I love this in real life. The best version I've seen in a show or movie is in The Phantom Menace.
does anyone else think that its crazy (remembers i’m in discourse time-out this week) how the wind blowing thru the grass is so common yet so beautiful. one of many marvelous experiences in this wonderful life

when Qui-Gon publicly dropped Obi-Wan like a hot potato in favor of throwing his full weight into his bid to train Anakin, recently-Knighted Quinlan Vos decided that he had the opportunity to be the funniest motherfucker imaginable (and earn both his friend's eternal debt and ire in one move):
he claimed Obi-Wan Kenobi as his first Padawan
Obi-Wan, while definitely pissed with his friend's 'parenting,' quickly gets behind the idea of using this to spite Qui-Gon as much as possible
the Vos-Kenobi pair immediately set out to break every single one of Jinn's records as pettily as possible, and even managed to earn Quinlan the title of 'youngest Master' when Obi-Wan was Knighted only a few months later when the Council realized what was going on and tried to cut them off by just Knighting Kenobi already

sometimes, i feel like this is why i relate so heavily with his character. i found peace and comfort in the person he evolved to be because he was so real to me, and has been from the very start.
i adore him with my whole soul, and he will always be my favorite character honestly.
I think clone wars dark side anakin is my favorite dark side anakin. because yeah, in the movies, you can tell he's gonna fall. maybe not in the phantom menace, but in attack of the clones and revenge of the sith, it's so obvious! everything about him just oozes both light and dark, the dark steadily winning. but clone wars anakin? clone wars anakin? oh, he's a sun. he's blindingly bright and he's happy. we can go full episodes without a trace of the dark side showing up on his face or in his actions, which makes when he does go dark even more jarring. when he snaps and attacks and the imperial march plays faintly in the background, when not even ten minutes earlier in the episode he was joking around with ahsoka. that is peak dark side anakin to me, because that is what i imagine anakin truly was. happy and fun and then snapping, terrifying. it's why no one believed it when he fell. why obi-wan and padme and ahsoka didn't see it coming.

Imagine you’re some pod racing enthusiast watching the Boonta Eve Classic and some literal child enters with the shittiest scrap pod you’ve ever seen. He built it himself. He then proceeds to absolutely demolish every other professional racer. The kid never enters a race again but his legacy lives on in the hearts of the pod racing community.
About 10 years later, you tune into a news stream to catch some news about the Clone War. The announcer is talking about a particularly pivotal battle, saying something about “Jedi General Anakin Skywalker”
YOU MEAN THAT KID FROM THE BOONTA EVE CLASSIC???

Obi-Wan and Anakin for @ladysarai! And then nothing bad ever happened...
[Image Description: Digital artwork of a young Obi-Wan Kenobi and child Anakin. Anakin is in padawan robes, while Obi-Wan's hair has started to grow out and he has his beard. Obi-Wan is kneeling with his arms around Anakin, who has just run forward to fling his arms around Obi-Wan's neck in a hug. /end ID]

Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. I sense much fear in you.

The tragedy of Obi-Wan in The Phantom Menace is how unnecessary he feels - to both Qui-Gon & Anakin.
Qui-Gon got a new padawan while Anakin needed Qui-Gon as his mentor. Obi-Wan failed Anakin in the long run despite trying his best. Obi-Wan probably thinks Qui-Gon would have succeeded with Anakin after he loses everyone.
If Qui-Gon had lived, what would have happened to Obi-Wan? He feels unnecessary to his family, and it breaks my heart. They grow close only because Anakin needs him now that the master he actually wanted is gone.
But the tragedy of Obi-Wan and Anakin is that in a better universe, where Anakin has the master he needs, Obi-Wan wouldn't be Anakin's beloved master. If everything went well, they would never have grown to love each other so much.
If Anakin hadn't loved so much, maybe their would be no tragedy. But of course, that itself would be its own tragedy.
