far, can we?” his blue gaze looked out and the sea of trees that littered the landscaqpe along with bushes and other shrubbery.  

he cleared his throat after a minute before taking steps forward, cautiously stepping over branches that covered the ground. he was in search of words to say to the lieutenant, but nothing came to him so he continued to walk a bit in silence as he checked his communicator, still with no luck of a signal or a response to any of his previous call-outs.

sticking his communicator back in his jacket pocket, kirk let out a heavy sigh. “can you feel anyone else but us two?” he glanced back at aella.

 The lieutenant’s first thought, as she stopped next to the captain, was, Of course you have seen that same tree before. We are in a forest, sir. But such a thought was one she would never voice. Black eyes moved around them, accepting what he had said – it did look very familiar, and it almost seemed as if they had been wandering in a giant hoop.

  Emotionless and empty, as if unaware of the dangers of being lost on this planet, Aella’s gaze moved back to the captain. “I would say that is an accurate observation, captain.” 

jim nodded slowly as he gazed at the tree for a moment, his eyes looking the tree up and down. he took a few steps toward it, bent down and picked up a rock. “i’m going to mark it.” the captain dragged the rock down the tree, leaving a faint mark on it as he dropped it and stepped back to look at his handy work. 

“that’s not going to work.” kirk frowned lightly. “we need to walk straight forward. there is absolutely no possibilty of coming across this tree again.” he turned, facing west and started back up, gesturing for aella to follow him. “we need to find spock.”

"Did you have a nightmare?"

"I'm scared. Can I sleep with you?"

"You're scared? You can come sleep with me, I guess."

"I have to sleep closer to the door."

"I can't sleep this close to the door."

"Stop getting up so early. You always wake me up."

"Stop staying up so late. I can never fall asleep."
