idk if this is just a LATAM thing but I’m getting culture shock from US fandom takes… like, here the age of consent is 13 (🤢) but no one actually sees a 13 y/o with someone 4 years older and thinks it’s normal. Jeremy being unable to defend himself physically and Jean launching his biggest fears one handed off the porch. Thinking about their positions on the court being direct opposites. The way Jean had ‘only a second to look for Jeremy before he passed the ball’ and Jeremy catching it with ease. Thinking about the way they’ll only get more in sync over time. Jeremy stopping in the middle of the road, Jean pulling him back to safety; Jeremy tugging Jean’s pinky in silent request for him to stop hurting himself. Thinking about the way their stories are paralleled, the way Jeremy helped Jean get back on his feet and soon Jean will help Jeremy get back on his. I find Kevjean’s dynamic fascinating, but when Kevjean fans say Kevin is the only one who can truly understand Jean because of their shared trauma in the Nest, it feels like such a surface-level take. Kevin and Jean had experiences so different that in the end, Jean’s resulting traumas have far more in common with Jeremy’s than Kevin’s. Kevin was venerated, protected (to a degree), and held up as a golden boy of the Ravens alongside Riko. Meanwhile Jean’s time in the nest was largely defined by being:

A) Constantly scapegoated and used as the punching bag

B) Slutshamed

C) Ridiculed and abused for being queer

And honestly Jeremy understands all three of those experiences far better than Kevin ever could. On top of that, Jeremy and Jean also share what is arguably their greatest pain: the loss of a younger sibling they were meant to protect. At the end of the story I’m afraid that while Jean is absolutely the person who understands Kevin best… the same can’t really be said the other way around.

And that is part of why kevjean is so yummy, the unreciprocation: Jean’s past romantic feeling for Kevin on one hand and on the other Kevin’s search for camaderie in the mourning of the Nest and Riko
