STAR WARS REBELS APPRECIATION WEEK Day 6: Free Choice

For this day’s entry, I’ve decided to include some stuff about my personal Star Wars AU, one that combines elements of the current Disney canon, the classic Legends EU, and various other properties such as Visions and the LEGO series’.  It’s only appropriate that I bring this up seeing as Rebels was my primary impetus for creating this AU in the first place.

When Rebels first came out in 2014, the Disney buyout and deletion of the EU was still very fresh on a lot of people’s minds.  Fan opinions were clashing all over the place, with some quick to dismiss Disney’s stories as inferior replacements, Rebels in particular getting a lot of heat due to the sudden cancellation of TCW.  However, as I sat down and started watching the show, I saw that the fears a lot of people had were really unfounded.  While the current canon has had a few noticeable blunders, the majority of new Star Wars content, to me at least, has been very very good.  Rebels in particular was showing to be a perfect counter to people who doubted the ability of Disney to produce good Star Wars.  Here we have a story that does so much right and has become so beloved by so many people in spite of fans’ concerns at the time.  Not only did I love Rebels and was eager to see how the new EU would play out, especially with the sequels on the way, but I found that I wanted these characters and these stories to exist alongside the stories I had already loved from both Legends and the films themselves.  Thus, when people ask whether I prefer one EU to the other, all I can say is…

As Rebels was what convinced me that appreciation of both canons was perfectly possible, Rebels became a catalyst for my AU.  Much of the details of my AU are essentially “what if this character was at this event”.  Here, I have presented the Ghost crew, characters I have grown to cherish for the past ten years, as they are at various points in my mixed up galaxy far, far away.

So, I ended up not fulfilling a day of Sabezra Week this year (I ened up drawing blank after blank on "Spooky" and none of the alt prompts were stirring up my creative juices), so as consulation, I offer this! An updated version of Ezra and Sabine's wedding in my Star Wars AU! This time with the full wedding party, some refurbished designs/outfits, and a handful of the special guests.

Just a few Satine year on the run outfits

the left is supposed to be like pre-tyotr, studying diplomacy on Coruscant wearing the usual Mandalorian armor-inspired geometric clothing, ka’rta beskar included

then the other three are at different points during tyotr, in my headcanon she can’t get to her armor easily since it is on Kalevala so I wanted to show a slow accumulation of different pieces of her armor as she meets allies and family/clan members who are willing to give her pieces of armor

then in the last one she finally has her full armor assembled, i like to think parts of her armor is from her father’s beskar

the central V shape on her breastplate is reminiscent of the Kryze symbol, as is her helmet (with more inspiration from the newer Kryze symbol we got in Mando s3)

colors are of course reminiscent of her tcw outfits although there is also some beskar color symbolism from older canon and fanon

i.e. blue=reliability, gold=vengeance (also both seem to be Kryze colors), purple=luck, and erin=lust for peace

(also ignore the fact that none of these faces resemble each other, i lost momentum making these a while ago and just wanted to get them done lol enjoy)
