If I had a dollar for every moment I sabotaged because of perfectionism *sigh* I'd have alot of dollars! ❇️ For many years I exhausted myself with trying to be who I was taught I should be. The stress and tension you carry in your body from trying personifying a lie becomes too much. ❇️ Then one day you crash. Images of who you tried to be burn. And you're left at the bottom of the unrealistic expectations you set for yourself. ❇️ This was my life. #truestory ❇️ Now...I don't aspire to be more than a better version of me. A purposeful me who's quirky, well intentioned and just enough to do what she sets out to do. ❇️ Did you catch that??? ❇️ E N O U G G ❇️ Not perfect. ENOUGH! ❇️ Every day I aspire to be enough. Earlier this year when I decided to accept a role clear across country...there were alot of unknowns. We had to sell our home. My husband had to potentially find a new job if he couldn't transfer. We needed to find a new place to live in a highly competitive rental market. Those were reasons enough to say "Nevermind!" But I didn't. I jumped. Our house sold in 28 days. We got that news the day I signed the lease for our new home. And hubby got a transfer AND a raise. Your wings always have a way of materializing... Once you take the leap and decide to fly! For the first half of my career I chased a paycheck. Taking paths that seemed to promise some level of financial security. My plan worked. Financial security was there. Fulfillment was not. Now that I'm in the second half of my career, I'm taking a different approach. Setting myself up for success by doing what I love. Passion comes easy these days. There is fulfillment in every day. On this first day of May, I am excited to remind you all that it's Mental Health Month. Mental Health Month is important to me because my family is touched personally. My sister. My child. Me. Chances are you or someone you know too! It's nothing to be ashamed of. It's part of life. We have to do better at normalizing it so people feel comfortable asking for and seeking the help they need. We wouldn't think to shame a cancer patient for seeking chemo and radiation as a means to treat their disease. So why shame someone with mental illness into not seeking treatment for their disease? Is it because you can see it? Is it because you don't understand it? Is it because you don't care? Educate yourself! Be part of the solution that makes it easier for the 43.8 million who manage mental illness...to live!!! I remember a time when I used to be so intimidated by who was in the room. As if I had no right to be there. I was an imposter. Or at least that's how I felt. So I studied everything about everyone else in the room so I could blend in and not make waves. After all, my skin already made me stand out. So I hid the rest of myself. And then one day I came to understand that I was doing myself and the world a disservice by hiding or blending in. I needed to claim my amazingness and use it to influence not disappear. And so I learned how to not only influence the energy in any room I walk into...I learned to stand out. ON PURPOSE!
